Abstract

Префикс су- уноси у придевска образовања значење недосегнутости пуног степена особине казаног основним придевом. У савременом српском књижевном језику он је изразито непродуктиван и комбинује се са малим бројем лексема. У народним говорима овај вид придева сасвим је обичан на територији херцеговачко-крајишког дијалекта, док су у осталим говорима потврђена само ретка појединачна лексичка образовања овога типа.

The prefix su- adds a diminutive meaning to adjectives, indicating that the basic meaning of the adjective it is added to is considerably diminished: sulud (a little bit crazy, silly), suvlažan (not so wet, wettish), etc. This prefix is commonly added to the adjectives expressing a negative psychological feature of a person (sulud /silly/, sublesav /foolish/, subudalast /senseless/), a colour (subeo /whitish/, sumodar / bluish/, sumrkast /brownish/), and a state (supijan /boozy, a little drunk/, sutrusan / benumbed, dazed/). This is a distinctly unproductive prefix in Serbian with a small number of lexemes it is combined with. Its use has been recorded in the Serbian dialects, particularly in Herzegovina-Krajina speech, especially in the western part of this area (Banija, Lika, Bosanska Krajina), as well as in the region belonging to the contemporary terrtory of Montenegro (Piva and Uskoci). The number of adjectives that are combined with this prefix is not large (about twenty in our material), but its use in the formation of adjectives is quite common in the speech of the aforementioned regions. Certain lexicalised versions of this type are evident in other speech types (sulud /silly/, suludnicav /foolish, a little crazy/).
