AB  - Prompted by the emergence of Serbian black metal supergroup Gavranovi and their two singles released in 2020, this article offers an interdisciplinary and intertextual reading of this project. In this article, collaborative efforts of musicology and ethnomusicology are employed in interpreting the new readings of Serbian epic tradition in the context of extreme metal, as well as its positioning in the history of Serbian extreme metal scene in general. By using the gusle, a traditional instrument, as well as the postulates of Serbian epic poetry, Gavranovi participate in contemporary remediation of tradition, which will be examined through the lens of (inter)textual analysis.

Током теренског истраживања које је спроведено од 2003. до 2015. године евидентирани су и архитектонски снимљени објекти градитељског наслеђа у селима која се налазе на западним падинама Старе планине. Посебно су истраживане области Горњи Висок и Забрђе на обронцима Видлича. С обзиром да се драгоцено градитељско наслеђе на овом подручју налази у стању алармантне угрожености и да великом брзином нестаје, у чланку су разматране могућности његовог очувања кроз формирање архитектонског резервата као просторно дефинисане и функционално јединствене целине базиране на синтези створеног и природног наслеђа. Структуру резервата би чинила архитектонска језгра, старопланинска села или издвојени локалитети у којима се налазе аутентичне куће вернакуларне архитектуре, међусобно повезана путном инфраструктуром, формирајући специфичну архитектонску руту. Саставне елементе резервата чиниле би и природне вредности, геоморфолошке, геолошке, хидролошке и хидрогеолошкe особености и места. Формирање резервата има за циљ и експлоатацију садржаја, едукацију становништва и развој туризма. На тај начин би могао да се активира економски потенцијал за финансирање очувања непоновљивог градитељског наслеђа Старе планине.
AB  - This paper analyses the conditions and possibilities with regard to preserving vernacular architecture in the area of Stara Planina Mountain, Serbia. The field research, conducted from 2003 to 2015, recorded and documented architectural heritage in the villages on the western slopes of Stara Planina Mountain. The areas of Gornji Visok and Zabrdje on the slopes of Vidlič were primarily explored. Considering that the valuable architectural heritage in this area is in a state of alarming threat, and disappearing at high speed, the article discusses the possibilities with regard to its preservation through the formation of an architectural reserve, as a spatially defined and functionally unique place based on a synthesis of created and natural heritage. The reserve’s structure would consist of architectural cores that are entire villages, or isolated localities with authentic houses of vernacular architecture. The architectural cores would be interconnected by road infrastructure, forming a specific architectural route. The constituent elements of the reserve would also include natural heritage, and geomorphological, geological, hydrological and hydrogeological features. The formation of the architectural reserve also aims to utilise built and natural structures, educate inhabitants and visitors, and develop tourism. In that way, the potential for financing the preservation of the unique architectural heritage of Stara Planina could be initiated.

Impact of the COVID-19 restrictive measures on urban traffic-related air pollution in Serbia

AB  - This study has analyzed the traffic-related change in atmospheric pollutants levels (PM2.5, PM10, CO, NO2, SO2, and O3) caused by the COVID-19 restrictive measures, based on traffic ground-based stations data in urban areas in Serbia. The possible influence of several meteorological factors (temperature, wind, pressure, and humidity), and mobility on the pollutants’ levels were also considered. The obtained results showed a positive correlation of daily NO2 concentrations with mobility and its significant reduction during restrictive measures at all selected monitoring stations. The reduction of NO2 was higher than in other countries (71.1–111.5% for measured, and 49.3–92.6% for ‘deweathered’ data), indicating a high traffic impact on NO2 levels in Serbia. The PM, CO, and SO2 showed a weak correlation with mobility during the period with restrictive measures, which, besides traffic, indicates the significant influence of other sources of their concentration. The O3 concentrations were increased at all measuring stations and are negatively correlated to mobility. Comparison of pollutant concentrations during restriction with the equivalent period in preceding years showed reductions in NO2 and SO2 concentrations. However, compared to previous years, the concentrations of PM2.5, PM10, and CO increased in the period with restrictive measures, indicating lower sensitivity to population mobility and higher dependence on other emission sources. The findings suggest the justification for the use of traffic reduction strategies to improve air quality.

various compositional styles throughout his life. Starting as an
expressionist composer before the World War II, turning towards
neoclassicism during the occupation of Yugoslavia, socialist-realist
phase in the post-war years, embodied in neo-romantic tendencies, and
finally, with loosening of the socialist realist doctrine throughout the
1950s, re-claiming the expressionist tendencies on a more mature level.

