Integer codes correcting single asymmetric errors

AB  - This paper presents a class of integer codes capable of correcting single asymmetric errors. The presented codes are defined over the ring of integers modulo 2b– 1 and are constructed with the help of a computer. The results of an exhaustive search have shown that, for practical lengths up to 4096 bits, the proposed codes use the same number of check bits as the best systematic single asymmetric error-correcting codes (SAECCs). Besides this, it is found that for some lengths the presented codes are perfect. Finally, the paper shows that the encoding/decoding complexity of the proposed codes is notably lower than that of the best systematic SAECCs.

AB  - Na0.25K0.25Bi0.5TiO3 (NKBT) perovskite particles are synthesized by solid-state method and used as a filler for polyvinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene (PVDF-HFP) co-polymer. X-ray diffraction analysis of NKBT powders shows that the particles have a rhombohedral perovskite crystal structure (R3c symmetry). Raman spectroscopy reveals that the co-polymer crystallizes predominantly into the mixture of polar β- and γ-crystals, while there is also a contribution of the non-polar α-crystal phase. The introduction of the NKBT into the PVDF-HFP results with an increase in effective dielectric permittivity and this effect depends on the inorganic content in the composite. The most interesting result of the present study is that the introduction of NKBT particles induces the appearance of an additional transition peak in the dielectric spectra of the co-polymer matrix. At the fixed frequency of ~2 kHz, the observed process appears at ~10 °C (about 45° above the glass transition temperature) and its magnitude strongly depends on the amount of the NKBT in the composite. Dielectric spectroscopy measurements of the composites are carried out in the wide range of frequencies (from 0.1 Hz to 1 MHz) and temperatures (from −100 to 100 °C). They reveal that the novel process can be clearly distinguished in the frequency range between 160 Hz and ~50 kHz.

The influence of the starch coating on the magnetic properties of nanosized cobalt ferrites obtained by different synthetic methods

AB  - To investigate the magnetic behavior of starch-coated cobalt ferrites, well-established synthetic methods, i.e., coprecipitation, mechanochemical, ultrasonically assisted coprecipitation, microemulsion, and microwave-assisted hydrothermal syntheses were chosen for their preparation. The obtained materials had pure single-phase spinel structures. Scanning and transmission electron microscopy analyses revealed that the morphology of the samples is not uniform, and particle aggregation is a dominant process. Fourier transform infrared spectra and thermogravimetric analysis confirmed the presence of starch in all–coated samples. The unusually higher saturation magnetization of starch-coated samples than their as-prepared analogs, obtained by coprecipitation, ultrasonically assisted coprecipitation, and microwave-assisted hydrothermal methods, might be explained by the Ostwald ripening mechanism induced by the coating process. A decrease in magnetization was noticed for the starch-functionalized nanomaterials synthesized by mechanochemical and microemulsion methods, in comparison to their as-prepared analogs, i.e., the size distribution of such nanoparticles is narrow, and the average diameter of the grains is near critical for the Ostwald ripening process.

Multiferroic Heterostructure BaTiO3/ε-Fe2O3 Composite Obtained by in situ Reaction

AB  - Solid-state reaction between BaTiO3 and Fe2O3 was used to produce a multiferroic heterostructure composite. Commercial BaTiO3 and Fe(NO3)3•9H2O were suspended in ethanol for 30 minutes in an ultrasound bath. The prepared mixture was thermally processed at 300 oC for 6 h. Sintering at 1300 oC for 1 h resulted in a mixture of different phases, BaTiO3, BaFe12O19 and Ba12Ti28Fe15O84, which were confirmed by x-ray powder diffraction. A dense microstructure with a small volume fraction of closed porosity was indicated by the scanning electron microscopy, while a homogeneous distribution of Fe ions over BaTiO3 phase was visible from energy dispersive spectroscopy mapping. Doping of BaTiO3 with Fe2O3 resulted in formation of magnetic hexaferrite phases, as confirmed by dielectric measurements that showed a broadened maximum of the permittivity measured as a function of temperature.

