Abstract

This paper deals with agricultural policy concept of Dragoljub Jovanović and his political ideas during the existence of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia (1918–1941) and socialist Yugoslavia. He died in 1957. He was a supporter of the idea on private farmers being constant strategic market suppliers of food for the population and raw materials for industry. He was against big capital estates in agriculture. In his opinion, cooperative system of farmers should have been a basic institution to achieve agricultural goals and social prosperity of farmers. He was an ideologue of the cooperative socialism. He was a political federalist and a republican, although he underestimated the necessity of ethnical federal construction of a Yugoslav state. He supported Yugoslavia as a state of South Slavic nations. He raised against natzi-fascist occupation of Yugoslavia and supported the Resistence of all political streams in the country, including the communist one. He did not support the communist one party system in Yugoslavia after the Second World War. His death in 1957 left him without a chance to check his ideas trying to apply them in a democratic environment of Yugoslavia.
