The paper deals with two names, both already suspected of having a Pre
Slavic origin: Osmin and Lovćen. Late Mitar Pešikan inclined to derive the former
from Indo-European basis “akmon- "stone”, while the latter was supposed by Petar
Skok to go back to Old-Dalmatian word lau rock”. Here an attempt is made to
clarify their morphologic structures and phonetic history. Also the possibility is
considered to relate the two oronyms, in spite of geographic difficulties, with two
ancient place-names of the region, Asamon and Leusinum (conjecturaly: “Leucinum).