High Heat Treatment of Goat Cheese Milk. The Effect on Sensory Profile, Consumer Acceptance and Microstructure of Cheese

AB  - Goat cheeses from high heat treated milk (HHTM: 80 °C/5 min (E1) and 90 °C/5 min (E2)), could be regarded as new products, compared to their analogues made from commonly pasteurized milk (65 °C/30 min (C)). Descriptive analysis and consumer tests with a hedonic scale and JAR scale were part of the product development process. The use of scanning electron microscopy enabled deeper insight into the flavor and texture of the cheeses. In all cheese variants, goaty flavor was mildly pronounced. Young HHTM cheeses also had a pronounced whey and cooked/milky flavor. Consumers found such flavor ‘too intensive’. Unlike the control variant, HHTM cheeses were not described as ‘too hard’. Such improvement in texture was found to be a result of fine, highly branched microstructure, sustained over the course of ripening time and highly incorporated milk fat globules inside the cheese mass. Cluster analysis showed that the largest group of consumers (47.5%) preferred E2 cheese. Although consumers found that most of the cheeses were ‘too salty’, this excess did not decrease their overall acceptance. Neither microstructure analysis nor descriptive sensory analysis of goat white brined cheeses produced from high heat treated milk has been done before.

AB  - The paper will present and analyze the terminology of nutrition in ritual practice, which was and it is still in use among Serbs in the Danube Gorge (Romania). The terminological corpus will be drawn from the field records of the authors of the paper, which were recorded in 2017 in the villages of Divič, Stara Moldava and Belobreška. The terms presented in the paper will be considered within the general context of use. In that way, the significance they have in the ritual-customary practice of the Patron Saint among Serbs in this part of Romania will be shown. Along with the analysis of the field material, the relevant literature related to this area will be consulted. The aim of the paper would be to present the terminological.
lexicon and thus keep it from oblivion, as well as to show the useful meaning of 
these terms in the rituals. As a contribution to the work, several recipes of Saint 
Patron ritual nutrition, from the mentioned villages will be given in the form of 
transcripts.

Changes in long-term properties and natural cycles of the Danube river level and flow induced by damming

AB  - In this paper we assessed changes in scaling properties of the river Danube level and flow data, associated with building of Djerdap/Iron Gates hydrological power plants positioned on the border of Romania and Serbia. We used detrended fluctuation analysis (DFA), wavelet transform spectral analysis (WTS) and wavelet modulus maxima method (WTMM) to investigate time series of measurements from hydrological stations in the vicinity of dams and in the area of up to 480 km upstream from dams, and time series of simulated NOAA-CIRES 20th Century Global Reanalysis precipitation data for the Djerdap/Iron Gates region. By comparing river dynamics during the periods before and after construction of dams, we were able to register changes in scaling that are different for recordings from upstream and from downstream (from dams) areas. We found that damming caused appearance of human-made or enhancement of natural cycles in the small time scales region, which largely influenced the change in temporal scaling in downstream recording stations. We additionally found disappearance or decline in the amplitude of large-time-scale cycles as a result of damming, which changed the dynamics of upstream data. The most prominent finding of our paper is a demonstration of a complete or partial loss of annual cycles in the upstream stations’ data that stems from the operation of the artificial water reservoir and extends as far as 220 km from dams. We discussed probable sources of such found changes in scaling, aiming to provide explanations that could be of use in future environmental assessments.

The War is On: Female Leadership in Serbian Metal Music

AB  - This presentation will focus on the role of women, and especially frontwomen, in Serbian metal music. The overview will be done following the first emergence of female-fronted bands in the late 1990s and the early 2000s, up to the most recent emergence of all-female metal bands. In comparison to the development of the international metal music scene, I will look into the genre predisposition and historical circumstances of frontwomanship (from symphonic metal to extreme metal subgenres) and look into the changing narrative of this overall male-dominated scene. Given that the female roles in metal bands are still, by and large, the ones of a vocalist, this paper will also give insight into the development of female vocals in metal – from more mainstream clean and operatic singing to the ‘underground’, extreme vocals.

AB  - The Church Slavonic heritage in Serbian dialects: the neuter gender nouns with the
suffix -ije. This paper deals with Church Slavonic (i.e., Serbian-Slavonic or Russian-Slavon-
ic) neuter gender nouns with the suffix -ije which are attested in Serbian dialects. They are
often phonetically adapted to the characteristics of a given speech (Usjecenije, Sekovanije,
Avedenije, vandelije) and sometimes they have female counterparts with the suffix -ija (di-
janija, spasenija, stradanija). Most of these words preserve the original meanings of their
Church Slavonic etyma (mucenije, pogibenije, prikazanije, stradanije, sagresenije), while some
have undergone a shift or even a complete change of the original semantics (zdanije, dijanije,
mréenije, nakazanije, napadenije). These nouns mainly indicate expressiveness and are often
used in collocations (bozje nakazanije, skoncanije sveta), toasts (na spasenije duse), curses (na

