β-NaYF4:Yb,Tm@TiO2-Acac core-shell structure for efficient photocatalysis

AB  - Novel hybrid core shell structure with extensive absorption was synthesized by a two-step wet chemical route. Up-converting β-NaYF4:Yb,Tm core was obtained through EDTA assisted hydrothermal process, while the shell of anatase TiO2-Acetylacetonate charge transfer complex (TiO2-Acac) was formed over these via sol-gel method. Tetracycline was used to investigate photocatalytic efficiency of obtained structure under irradiation of reduced power Vis and NIR spectra. Owing to the fact that 1D2→3F4 and 1G4→3H6 emission of Tm3+ matches well with the absorption edge of TiO2-Acac, radiation-reabsorption and FRET processes improve the overall generation of reactive oxygen species and degradation of tetracycline. Beside it, formation of tetracycline intermediates immediately after the addition of this novel hybrid core-shell structures, making them a promising material for water purification through the synergy of catalytic and photocatalytic processes.

AB  - Photocatalysisdata of β NaY0.78F4:Yb0.2Tm0.02were performed with irradiation source comprised DULUXD/E 26 W residential fluorescent lamp with an irradiance of 0.23 W cm..2 (400–700 nm) and NIR LED diode SMB1N-980D of 400 mW (RoithnerLaserTechnik, Wien, Austria).Thetetracycline degradation tests were performed under vigorous magnetic stirring, using200 mg L-1 of the core-shell material. Comparative photocatalytic tests were completed sing 25 mg L-1 of TiO2-Acac nanoparticles, since this amount corresponds to the theoretical mass of the 50 nm-thick TiO2-Acac shell. After ensuring the adsorption–desorption equilibrium in darkness (1 h) the lamps were turned on, and 5 mL aliquots of supernatant were acquired at designed time intervals. The supernatant was double-filtered, using a Merck Millipore filter (0.45 µm), and analyzed by a UV-Vis spectrophotometer (Agilent8453, Santa Clara, CA, USA), forCORE-SHELL Project, samples were synthesized  through EDTA assisted solvothermal processing, Et:H2O=2:1, FF=60 %, c=0.01 M, 200oC/2h; Re:NaF=1:14, Re:EDTA=1:1, and coated withTiO2-Acac.Data were collected on 11/11/22

AB  - The photo-oxidation of NOx gas (100 ppm), balanced with ultrahigh pure He (99.999%), was carried out using 0.1 g of photocatalysts, under 15 mL min−1 flow of NOx gas (91.8 ppm) balanced with ultrahigh pure He. Three T5 tubular fluorescent lamps (visible light, λ = 400–700 nm) of 8 W each, have been used, while the total irradiance of light source was 0.77 W cm−2. The photocatalytic activities were analyzed towards NOx degradation as a function of time, through the integration of area below the NOx conversion (%) vs. time curve. The gas was passed at 15 mL min−1 through a tubular photoreactor (int. diameter = 4 mm) made of UV-grade synthetic fused silica with an approximate thickness of 2 mm. NO photo-oxidation was monitored online using an Agilent gas chromatograph, equipped with a mass spectrometer (GC–MS), model 7890A5975C. The reactant gas flow was first passed through the catalyst bed in the dark for 30 min until NO adsorption was completed and equal NO concentrations at the inlet and outlet of the photoreactor were achieved. Thereafter, the powder in the photoreactor was irradiated evenly and the percentage of removed NO from the gas stream was calculated. The measurement was carried out for the purposes of the CORE-SHELL Project, where samples were synthesized through  EDTA assisted solvothermal processing, Et:H2O=2:1, FF=60 %, c=0.01 M, 200oC/2h; Re:NaF=1:14, Re:EDTA=1:1, and coated withTiO2-Acac.Data were collected on 22/11/22

AB  - XRPD data  of β NaY0.78F4:Yb0.2Tm0.02collected on D8 Advance X-ray diffractometer (Bruker, Karlsruhe, Germany), CuKα radiation at 0.02° (2θ) step, with an acquisition time of 1s per step, for CORE-SHELL Project, samples were synthesized through EDTA assisted solvothermal processing, Et:H2O=2:1, FF=60 %, c=0.01 M, 200°C/2h; Re:NaF=1:14, Re:EDTA=1:1, and coated withTiO2-Acac.Data were collected on 22/11/2021.