TiO2 nanotubes film/FTO glass interface: Thermal treatment effects

AB  - Pure Ti films deposited by radio-frequency magnetron sputtering on FTO glass were anodized to fabricate TiO2 nanotubes (NTs) arrays. The TiO2 NTs/FTO samples were sintered at 450, 550 and 630°C, in ambient air. The thermal treatment did not influence the crystal phase composition, preserving in all cases the anatase single phase. As expected, the crystalline anatase quality improved with the annealing temperature. Nevertheless, slight differences in nanotubular morphology, such as the appearance of grains inside the walls, were observed in the case of the sample sintered at 630°C. Chemical analysis by X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy of annealed samples revealed the presence of Sn inside TiO2 NTs, due to diffusion of Sn from the substrate to TiO2. For the substrate was used FTO glass whose top layer consists of SnO2 doped with F. Rutherford Backscattering Spectrometry and Time-of-Flight Elastic Recoil Detection Analysis were carried out to study the elemental depth profile of the films. It was found that the temperature of sintering controls the Sn diffusion inside TiO2 film. Sn atoms diffuse towards the TiO2 NTs surface for the samples annealed at 450 and 550°C. The diffusion is however hindered in the case of the heat treatment at 630°C. Besides, the Ti diffusion into the SnO2 underlayer was observed, together with the formation of TiO2/SnO2 interfaces. One then expected but not a great difference in absorption between samples, since all contained anatase phase, as confirmed by Diffuse Reflectance Spectroscopy. A higher amount of Sn was however detected for the sample annealed at 550°C, which accounts for a slight red absorption shift. The importance of controlling the annealing parameters of the anodized TiO2/FTO structures was highlighted through the formation of TiO2-SnO2 interfaces and the Sn insertion from FTO, which can play an essential role in increasing the photoperformances of TiO2 NTs/FTO based structures of photovoltaic cells.

abstract = "Pure Ti films deposited by radio-frequency magnetron sputtering on FTO glass were anodized to fabricate TiO2 nanotubes (NTs) arrays. AB  - Layered vanadium oxides are, due to their adaptable interlayer distance and a multivalent state of vanadium, interesting electrode materials for various kinds of metal-ion batteries with both aqueous and nonaqueous electrolytes. In this study, a precursor solution adjusted for hydrothermal synthesis of sodium vanadate Na2V6O16, is modified by addition of carbon nanopowder Vulcan XC72, and this suspension is used for an one-pot hydrothermal synthesis of sodium vanadate/C composite. XRD analysis evidenced that the obtained composite is the mixture of two vanadate phases: Na2V6O16 and NaV6O15, instead of expected single-phase vanadate. SEM and TEM observations of composite revealed that these vanadate phases emerge in a form of both nanowires and nanospheres. The heterogeneity of phases and morphology of the composite is attributed to the directional action of carbon nanoparticles as a nucleation seed. The composite, used in aqueous Li-ion battery with LiFe0.95V0.05PO4/C cathode and LiNO3 electrolyte, displayed improved charge storage (220 mAh g−1 at current rate 150 mA g−1 in the initial discharge), after dc charging, in comparison to NaV6O15 or Na2V6O16 nanowire anodes. Furthermore, versatile insertion capability of this heterostructured composite towards mono (Li+, Na+) and multivalent (Ca2+, Mg2+, Al3+) ions in aqueous electrolytes is demonstrated by Cyclic Voltametry method, where the capacity stability depends on the type of cation, following the order Al3+, Li+, Mg2+, Ca2+. Upon 100 potentiodynamic chaging/discharging cycles, Ca2+ions display much better capacitance retention than Li+ ions (i.e., 64 vs. 13% of the initial value). The coinserted electrolyte constituents, H2O and OH− species, are considered to be responsible for the improved capacity retention, making vanadium ions less strained and less soluble. The pH, the concentration of the electrolyte and the type of anion are found to influence the cyclic behavior of observed vanadate composite in Ca-containing electrolyte. These results open a new directions in vanadate electrochemistry towards more sustainaible and cheaper aqueous batteries.

AB  - Chemically modified steroids have a long history as anti-neoplastic drugs. Incorporation of a lactone moiety in the steroid nucleus, as in previously obtained 3β-acetoxy-17-oxa-17a-homoandrost-5-en-16-one (A) and 3β-hidroxy-17-oxa-17a-homoandrost-5-en-16-one (B), often results in enhanced anticancer properties. In this work, chitosan-based (Ch) nanoparticles were created and loaded with potent anticancer steroidal compounds, A and B. Changes to hormone receptor binding and cytotoxicity were then measured. In agreement with our previous results for A and B, A- and B-loaded Ch displayed cytotoxic properties against cancer cell lines. Both A-Ch and B-Ch showed activity toward estrogen negative breast cancer (MDA-MB-231) and androgen negative prostate cancer cell lines (PC-3). Greater selectivity toward cancer cells versus healthy lung fibroblast (MRC-5) was observed for B-Ch particles. Cell viability and cytotoxicity measurements after a recovery period indicate more robust recovery of healthy cells versus malignant cells. Compounds A and B or their Ch-encapsulated forms were shown to have negligible affinity for the ligand binding domain of estrogen receptor β or the androgen receptor in a fluorescent yeast screen, suggesting a lack of estrogenicity and androgenicity. Steroid-loaded chitosan nanoparticles display strong cytotoxicity towards MDA-MB-231 and PC-3 with a lack of hormone activity, indicating their safety and efficacy.

