Гаврил Стефановић Венцловић, јеромонах, вредни писар и надахнути беседник из прве половине XVIII века, својим радом обележио је једно одкључних раздобља у историји српске културе. Међу противречностима којe обележавају његов живот и дело, једна од најуочљивијих је несразмера између неколико хиљада руком писаних страница које је за собом оставио и штурих, неповезаних и непотпуних података о његовом животу. Најчешће се претпоставља да је живео од 1680. до 1749. године. Сматра се да је током Велике сеобе 1690. године прешао у Сентaндреју, где је у преписивачкој школи при капели Св. Луке био ученик калуђера Кипријана Рачанина, из манастира Рача крај Дрине, једног од последњих расадника српске писмености. Након школовања, служио је на парохијама по српским насељима у Горњем Подунављу, у Сентандреји, Ђуру, Коморану и Острогону. Често је мењао пребивалиште, а записано је да је 1739. године дошао у Коморан као „славни проповедник из Сентандреје”.
Gavril Stefanović Venclović, hieromonk, diligent scribe, and inspired orator from the first half of the XVIII century, marked one of the most significant periods in the history of Serbian culture. Amongst the many contradictions that characterize his life and oeuvre, the most notable one is the disproportion between the several thousands of hand-written pages he left behind, and the sparse, unconnected and incomplete data on his life. It is usually assumed that he lived between 1680 and 1749, and supposedly moved to Szentendre during the Great Migration of 1690. There, he studied at the chapel of St. Luke, under the tutelage of the monk Kiprijan Račanin of the Rača Monastery by the Drina – one of the last nurseries of Serbian literacy. Upon completing his education, he served in parishes across the Serbian settlements in the upper Danube area: Szentendre, Gyor,Komarom and Esztergom. He changed his residence frequently, and upon his arrival to Komarom in 1739, he was heralded as “the fa...mous preacher from Szentendre”.
