Живот и дело српских научника
Lives and work of the Serbian scientists
Апстракт
The implementation of the new Public Procurement Law, as well as the
lack of financial resources, have led to slight delays in the preparation of the
14th volume of the edition “Life and Work of Serbian Scientists” for printing.
Nevertheless, it has finally seen the light of day.
The book contains biographies of 13 new scientists. As in previous volumes,
most of them are physicians. There are five of them (Adolf Hempt, Dimitrije
Jovčić, Stanislav Bukurov, Miroslav Radovanović and Berislav Berić). In
addition, there are three engineers (Mirko Roš, Miroslav Nenadović and Branko
Popović), two chemists (Miloš Mladenović and Milutin Stefanović), one biologist
(Dušan Kanazir), one mathematician (Miodrag Tomić) and one physicochemist
(Slobodan Ribnikar).
I would like to highlight that this time the Board, as in some previous cases,
found itself in a situation to address many potential donors seeking financial
assistance – mainly institutions where the scientists worked and contri...buted
with their own achievements to the enhancement of these institutions’ scientific
prestige. I would like to use this opportunity to extend my hearted gratitude to
the donors that responded to our appeal and thus helped the printing of this
volume, as follows: Faculty for Physical Chemistry – University of Belgrade,
Faculty of Biology – University of Belgrade, Pasteur Institute Novi Sad and
Mathematical Institute of the Serbian Academy of Arts and Sciences. It is interesting
that the aforementioned appeal got good response at the very Academy.
Therefore, some academicians who manage projects waived part of available
funding so as to make printing of this book possible. In addition, some members
of the Academy supported printing of this book with their own funding!
Furthermore, once again it’s my pleasant duty to extend gratitude to all
members of the Board for the efforts invested in the selection of competent authors
and reviewers, as well as for a number of useful comments and suggestions
that they shared with me so as to maintain the quality of previous volumes. I’d
like to give a special thanks to the authors of the articles, reviewers, SASA staff
as well as the staff of the publishing house Službeni glasnik.
