Институт за српски језик САНУ је централна научна установа у Србији за систематско проучавање српског језика у садашњости и прошлости, као и за израду капиталних лексикографских и лингвогеографских дела – речника и атласа. Основан је 1947. године у оквиру Српске академије наука (доцније Српске академије наука и уметности), на темељима Лексикографског одсека који је 1893. године формирала Српска краљевска академија на иницијативу академика Стојана Новаковића. Институт обавља следеће научне задатке: лингвистичка истраживања савременог српског језика, опис и стандардизација савременог српског језика, обрада старог српског писаног наслеђа, дијалектолошка истраживања српског језика и етимолошка истраживања српског језика. Институт усклађује своју делатност са прописима о заштити података, ауторским правима, као и са политиком отворене науке коју подржавају Министарство просвете, науке и технолошког развоја и Српске академије наука и уметности.

The Institute for the Serbian Language of SASA is the central research organization in Serbia responsible for the systematic study of the Serbian language of past and present, as well as for the production of major lexicographic and linguogeographic works – dictionaries and atlases. It was established in 1947 as a division of the Serbian Academy of Sciences (subsequently Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts) on the foundations of the Lexicographic Department, founded in 1893 by the Serbian Royal Academy at the initiative of Academician Stojan Novaković. The Institute performs the following research tasks: linguistic research of the modern Serbian language, description and standardization of the modern Serbian language, study of the old Serbian written heritage, dialectological research of the Serbian language and etymological research of the Serbian language. The activities of the Institute are harmonized with regulations on data protection and copyright, as well as with the Open Science policy supported by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development and the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts.
