Abstract
This paper’s focus of interest lies with the songs created by the Worhippers movement (in Serbian: Bogomoljački pokret) which started in Serbia under the influence of St Bishop Nikolai Velimirovich between the two world wars. He is the author of most lines of these songs. However, many anonymous song writers were also the authors. These songs are characterized by simple melodies by unknown authors, mostly from the church and Serbian traditional folk music. Originally, these songs were not performed in the liturgical context, but usually at folk fairs, home gatherings etc. Over the years, they have become very popular transforming their role into the communion liturgy songs. In this paper we will deal with the issues related to their role in the contemporary worship practice in Serbia.
