The main subject of this paper is the relationship between musicology and the vast corpus of theoretical knowledge that could be recognized under the umbrella term of media studies or media theory. Although some aspects of media studies have been used in musicological studies, and music in media has been a subject tackled by theoreticians of other disciplines, it seems that the nuances of the incorporation of media studies’ concepts into musicological discourse have not been the subject of much discussion, at least as compared to other disciplines. Thus, the specifics of music(ology) in the context of media culture, as well as media technology as a subject of interdisciplinary musicology will be discussed in an attempt to think about the increasing visibility of mediatised music in musicology.
