Зет грчког цара. Источна политика

Abstract

Размотрен је источни правац спољне политике краља Милутина, који је обухватао односе са владарима Римско-византијског царства у Константинопољу и Бугарског царства, укључујући и тамошње локалне господаре, као и са господарима татарске Златне хорде и Тесалије–дакле, државама које су, са изузетком татарске, припадале источно-хришћанском православном кругу. Нагласак је стављен на војне походе и брачне стратегије као главна средства политике, а посебно на краљеву женидбу кћерком византијског цара 1299. године која је из основа променила карактер односа две државе, зауставила његова значајна освајања у византијској Македонији и учинила да византијски цар постане важан чинилац односа у Српској краљевини.

The paper explores King Milutin’s foreign policy towards the East, which involved relations with the Byzantine-Roman emperors in Constantinople, the Bulgarian Empire and local potentates from these regions, the Golden Horde of the Tartars and the lords of Thessaly, i.e. the states that, with the exception of the Tatars, belonged to the Eastern Orthodox Christian sphere. The paper focuses on military force and marital strategy as the main tools of statecraft, and in particular on the king’s marriage to the daughter of the Byzantine emperor in 1299 which wrought fundamental changes to the character of relations between the two states, brought to an end the king’s significant conquests in Byzantine Macedonia and made the Byzantine emperor an important actor in relations within the Serbian lands themselves.
