Abstract

This issue of Zbornik contains papers originally presented at the 4th National Byzantine Studies Conference, held at the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts and the Faculty of Philosophy of Belgrade University, October 27th-29th 2005. A number of contributions presented at the Conference which, for different reasons, could not be published here, will appear in the next issue of Zbornik, planed for the autumn to come. As customary, the Conference had a thematic session - this time topic was Serbia and Byzantium:The Last Century - and a general one, comprising presentations on different topics. The presented papers at both of sessions feature results of research within some projects, which are financed by the Ministry of Science and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Serbia. A peculiar feature of the Conference and of this issue of Zbornik is that some of the papers present the first results of the Greek-Serbian project on the interaction of Byzantium and Serbia in the last century of their existence, carried out in cooperation by the Institute of Byzantine Research (Athens) of the National Hellenic Resiarch Foundation and the Institute for Byzantine Studies of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (Belgrade). The interdisciplinary composition of Zbornik reflects the schedule of the Conference which, in its turn, differed from its program only in the absence of some announced speakers. Editorial Board
