Using the theoretical prerequisites of cognitive linguistics (or, more preci
sely, cognitive semantics), the author sets out to describe the meanings of the
Serbian verbal prefix raz- and to establish the semantic network formed by them.
The most general schema (visible in the gesture which often accompanies the
usage of the verb prefixed with raz-) instantiates into central meanings 1, 2 and
3 (the first one being the most prototypical), which imply centrifugal movement,
and meaning 4, which implies descending. The semantic network of the prefix
raz- contains also six spatial meanings linked to meanings 1, 2 and 3, four of
them are not subsumable under the most general schema (they imply neither cen
trifugal movement nor descending). The meaning of the prefix raz- is, therefore,
a good example of a prototype category.
The abstract meanings of the prefix raz- are results of metaphoric exten
sions from the spatial meanings, the main metaphors being intensity is size, меntal ...state / снаrастеr is physical state, mental space is
physical space, understanding is seeing, less worthy is lower, stiffness is being fixed in a bearing, thinking is observing, a property is an овјест аттаснеd то iтs owner.
Описују се (под)значења глаголског префикса раз- и утврђује (и графички
представља) значењска мрежа коју она сачињавају.
