AB - The Institute of Ethnography of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts has an extensive
folklore collection, containing mainly folk songs, but also other folklore literary genres from all around
the former Yugoslavia, which were collected immediately after World War 2. This archival material
provides an insight into one of the most dynamic transitional periods of Yugoslav history and can be
valuable for the future study and understanding of social phenomena, processes, and events by which it
was marked. The Institute of Ethnography SASA has recognized the significance of this collection and
has initiated efforts for its systematization and digitalization. The ongoing project The Creation of the
Digital Database of the Folklore Collection of IE SASA started in 2022 as a result of a joint effort of a
group of IE SASA personnel and the engineer Branislav Tomić. The Project is developed with the
financial support of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Serbia.
The paper aims to present the results achieved within the first project year, with a focus put on the
description and use of the database and its web application. There will be discussed the process of our
work and the challenges encountered, as well as the main directions in which we plan to improve both
the Database of the Folklore Collection of IE SASA and its web application.

Modern Folk Devils: Contemporary Constructions of Evil

AB - In anthropological, sociological and humanistic theories, the mechanism of the ‘scapegoat’ is a well known phenomenon, but one still worth exploring in many cultural contexts. Modern Folk Devils represents an important collection of analytic texts on the topic of moral panics, scapegoating, and internal and external ‘otherness’ threats constructed by different societies, cultures and communities. The chapters in this book seek to contribute to a deeper understanding of the role of cultural and political circumstances for a broader understanding of modern folk devil phenomena.

‘Devils Within’ (the first part of the book) deals with the construction of ideas about the ‘internal figure’, for example ‘hipsters’ as a consequence of class relations, politics and gentrification in London, where the media has played a key role in constructing the ideas that caused the moral panic. There is also the case of fear of alleged sorcery in Vanuatu, where moral panic did not originate with the help of mass media, but through the dreams, visions and gossip of residents of local communities in crisis. A case of moral panic in Georgia was focused on the hybridisation of traditional motives, such as goblins, represented as human-looking but destructive internal figures, in the modern context narratives (due to the social and political crisis). In the last chapter in this section, sugar is labelled a threat to the health and social functionality of Danish youth. Sugar, like most devils, is an entity with a tradition of presence in a community that recognises it as a social menace. These chapters contribute to a deeper understanding of the relationship between tradition and modernity, as well as the circumstances that create the image of local devils as a source of social crisis.

The second part of the book, ‘Devilry from Above’, examines the institutional and media construction of (political) demons as a threat from outside (beyond state borders) and above (in terms of class relations). Politics, media, sensationalism and fake news are recognised as catalysts that create and spread ‘community’ (or ‘nation’) ideas of threat, as part of moral panics and desirable forms of social discipline construction. For example, scapegoating was a part of Donald Trump's political strategy, but also that of his opposition – a moral panic constructed and emphasised through social networks by exploiting existing stereotypes about the ‘otherness’ of the LGBT community and feminism; at the same time, these groups are socially marginalised and portrayed as the main cause of the degradation of the ‘traditional family’ in the Czech Republic. The case study about ‘Gypsy child snatchers’ in Italy represents the appropriation of old stereotypes about Romani nomadic culture that were once seen as an obstacle to its inclusion. Today, the majority of Roma do not live a nomadic life, but still represent ‘otherness’ whose inclusion is seen as a threat to Italian society. These examples illustrate the role of media sensationalism, internet groups and political discourses as hubs for the hybridisation of old and new stereotypes and the creation of dominant images of (political) ‘reality’.

The third part of the book, ‘From the Devils’ Point of View’, deals with the conceptual basis of stereotypes, for instance regarding Roma identity in the Czech Republic, where ideas of ‘decency’ or ‘functionality’ are tailored to the standards of the majority as opposed to the marginalised, or migrants seeking asylum in England, who have been represented as ‘devils’ by the media. Lithuanians have been portrayed by the Danish media as the cause of an increase in particularly violent and inhumane criminal behaviour, thus creating not only a (false) image of this ethnic group, but also a climate in which society, motivated by distorted media images, treats Lithuanians as a pest. The case of a person in Sri Lanka who was labelled an adulteress and excommunicated (without evidence) raises questions about the symbolic roles of folk devils in society. This contribution emphasises an appreciation of historical and cultural circumstances, as well as an understanding of the relationships among actors involved in the construction of folk devils.