Photovoltaics advancements for transition from renewable to clean energy

AB  - Moving from fossil fuels toward renewable resources of energy has a worldwide consensus. Solar energy alone can satisfy all our energy requirements since the earth receives 725 ZJ of energy from the sun each year while total human energy consumption in 2019 was 0.584 ZJ. The 2010s are highlighted as a transitional decade when the photovoltaic conversion industry transformed from a subsidized to a profitable energy sector. While photovoltaic energy conversion is a clean process, technologies for producing photovoltaic materials and solar panels affect the environment. The utilization of photovoltaic materials with low impact on the environment during the entire life cycle will mark the beginning of the sustainable transition toward 100% clean renewable energy sources in a sustainable manner. Thus far, only perovskite compounds have the potential to satisfy these requirements because of their theoretical conversion efficiencies, ease of synthesis, production scalability, adaptability, and comparability to existing photovoltaic systems. In this article, the rise of the photovoltaic industry in the last decade is shown and requirements in further transition from renewable to clean sources of renewable energy are foreseen.

AB  - Sodium ion batteries (SIB) present one of the most perspective post lithium technology and their progress strongly depends on the development of compounds having the structure which enables fast sodium insertion/deinsertion reactions. Polyanion compounds have been widely investigated as cathode materials for SIBs where they compete effectively to the usually used layered oxides. This survey is focused on the development of specific family of isostructural polyanion phases encompassed by the common chemical formula Na4M3(PO4)2(P2O7). The comprehensive retrospective of their synthesis procedures, the kinetics and mechanism of sodiation/desodiation reactions, based on both experimental and theoretical results, is provided. First, the review summarizes the structural properties of variety of Na4M3(PO4)2(P2O7) compounds in terms of its electrical, vibrational and surface properties. Then, the synthesis methods and sodium/lithium storage performance, of each type of Na4M3(PO4)2(P2O7) compounds, are chronologically presented and discussed. Finally, the strengths and weaknesses of these mixed polyanion cathodes are outlined, with the aim to explain some discrepancies and unclarified issues encountered in the literature. Besides, this survey will make room for future development. It can be very useful for the future design of high-performance mixed polyanionic compounds as cathodes for alkaline-ion rechargeable batteries.

AB  - Electrochemical and structural properties of LiV2O5 cathode were investigated. Obtained by solid state reaction at high temperature the material crystallized as gamma polymorph phase, γ-LiV2O5. The gamma structure provides two crystallographic sites to accommodate lithium ions, Li1 and Li2 position. Lithium insertion at these two sites occurs at two respective voltages versus lithium metal: ~3.6 V (Li1) and ~2.4 V (Li2). Intercalation at Li1 position is reversible in both organic and aqueous electrolyte and provides stable cycling performance at the high voltage. On the contrary, sluggish insertion/removal of Li+ at Li2 sites causes unstable performance and significant storage capacity fade at lower voltages. Lithium diffusion 3d landscape was determined by bond valence calculations applied on the γ-LiV2O5 phase, as well as on the metastable phases of γ′-V2O5 and ζ-Li2V2O5 that exist at high and low voltages respectively. The model was proposed based on inactivity of Li2 position of the metastable ζ-Li2V2O5 phase which provides explanation for the observed storage capacity loss at low voltages.

Being intrinsically metastable, the process of transformation of ACP into a crystalline phase upon heating is of high relevance for the development of innovative bioceramics. Here we have first studied the thermal behavior of a citrate-stabilized ACP (Cit-ACP) also doped with fluoride ions (Cit-FACP) prepared at three different nominal Cit/Ca ratios (i.e. 4, 2, 1) by differential thermal analysis. Next, the physico-chemical features of the crystalline products as well as the in vitro cell response to the materials were investigated. A citrate and fluoride free ACP sample was also tested as the blank. We have found that the activation energy of crystallization of Cit-(F)ACP samples is lower in comparison to the blank ACP and this is influenced by the nominal Cit/Ca molar ratio. Interestingly, we have discovered that the thermal treatment of Cit-(F)ACP at 800 °C yields hydroxyapatite (HA) or fluorapatite (FHA) as the main products differently from blank ACP that, like most of the ACPs reported in the literature, yields β-tricalcium phosphate. This was attributed to the Ca/P ratio of Cit-(F)ACP, which is similar to HA. A study of the crystalline products has revealed that all the (F)HA samples were non-cytotoxic, and retained carbonate ions in the crystal structure despite the heat treatment that should have induced decarbonation. The morphology of the products is influenced by the nominal Cit/Ca ratio and the presence of fluoride, ranging from spherical nanoparticles to micrometric hexagonal rods. Overall, our results prove that the thermal crystallization of Cit-(F)ACP is markedly different from classic ACP based materials and the thermal treatment of Cit-(F)ACP represents an attractive route for producing pure bioactive HA ceramics.

