dc.description.abstract | The paper discusses the motivational basis of the Budimlja onym, during which process we took into account the folk tradition of the city of Budim (,,Budim grad“ — Budim city) on top of Gradac Hill near the present- day village of Budimlja. The onyms Budim, Budimlja and Budimlje are viewed as related forms, i.e. as the names of spatially (and conceptually) linked, clearly defined or indefinite geographic zones. Special emphasis was placed on the noticed possibility that the onym stem reveals the passive present participle of the verb buditi (se) — wake (oneself) up-known in Old Church Slavonic (and Russian): *bud-im> one easily awakened’ (quick-thinking, quick-reacting), “awakable.” We also focused on the proof of the remnants of that verb form in Serbian. The parallels vidim and vidljiv can be interpreted as the testimony of the ancient difference between the expression of possibility (vidim) and the expression of “property” (vidljiv), subsequently neutralised 1n the Serbian language feeling. The paper also puts forth and explains the possibility that the three onomastic forms at some stage may have stood for three toponyms (Budim — city, Budimlja — region, sometime district and eparchy, and Budimlje — village), with the same root and different, but interdependent motivation. In the section dedicated to the derivational structure of the secondary forms Budimlja and Budimlje, we point to the close categorial relation (or equality) of the Proto-Slavonic suffixes -јъ и -ъје. | sr |
| sr |