The authors of this book have dealt with phenomena not only typical of ‘rural’ or ‘traditional’ societies, but also of contemporary, urban and modern ones that, consciously or unconsciously, have constructed images of the internal or external enemy as the cause of social crisis. Several chapters in this book emphasise ideological, class or social position as the background of (political or media) instrumentalisation of devil motives as a threat to society (be it a group, nation or state). Other authors focus on factors of internal dynamics and relationships crucial for the construction of dominant ideas of ‘us’ in contrast to ‘outsiders’, or ‘norm’ versus ‘deviance’. All the chapters represent successful analyses of cases of imagined or real crises, mostly employing emic and in fewer cases etic perspectives. The ontological perspective, as the most methodologically challenging, has imposed itself as perhaps a decisive factor in multidimensional understanding of these phenomena. As someone who studies traditional, modern and hybrid forms of scapegoats, dangerous individuals and spaces, it seems helpful to me to observe the course of events from the perspective of (all) actors in the narratives that societies create as a platform to project or question (their) reality. Unfortunately, since I research vampires, witches and ghosts, the ‘undead’ are often unable to help me, but in cases involving living beings, it has been crucial to understand the social relations and dynamics behind mass hysteria.

Modern Folk Devils is an innovative and valuable set of analytical approaches, rooted in the ideas of Stanley Cohen and his book Folk Devils and Moral Panics (1972), but also the likes of Mary Douglas's Purity and Danger (1966), René Girard's The Scapegoat (1989) and other works whose theoretical approaches have contributed to a better understanding of concepts such as mass hysteria, moral panic, displacement, dangerous spaces and the scapegoating mechanism. This book represents a collection of modern analytical and theoretical works designed to broaden perspectives and achieve a deeper understanding of contemporary cases as reflections of a glocalised, hybrid and constantly changing world – one that still keeps fears of the unknown, embodied in old and new, modern folk devils, alive.

AB - U mnogim seoskim zajednicama u Srbiji, a posebno onim koje nastanjuje starije stanovništvo, tradicijski elementi poput magijskog promišljanja stvarnosti, okruženja, kauzalnih odnosa i sopstva i dalje opstaje. Magijsko promišljanje stvarnosti, zasnovano na tradicijskim, lokalno-kulturnim idejama o uzročno-posledičnim odnosima u kući, zajednici i prirodi, često predstavlja plato promišljanja prošlosti, sudbine, ličnosti i identiteta pripadnika sela.
AB - In many rural communities in Serbia, especially those inhabited by the elderly, traditional elements such as the magical reflection of reality, the environment, causal relationships and the self still persist. The magical reflection of reality, based on traditional, local-cultural ideas about cause-and-effect relationships in the house, community and nature, often represents a plateau of reflection on the past, fate, personality and identity of the village members. The death pin, a concept that represents an aspect of love-sexual magic, is a rare but interesting example of the cultural tradition of rural communities. The theme of the presentation is not the concept of love or sexual magic itself, but the construction and perception of the world, reality and the self through the mediation or appropriation of the magical motif of the dead man's needle. Emphasis is placed on the case of one of the "victims" who through this motif (re)constructs their past, identity and destiny. The death needle, as a traditional concept aimed at thwarting a man's sexual power, in the mentioned case acquires an atypical dimension of a tool for the reconstruction of the past (memory and remembrance) with the aim of rationalizing and overcoming traumatic life experiences. This presentation tries to point out the demonological and magical narratives as a specific optic of (autobiographical) interpretation of the past and the changes that modernity brings, but also the contemporary use of less frequently recorded ideas, which for the oldest members of the communities, in addition to the traditional ones, acquire new roles in the perception of the self, overcoming trauma, and finding meaning.

