Државотворна мисао и дело Стојана Новаковића

Abstract

Предмет анализе рада су државотворна мисао и дело Стојана Нова ковића, једног од највећих српских научника и државника, који је живео и стварао у другој половини 19. и почетком 20. века. Главни циљ рада је утврђивање карактеристика и резултата политичког делања Стојана Новаковића на плану учвршћивања и осамостаљивања младе српске државе. Методи који су коришћени у истраживању су анализа садржаја и историјско-упоредни метод помоћу којих су вредновани Новаковићеви искази и релевантна грађа. Резултат рада је потврђивање историјске чињенице да је Стојан Новаковић био један од кључних српских државника који је деценијама предано радио на реализацији идеје ос лобођења и уједињења српског народа у највећој могућој мери у којој су то спољно-политичке околности дозвољавале. При том је користио легалне политичке методе, пре свега просвет но-просветитељског карактера, и то углавном на тлу Старе Србије и Македоније. Тежио је и стварању балканског савеза и остварењу југословенства. У спољној политици претежно је тражио ослон у Русији.

Stojan Novaković was one of the greatest Serbian scientists and statesmen who lived and worked in the second half of the 19th and at the beginning of the 20th century. He had left a comprehensive body of works from history, philology and politics, and was, during his life, very respected as a scientist and a diplomat in Serbia and abroad. Main goal of the totality of his political, not only state activities, was realization of the great idea of the century: liberation and unification of Serbian nation. The generation of Serbian politicians and statesmen to which Stojan Novaković belonged was tasked by the history to finalize the realization of that idea, to the greatest extent allowed by the political circumstances. Stojan Novaković was leading this struggle, utilizing the strength of the educational and enlightening influence of the Serbian state on the members of the Serbian nation in not yet liberated regions, primarily Old Serbia and Macedonia. He was proponent of the legal battle for recognition of Serbian nationality and its rights in line with international standards of the time. He saw Serbian history as a source of inspiration for liberation, and the best practices of European history as guideposts for the unification of Serbian nation, which was to be preceded by its linguistic harmonization. He advocated for the ideas of yugoslavism and the formation of the Balkan Alliance. He considered the Balkan Alliance of equal countries to be the only possible instrument for reaching the freedom of Balkan nations still living within the borders of the Turkish Empire. He saw yugoslavism, however, as the best barrier to growing imperial ambitions of Austria-Hungary in the Balkans. He treated great powers as allies “by necessity“, and chose among them according to the greater state interest of Serbia. Still, he gave advantage to Russia, despite its inconsistent policies towards Serbian state and the people.
