(Де)компресија као семантички механизам у политичкој карикатури

Abstract

У раду се разматра однос компресије и појмовне интеграције у Фоконијеовој и Тарнеровој когнитивнолингвистичкој терији. Аутор сматра да појмовна интеграција и компресија, иако се често преплићу, нису исти механизми и предлаже минимални тропросторски модел за проучавање директне компресије. Са друге стране, индиректна компресија се ослања на метафоричке везе и остварује се у моделу појмовне интеграције. Разлику између директне и индиректне компресије аутор илуструје примерима политичких карикатура из опуса познатог српског карикатуристе Предрага Кораксића Коракса. Детаљна анализа одабраних карикатура показала је да се предложеним моделима директне и индиректне компресије могу осветлили различити (де)компресивни механизми и објаснити потенцијалне варијације у разумевању сликовног наратива.

In this paper we discussed the relationship between compression and conceptual integration within Fauconnier and Turner’s theory. We found that these two conceptual phenomena are distinguishable despite the fact that both are the result of the same guiding principle of achieving a human scale. Thus, the minimal model for analyzing compression has three mental spaces (unlike Fauconnier and Turner’s minimal model of conceptual integration which consists of four spaces): the decompressed, the compressed, and the generic space. In this model there is no need for two inputs because the standard mechanism of compression (the scaling, the syncopation, and the metonymic tightening principle) are sufficient to explain the relationship between the decompressed and the compressed structure. On the other hand, compression and integration act together if the frame of the compressed space could not be derived directly from the decompressed one. In that case, there is actually a fourth space – the prism of compression – and this process could be called indirect compression. Further, we showed, on the examples of the political cartoons, what direct and the indirect (de)compressions look like. For that propose we used the cartoons of the well-known Serbian caricaturist Predrag Koraksić Corax. The trigger of the decompression in both cases is a dissonant element in the visual narrative of the cartoon. If that element is an unstable conceptual mixture, it will be naturally decomposed in the input spaces. Otherwise, if dissonance could be eliminated by direct conceptual “translating” of the compressed cartoon narrative into the decompressed one with decompression mechanisms, there is no need for the complex model of integration of two input spaces.