Znanje i moć: zduhaći i zmijari u postmodernom, hibridnom društvu

moć svojih predaka, a sami razvili znanja i ciljeve svojeg delovanja. U izlaganju
stečenim znanjem, performiraju u međusvetu prirode i kulture, odnosno života
i smrti.
načinu ovladavanja i performansu moći različiti.
Tri pomenuta pojedinca predstavljaju
hibridne identitetske i funkcionalne modele zasnovane na tradicijskim
idejama, odnosno ulogama oblikovanima širim i užim društvenim, kulturnim
i političkim promenama, presudnima u okolnosti promišljanja sopstva u
postmodernom svetu ruralnih zajednica.
AB - During many years of field research on the subject of demonology
traditions, I encountered the mentions of different motives or individuals for
who were believed or believed to possess special powers.
Through the knowledge of the community, but also in a wider context, those individuals are their own
subordinated power, that is, action to (specific) social needs. Yet,
mentions of ghosts were increasingly rare in the context of the fight with atmospheric demons
occurrence. Although we can connect the mentioned with the influence of modern, state
institutions and new technologies on the everyday life of rural communities in Serbia,
the idea of "power" or special individuals of the peasant tradition survives or adapts
new contexts. I have met a large number of kitesurfers, who are guided by feeling
or by communicating with nature, they find and "hunt" snakes. Catch Motives
snakes are not always the same, but the rule is not to injure them, but to move them
to areas that local communities consider desirable. It is interesting that part
zmijara represents the descendants of zduhač, i.e. that these individuals "inherited"
the power of their ancestors, and they themselves developed the knowledge and goals of their actions. In exposition
the case of three individuals whose identity, defined by inherited power and
with the acquired knowledge, they perform in the middle world of nature and culture, that is, life
and death. They are similar in heritage, identity and knowledge, but in terms of the source of knowledge,
the way of mastering and the performance of power are different. The analysis is directed towards
understanding the various factors that are the identities, roles and statuses of those individuals
defined in specific ways, always through the relationship to the community and the world, nature
and culture, but also tradition and modernity. The three mentioned individuals represent
hybrid identity and functional models based on traditional ones
ideas, that is, roles shaped by wider and narrower social and cultural ones
and political changes, crucial in the circumstances of self-reflection in
to the postmodern world of rural communities.

"rationalization" of past or present encounters with demons or the absence of demons in the past

as a consequence of changes in the (cultural) landscape of rural communities conditioned by glocalization, that is,
achievements of the postmodern world. In this way, the causes and forms of changes in the community as a work were discussed

AB - The concept of vampirism in the tradition of peasant culture is an inversion of social
norms by individuals or groups, which the community recognizes as responsible for
social problems and crises. “Vampire” as a social institution has a role in resolving
the crisis, but also manifests power of the collective and the desirable model of
worldview. However, the experience of field research imposes a perspective that does
not perceive the “vampire” as a rigid institution, but also an adaptable tool of social
or political communication. By analyzing two cases (performances) of “murder of
a political vampire” (Josip Broz Tito and Slobodan Milosevic), as a performance of
political communication, I try to point out the crucial importance of understanding
the context, position and motivation of actors in dialogue. The focus of the analysis
is on “vampires”, the signifier of the aberrant, who uses vampire symbolism as a
means of spreading political information but also achieving political goals.

The concept of vampirism in the tradition of peasant culture is an inversion of social
norms by individuals or groups, which the community recognizes as responsible for
social problems and crises.
The focus of the analysis
is on “vampires”, the signifier of the aberrant, who uses vampire symbolism as a
means of spreading political information but also achieving political goals.",

