Resume The Church of St. Nicholas in Old Slankamen occupies a significant place in the cultural history of the Serbian people. In the cultural heritage of the Old Slankamen it occupies the most important place and is best preserved. This church, after the church in Kupinovo, is considered the oldest in Srem, and has preserved its original form to date. As early as 1501, it appeared for the first time in the records, and according to the folk tradition, it was built in 1468 according to the wishes of Vuk Grgurovic. Although it has been added and refined, it still represents a great cultural and historical value. The church was built in the style of the Moravian architectural school, as a triangular structure with a cube over the central part, which was later removed. Its cultural and historical value is that it represents the pattern by which the churches were built in Srem, among which the most famous is the monastery church of Krusedol. Thanks to the good position of the church in a dry and elevated place, this architectural work is well preserved. The iconostasis in the church was well preserved as well. Iconostasis in the church of St. Nicholas stylistically belongs to the baroque art which in this region was in the zenith of almost the entire 18th century. This iconostasis was largely done under the influence of Ukrainian Baroque art, although it is evident that some pictures are copys of West Europen's graphics.Until the seventies of the last century, researchers began to work more intensively on iconography in this church. By analyzing and studying, it was determined that the painter was Stefan Tenecki. Tenecki was one of the most prolific Serbian painter of the second half of the 18th century. The iconostasis has 55 icons. The icons on this iconostasis have no major iconographic and stylistic changes in relation to similar iconostases from the transition period. In the church there is also the icon of the Virgin with Christ, the first icon of the famous artist Teodor Kracun.en
