Owing to its important geopolitical position, the Serbian (town of
Zemun has been attracting the attenkm of the inhabitants of Turkishoccupied
Greek territory from as early as the seventeenth century. They
started to make their way there and gradually established one of the
most flourishing Greek colonies in the north-western Balkans. Little is
known about the educational system attended by the Greek children of
Zemun; however, the historical documentation which the author has
recently brought to the attention of scholars sheds considerable light on
the subject.