AB - The dissertation explores the form, content and status of representations of the vampire in folk, foremost in cultural, rural heritage today from an anthropological perspective. The concept of the “vampire”, as one of the symbols of social and cultural community reality, was not approached as passive and petrified, but instead as a concept greatly influenced by local, inner, as well as external and global factors. Comparisons of old and new ethnographic material pointed out changes in the form and content respectively, which posed the question which influences led to the changes, fragmentation or disappearance of the motives as elements of demonological tradition. Based on the presented material and analysis we have concluded that the motive functioned as a response to social problems and needs in the traditional context, or that in other words it represented a reflection of social and cultural reality. The concept of the “vampire” in this sense functions as a “floating signifier”, a motiv through which the community, group or individual speak of social problems, tensions or needs within a specific context. Although it representsa an aberration, that is to say an inversion of the social norm on a collective level, the “vampire” had various roles which reproduced the power of the community, but also embodied resistance and negotiation used to overcome social bounds. within the world of the village community. The motive‟s specificity was therefore its cohabitation with different layers of society which communicated with each other through its use. On the other hand, this motive was, as a symbol of the “world for itself”, of a state within the state, or a church outside the worldview of the Serbian Orthodox church, for centuries interpreted, as a kind of symbolic resistance to the centralization and modernization of the state, besides its local integrative role. Vampire related beliefs and practices had been criticized or punished by profane and sacral rule for centuries. However, historical periods during which Serbia was occupied, or the church marginalized attributed to the strengthening of traditional institutions such as the “vampire” which communities used to regulate the social order. Initiated by medieval prohibitions, it was continued after the liberation and consolidation of Serbia during the 19th century, through the application of cultural policies whose goal was the internal modernization of society, but also the external redefining of the national identity. Such an approach was based on the principle of the “significant other”. In the case of Serbia, the “significant others” were western societies, yet in the eyes of village communities it was the elites, who emphasized urban and modern culture at the expense of Balkan peasant heritage. The “vampire”, as a living element of village everyday life represented an u unwanted artifact of previous centuries at a state level, an image of the people‟s ignorance, of the country‟s backwardness, which only strengthened western balkanistic stereotyps of the inferiority of Balkan societies. The “vampire” as a symbol of balkanic “otherness”, whether as a motive of village folklore or western popular culture, becomes an element of cultural intimacy for the village and Serbia. From the middle of the 19th century, and especially the second half of the 20th century, Serbia adopts the usage of the motive which gains a new, modern, urban outfit. Losing the prefix of village culture, the demonic is replaced with the human, and reality with the fantastic. In the period following World War II, cultural policy, as was the case with the previous state, tends to replace traditional institutions with modern ones, as well a marginalizing heritage which did not conform with the concept of communist philosophy or socialist society. The urban, the educated and the modern become ideals, and the concept of the “vampire” as a form of “village autonomy” and cultural reality as opposed to the model of western fantasy, stays equally culturally intimate, simultaneously reflecting the oppositions between the urban and rural, modern and backwater, but also between the rational and irrational. Even after the breakdown of Yugoslavia and the retraditionalization of society, the “vampire” of popular culture represents a well known symbol of urban culture, while the “vampire” of folklore remains a traumatic heritage of the rural Balkan past. The form, contents and experience of this element of local heritage remains intimate within village communities in whose cultural reality it remains “living”. Based on field experiences, but also media analysis, the opposition public : private stands out especially on the example of the “vampire” as an element of village heritage, no matter whether it is revealed to the anthropologist as interlocutor, or through the use of motives as elements of touristic offering. The “city”, the “state”, “modern” or “rational” represent oppositions against which the “vampire” in public usage today represents the point of separation between two parts of society – the folk and the elite, or pseudo western culture, or the identity of the state (and nation) torn between a “Balkan past” and a “European (future of) Serbia”. Since one position in the eyes of the “significant other” was valorized, while the other was traumatized and marginalized, the domination of one motive over the other as a cultural political symbol can be asserted. Two motives, the westernized and the traditional, although havinga very similar logic of motive usage, remain opposite in their ontological position as symbols of two cultures, times and realities. The goal of this study was the understanding of the “nature” of the motive so as to understand its “immortality” in an everchanging world which changes the reality of the village, and the “vampire” as part of its imagination. The basic premise of globalizing factors as precondition to the social and political use of the motive turned out to be correct. The question of the “immortality” of the motive, on the other hand, showed to be more complex. “Immortality of the vampire” in village culture seems to be the consequence of historical, social and political factors, as well as the possibility of the motive to change and adapt to social needs, paradoxically functions as a constant of tradition and community “reality”. In Serbia, a country on the slow road of transition into European and modern society, numerous village communities have been marginalized. The village often figures as a cognitive and social center with which its member indentify on a vertical (generational) and horizontal (“communal”) level, with a special accent on the use of tradition as a factor of separation from the global, and identification with the local. The “vampire” as a kind of intimate tradition in these villages has an (today still) integrating social role, as an element of heritage around which the community members affirm their cultural reality and identity. It is the power of change and application, the adaptation of motives to the social context of use, but at the same time the essential permanence, that make "vampires" a "living" aspect of the heritage and cultural reality of many rural communities today.
Forma, sadrţaj i doţivljaj ovog elementa lokalne baštine ostaje intiman unutar seoskih zajednica u ĉijoj kulturnoj stvarnosti i dalje „ţivi“. Dva motiva, pozapadnjaĉeni i tradicijski i pored vrlo sliĉne logike upotrebe motiva, ostaju opozitni u svojoj ontološkoj poziciji kao simboli dve kulture, vremena i stvarnosti. Upravo moć promene i primene, prilagoĊavanja motiva društvenom kontekstu upotrebe, ali u isto vreme i suštinska postojanost, „vampira“ ĉine „ţivim“ aspektom baštine i kulturne stvarnosti brojnh seoskih zajednica danas.

