Discourse and Ethnic Identity. The Case of the Serbs from Hungary

Abstract

Discourse, narrative, and identity are some of the most frequently employed concepts in the contemporary humanities. It is their dialectical relationship, in particular, which has been a focus of scholarly attention for quite some time. This book explores some of the complex relations between oral discourse and ethnicity by using the example of the Serbian minority in Hungary. The power and powerlessness of discourse in negotiating identity are examined through a case study of a small Serbian community near Budapest. The study is of interest to those who are concerned with theoretical issues related to discourse and ethnicity, as well as to scholars of national minorities and minority languages in Eastern and Central Europe.

Дискурс, нарација и идентитет неки су од најчешће коришћених концепата у савременој хуманистичкој науци. Нарочито је њихов дијалектички однос већ дуже време у средишту пажње научника. Ова књига истражује сложене односе између усменог дискурса и етничке припадности на примеру српске мањине у Мађарској. Снага и немоћ дискурса у преговарању идентитета испитују се кроз студију случаја мале српске заједнице у Чипу, близини Будимпеште . Студија је занимљива за оне који се баве теоријским питањима која се односе на дискурс и етничку припадност, као и за научнике националних мањина и језика мањина у Источној и Централној Европи.
