Геометрија полинома у радовима Михаила Петровића и његових наследника

Abstract

Works in the field of geometry of polynomials occupy a prominent place in the scientific opus of Mihailo Petrovic. He demonstrated interest in this field since his earliest days. His first scientific work, written at the age of 19, relates to one method for determination the roots of a polynomial. Petrovic appeared on the international arena at a time when this field began to form as a relatively independent mathematical discipline. During his stay in France, his interest in this field deepened, among other things, and because the French mathematical school has traditionally dealt with these problems. The geometry of polynomials is one of those areas that Petrovi´c founded and started in Serbian mathematics. The paper presents a short history of this area as well as the contribution of Mihailo Petrovic and his students until today.