Dva motiva, pozapadnjaĉeni i tradicijski i pored vrlo sliĉne logike upotrebe motiva, ostaju opozitni u svojoj ontološkoj poziciji kao simboli dve kulture, vremena i stvarnosti. Upravo moć promene i primene, prilagoĊavanja motiva društvenom kontekstu upotrebe, ali u isto vreme i suštinska postojanost, „vampira“ ĉine „ţivim“ aspektom baštine i kulturne stvarnosti brojnh seoskih zajednica danas.",

The material belongs to the corpus of folk culture and religiosity with a focus on demo-nological legends, stories, memories and experiences of the interlocutors. This material, that is, the statements of the interlocutors, serve as testimonies of the social changes of the village, and the nar-ratives about demons as the optics of observing the cultural changes in the tradition of the peasantry in this area. The basic idea is that we cannot understand the changes in the elements of tradition or the attitudes of the interlocutor towards heritage if we do not understand the complex internal and external factors of social and cultural changes. Through understanding glocalization phenomena, we can understand the relationship between old and modern traditions, but also the cultural reality in the center of which are the participators.

AB - Although on a global level, the images of the past in connection with the Second World War, and especially with the Holocaust, represent, in principle, a coherent narrative, especially when it comes to the relationship between the victim and the perpetrator crimes, local social, political and cultural contexts continue to question the past, creating or reinforcing contemporary national and ideological identities. This is particularly noticeable in the Balkans, and above all in the area of the former Yugoslavia. Discourse on causal relations in war, and especially towards the Holocaust or the Independent State of Croatia, decades after the war it was conditioned by political mythologies of the past, but also by cultural ones ideologies. Depending on the period of the dominance of the hierarchy and thus the hegemony of memory, i.e. the selection of social memory, spaces, rituals but also witnesses who transmit traumatic memories were marginalized or on the other hand, they are valorized and instrumentalized as political and social tools communication both locally and on a broader level. In this paper I point out to the gaps between global and local images of the Holocaust, as well as to the instrumentalization of places and witnesses - storytellers whose cultural role, and thus and social identity conditioned by the local social and political context

