Отраслевая лексикография Беларуси
Abstract
The quality of any national terminography directly depends on the availability of both the
necessary dictionary-reference knowledge among the subject-specialists who create the terminography
products, and the activity of professional terminologists in exercising their methodological
and expert functions in the process of the evaluation and correction of the published terminography
products today. The achievements and problems of the modern Belarusian terminography are fully
defined by the degree of fulfillment of the above conditions.
On the one hand, the indisputable achievements of modern Belarusian terminography should
include the following characteristics: 1) there are several thousand subject-specialists and termino-logy professionals involved in the Belarusian terminography process today, and the process itself
covers the majority of scientific disciplines and branches of knowledge represented in Belarus; 2)
over two thousand terminology dictionaries and reference books ...of different types have been published
in Belarusian, Russian, Polish, English and other languages as the practical result of the terminography
activities of these Belarusian subject-specialists and terminology professionals.
On the other hand, the unsolved problems of modern Belarusian terminography should include
the following: 1) there is a clearly insufficient level of cooperation between the subject-specialists
and terminology professionals of Belarus. If a closer union between these terminologists
and subject-specialists is not established in the nearest future, then experts in Belarusian terminography
and the science of terminology are likely to stop coordinating their professional efforts with
the general science of Belarusian philology, and the further development of these cross-cutting disciplines
will follow separate paths as is already happening in some countries in the West; 2) the
comparative analysis of the classifications of branches of professional knowledge (alphabetic, subject,
thematic and systemic indexes supplemented to terminography guides) created in Belarus,
Lithuania and Ukraine has shown a large difference in their contents. The development of a more
versatile rubricator of these professional knowledge branches might solve this problem.
