The linguistic investigation which had been done of some phonetic, morphological, syntactic and lexical characteristics of Gerasim Zelich's folk language showed that this native jekavian didn't reject the influences of ekavian speech milieu, but, on the contrary, one can namely notice in his expression a certain number of Sumadija-Vojvodina characteristics. Those characteristics are, however, neither so much in evidence nor such an to influence decisively the general picture; on the whole, Gerasim Zelich remains the realrepresentative of his native eastern Hercegovina type of dialect.
The presence of Sumadija-Vojvodine characteristics can be explained by Zelich’s intensive friendship with a prominent Serbian
writer Dositej Obradovich, as well an by his travelling through Vojvodina.