Sect-related violence is not exclusively one sided nor is it the cause of one side's actions, but is a consequence of social relations. On the examples of other countries and periods of the spread of paranoia from sects or Satanism, it was shown how much the media and pseudo-scientists can influence the increase of violence directed against sects and sects towards society, even though it does not primarily stem from the theology of a particular religious community. AB - The politics of specific selective social/national memories in contrast with globally accepted and promoted pictures of the past happenings is always a very interesting field for anthropological research. This paper also deals with another social phenomenon — the political usage of the dead bodies, or “political lives of the dead bodies” of the Holocaust victims buried on ex-Yugoslavian territories. We will try to show and understand the process of changing political and historical context and its influence on the way Yugoslavia and, later, its independent states used history and traumatic social memory presentation to recreate new views on these happenings and, therefore, new national identities. Using this kind of analysis we will show how the “victim” and “perpetrator” identities were reconstructed and used in different ways and to different purposes. These recreated identities are supposed to be very important factors in the Euro integration, but also a part of the revisionism threat and power struggle in the Balkans today.

AB - During last decades, especially in the post- „Cold War“ era, social remembrance became an important field of study, particularly for sociology and anthropology. The author researches the use of „image and works“ of Gavrilo Princip in the political narratives in the territories of Former Yugoslavia over the last hundred years. His analysis stresses the impact of the change of social and political context as key for (re)defining and use of symbolic motif of Gavrilo Princip. The author highlights the fact that not only the remembrance of Gavrilo Princip in the Balkans has changed over the last hundred years, but his deeds have also been defined differently in different epochs, territories and ideologies, depending on the changes of the social context. Furthermore, the author concludes that society changed Princip’s identity from liberator to terrorist, from victim to murderer, from freedom fighter to henchmen over the last century. More significantly, such defining of Princip’s identity did not merely fit in with the current dominant ideology- often it has been used in either positive or negative context as a reflection of wider pro- or anti- Serbian, pro- or anti- European/ Austrian, Great Serbian or Yugoslav propaganda.

AB - Već 70 godina traje mučan proces memorijalizacije bitke, stradanja i žrtve iz perioda Drugog svetskog rata u Beogradu. Posebno traumatična pokazala se memorijalizacija prostora nekadašnjih logora i stratišta. Ovaj tekst obrađuje sudbinu pet takvih mesta tj. logora: Banjica,
Staro sajmište, Topovske šupe, Milišićeva ciglana i stratište Jajinci.
i mesta instrumentalizovane istorije do nemesta.
AB - For 70 years, the painful process of memorializing the battle, suffering and victims from the period of the Second World War has been going on in Belgrade. Especially the memorialization of the area of the former camps proved to be traumatic killing grounds. This text deals with the fate of five such places, ie. camp: Banjica, The old fairground, Topovske šupe, Milišić's brick factory and Jajinci execution site. For decades, the attitude towards these physical spaces and buildings was directly conditioned by ideological, political and economic factors. The mentioned places went from memory to oblivion, from symbolic locations, and places of instrumentalized history to non-places. This text deals with exactly that processes and factors due to which these spaces lost or gained their symbolic and physical structure, and the identity consequences of these process. The goal of this paper is not only an analytical overview of the way in which
the discourse about the mentioned places in the area of Belgrade in the past changed, but also a critical review of the modern, current approach to the problem, and its consequences.

AB - We are witnesses of the worldwide phenomenon of the exploitation of not only
the character of "Count Dracula" but also the motif of vampirism in general,
both in popular literature and cinema, but also in the form of museums or tourist tours. Certain parts of the world are forerunners in the context of "vampire
tourism" because they are culturally and geographically linked to belief in
vampires or had local vampires who became world famous throughout history.
Aside from Romania which cashed in on its Dracula myth a long time ago,
Serbia has great potential to realize an especially attractive offer of vampire tourism. Namely, there is an almost thousand-year old tradition of belief in vampires in Serbia, and the western literary and later cinematic vampire (including
Stoker’s Dracula) came into being thanks to cases of vampirism noted in Serbia in the 18th century. This paper deals with the ways in which different interest groups approach the idea of commercializing both nationally popular and internationally famous vampires in Serbia. The aim of this paper is to give an analysis of the positive and negative attitudes toward the use of the motif of the "local vampire" which the residents and representatives of three villages
and one town displayed in the media. The analysis of these initiatives encompasses the dispute between Valjevo and Zarožje over the use of "Sava Savanović" as their own, and the attitudes of the villages of Kisiljevo and Medveđa
which have attempted to erase "local vampires" from the collective memory
and identity of the villages. In both cases – the positive and the negative attitudes towards the identity connection with "local vampires", I have attempted to determine the influence of the socio-economic context and migrations on the attitudes and initiatives supported by these locales.