AB  - Sodium ion batteries (SIB) present one of the most perspective post lithium technology and their progress strongly depends on the development of compounds having the structure which enables fast sodium insertion/deinsertion reactions. Polyanion compounds have been widely investigated as cathode materials for SIBs where they compete effectively to the usually used layered oxides. This survey is focused on the development of specific family of isostructural polyanion phases encompassed by the common chemical formula Na4M3(PO4)2(P2O7). The comprehensive retrospective of their synthesis procedures, the kinetics and mechanism of sodiation/desodiation reactions, based on both experimental and theoretical results, is provided. First, the review summarizes the structural properties of variety of Na4M3(PO4)2(P2O7) compounds in terms of its electrical, vibrational and surface properties. Then, the synthesis methods and sodium/lithium storage performance, of each type of Na4M3(PO4)2(P2O7) compounds, are chronologically presented and discussed. Finally, the strengths and weaknesses of these mixed polyanion cathodes are outlined, with the aim to explain some discrepancies and unclarified issues encountered in the literature. Besides, this survey will make room for future development. It can be very useful for the future design of high-performance mixed polyanionic compounds as cathodes for alkaline-ion rechargeable batteries.

AB  - Sodium ion batteries (SIB) present one of the most perspective post lithium technology and their progress strongly depends on the development of compounds having the structure which enables fast sodium insertion/deinsertion reactions. Polyanion compounds have been widely investigated as cathode materials for SIBs where they compete effectively to the usually used layered oxides. This survey is focused on the development of specific family of isostructural polyanion phases encompassed by the common chemical formula Na4M3(PO4)2(P2O7). The comprehensive retrospective of their synthesis procedures, the kinetics and mechanism of sodiation/desodiation reactions, based on both experimental and theoretical results, is provided. First, the review summarizes the structural properties of variety of Na4M3(PO4)2(P2O7) compounds in terms of its electrical, vibrational and surface properties. Then, the synthesis methods and sodium/lithium storage performance, of each type of Na4M3(PO4)2(P2O7) compounds, are chronologically presented and discussed. Finally, the strengths and weaknesses of these mixed polyanion cathodes are outlined, with the aim to explain some discrepancies and unclarified issues encountered in the literature. Besides, this survey will make room for future development. It can be very useful for the future design of high-performance mixed polyanionic compounds as cathodes for alkaline-ion rechargeable batteries.

Argon/dust and pure argon pulsed plasmas explored using a spatially-averaged model

AB  - The properties (densities of electrons and metastable argon atoms, effective electron temperature and dust charge) of argon/dust and pure argon pulsed plasmas are studied using a spatially-averaged model. The calculated time-dependencies for the densities of electrons and metastable atoms are compared with the experimental measurements and are found to be in a good qualitative agreement. It is analyzed how the plasma properties depend on the shape of the electron energy probability function (EEPF), the pulsing frequency and the duty cycle for both dust-free and dusty plasma. The analysis reveals that the agreement between theory and experiment is better with Druyvesteyn EEPF than the Maxwellian EEPF. Further, the variation in the pulsing frequency νp differently affects the metastable density nm in a dust-free and in a dusty plasma. For large νp, the metastable density in the dust-free pulsed plasma is larger than in the continuous-wave (CW) discharge, while the opposite is obtained in the presence of dust particles. This difference probably arises because of faster variation in the effective electron temperature in the dusty plasma due to collection of electrons by dust particles. Our calculations also show that dust particles may affect the behavior of electron density in the beginning of the on-period due to an enhancement in electron collection by dust particles.

Integer codes correcting single asymmetric errors

AB  - This paper presents a class of integer codes capable of correcting single asymmetric errors. The presented codes are defined over the ring of integers modulo 2b– 1 and are constructed with the help of a computer. The results of an exhaustive search have shown that, for practical lengths up to 4096 bits, the proposed codes use the same number of check bits as the best systematic single asymmetric error-correcting codes (SAECCs). Besides this, it is found that for some lengths the presented codes are perfect. Finally, the paper shows that the encoding/decoding complexity of the proposed codes is notably lower than that of the best systematic SAECCs.
