The paper presents the memories of Janićije Popović of his school
friends and teachers in Vardarska Macedonia in the period from 1905
to 1915. In his collection of short stories and notes, Plamen, he showed
the teachers Petar Baljozović (from Velika Foča), Milan Kovačević
(from Montenegro) who was teaching in Prilep, Todor Mihajlović, a
teacher (from Tetovo). He especially wrote about himself and his wife
who was a teacher, too. The memories mention other personas from
Popović’s circle. There are picturesque descriptions of Serbian priests
and countrymen. He also presents the data on Bulgarian crimes.
The memories of Janićije Popović represent an interesting picture of
the life of the Serbs in Turkey before the Liberation of 1912 and are
important as a historical document.