AB - The so called „epidemics of vampirism“ which flooded Western Europe during 18th century was inspired
by the cases of a unproved vampirism which was investigated by an Austrian delegation in the Sebian
villages of Kisiljevo and Medvedja. The report issued by the austrian delegation had largely contributed
to a great popularity of vampirism for the whole sub-genre of western literature inspired by vampires.
The way in which the motive of vampirism was used in vampire literature, although based on folklore
and beliefs from the Balkans, quickly became the motive which was actually used to show western fear
of the marginalized, unknown, and dangerous eastern Europe, so called „Orient“. Although initialy the
motive of vampire in the west was metaphore for foreign threat, later western authors revealed
supressed relations in their own society through usage of this demon.
The work of western author Richard Matheson, the novelette titled „I Am a Legend“ published in 1954.
was example of a new approach to the use of a vampire motive. Matheson projected vampirism through
apocaliptic vison of parasitic virus contamination with symptoms resembling to vampirism wich attacked
already dehumanized society.
The goal of this work is to compare and point out similarities betwen using of vampre motive as a social
and political critique in western movies based on Mathesons story idea:„The last man on earth“(1964),
„The Omega man“(1971) and „I am the legend“(2007) and Serbian movies „Full Moon over Belgrade“
(1993) and „Hunger“ (2002). Throught this comparation, we can vitness the vojage of originaly Balcan
native motive through western adaptation to globaly used social and political metaphore.

Antropologija amerikanizacije Holokausta / Anthropology of the Americanization of the Holocaust

AB - U monografiji pratimo „amerikanizaciju Holokausta“ kroz sećanje u prostoru, filmu i virtuelnoj formi.
AB - In the monograph, we follow “Americanization of Holocaust” through memory in space, lm and virtual form. By means of the analysis of organizing memory policy in American Holocaust museums, memori-als and other institutions, we perceive the American way of connecting space and memory, which not only are thousands of kilometers away but also decades apart. In the part of the work dealing with Holocaust in American lm and the process of hollywoodization of Holocaust, dif-ferent perspectives in which experience and memories are connected to Holocaust are being exposed, as well as the role of America presented in time, in Holocaust movies. Finally, modern forms of memory and phenomenon of interactive virtual memory are being emphasized. In the chapter, the accent falls on American web signs and social networks, which dene the way in which new generations comprehend not only Holocaust events, but also all other events, which could be character-ized as a genocide of a certain kind. The analysis of these social processes enable us to observe the con-struction of a political myth which, through the changes of memory and identity, eventually becomes a resonator of new relations in memory, identity and global power. This work also contributes to future research of similar social phe-nomenon thanks to the author’s interdisciplinary approach and applied methodology.

abstract = "U monografiji pratimo „amerikanizaciju Holokausta“ kroz sećanje u prostoru, filmu i virtuelnoj formi. Zahvaljujući interdisciplinarnom pristupu i metodologiji korišćenoj prilikom rada, ova monografija doprinosi budućim istraživanjima sličnih društvenih fenomena., In the monograph, we follow “Americanization of Holocaust” through memory in space, lm and virtual form. AB - Rad obrađuje temu sekti u Srbiji, odnosno povezanost delovanja sekti i nasilja.
AB - The paper deals with the topic of sects in Serbia, that is, the connection between the activities of sects and violence. On the example of Serbia, I analyze a pseudo-scientific book, then the journalistic approach to the problem, as well as the problem of the media's unprofessional interpretation of the problem of sects, that is, the connection between sects and violence.