AB  - Dense calcium phosphate-based ceramics were fabricated to be used as targets for pulsed laser deposition (PLD). Nanostructured cobalt-substituted hydroxyapatite (Co:HAP) was used as a starting powder. To vary phase composition and microstructure of targets, two sintering approaches were applied, conventional (CS) and two-step sintering (TSS). The obtained results show that in both cases biphasic calcium phosphate (BCP) ceramics (targets) were prepared, with slightly different HAP-to-β–TCP amount ratio and a significantly different microstructure. While the CS method yielded fully dense ceramics with an average grain size of 1.3 μm, the ceramics prepared by TSS had a density of 98.5%, with a predominant grain size below 100 nm. (Ca + Co)P coatings were prepared by PLD of (Ca + Co)P targets. The temperature of the Ti substrate was adjusted to be 25 and 500 °C. The results show that the phase composition of (Ca + Co)P coatings depended on the phase composition of targets as well as on the temperature of the Ti substrate. The coating prepared at 25 °C using CS target consisted of three calcium phosphate phases, HAP, β–TCP and α–TCP; when the TSS target was used, the coating was biphasic, containing HAP and β–TCP. When the substrate was heated to 500 °C, regardless of whether the CS or the TSS target was used, the deposited coatings were composed of HAP and α–TCP. Due to different phase compositions, the (Ca + Co)P coatings deposited at 25 °C showed an improved hardness compared to those deposited at 500 °C. The obtained results confirmed that the phase composition, morphology and mechanical properties of 0.3 μm thick (Ca + Co)P coatings on a Ti substrate can be tailored by employing (Ca + Co)P targets with different microstructures, and also by varying the temperature of the Ti substrate during deposition experiments.

AB  - The aim of this study was to investigate covalent immobilization of horseradish peroxidase (HRP) on magnetic nanoparticles (Mag) encapsulated in calcium alginate beads (MABs) for color degradation, combining easy and fast removal of biocatalyst from the reaction mixture due to its magnetic properties and strong binding due to surface alginate functional groups. MABs obtained by extrusion techniques were analyzed by optical microscopy, FEG-SEM and characterized regarding mechanical properties, magnetization and HRP binding. HRP with initial concentration of 10 mg/gcarrier was successfully covalently bonded on MABs (diameter ~1 mm, magnetite/alginate ratio 1:4), with protein loading of 8.9 mg/gcarrier, immobilization yield 96.9% and activity 32.8 U/g. Immobilized HRP on MABs (HRP-MABs) was then used to catalyze degradation of two anthraquinonic dyes, Acid Blue 225 (AB225) and Acid Violet 109 (AV109), as models for wastewater pollutants. HRP-MABs decolorized 77.3% and 76.1% of AV109 and AB225, respectively after 15 min under optimal conditions (0.097 mM H2O2, 200 mg of HRP-MABs (8.9 mg/gcarrier), 0.08 and 0.1 g/mg beads/dye ratio for AV109 and AB225, respectively). Biocatalyst was used for 7 repeated cycles retaining 75% and 51% of initial activity for AB225 and AV109, respectively, showing potential for use in large scale applications for colored wastewater treatment.

AB  - The rise of innovation in the electrical industry is driven by the controlled design of new materials. The hybrid materials based on magnetite/nanocellulose are highly interesting due to their various applications in medicine, ecology, catalysis and electronics. In this study, the structure and morphology of nanocellulose/magnetite hybrid nanomaterials were investigated. The effect of nanocellulose loading on the crystal structure of synthesized composites was investigated by XRD and FTIR methods. The presented study reveals that the interaction between the cellulose and magnetic nanoparticles depends on the nanocellulose content. Further, a transition from cellulose II to cellulose I allomorph is observed. SEM and EDS are employed to determine the variation in morphology with changes in component concentrations. By the calculation of magnetic interactions between adjacent Fe3+ and Fe2+ ions within composites, it is determined that ferromagnetic coupling predominates.

AB  - We present a combination of micromachined optofluidic platforms equipped with a fiber-optic sensing configuration based on a three-path Mach–Zehnder interferometer (MZI) for simultaneous measurement of the refractive index of liquids and the autocalibration in dynamic regime. The sensing principle is based on the low-coherence interferometry, characterized by a generation of Gaussian enveloped interferograms, for which the position of its maximum depends on the optical path difference (OPD) between the sensing and reference arm of the MZI. When liquid flows through the central microchannel of the optofluidic platform it crosses the light beam between the two optical fibers in the sensing arm causing the OPD change. An algorithm has been applied for the calculation of the refractive index of liquids out of the raw interference signals. We obtained a very good agreement between the experimental results and literature data of refractive indices of subjected fluids. The accuracy of refractive index measurement is approximately 1%, predominantly determined by the accuracy of reading the position of the mechanical scanner. The proposed sensor is attractive for the label-free biological, biochemical, and chemical sensing owing autocalibration and high sensitivity yet consuming a very small sample volume of 1 µL. It is capable to measure the refractive index of various liquids and/or gases simultaneously in the process.

AB  - Chemically modified steroids have a long history as anti-neoplastic drugs. Incorporation of a lactone moiety in the steroid nucleus, as in previously obtained 3β-acetoxy-17-oxa-17a-homoandrost-5-en-16-one (A) and 3β-hidroxy-17-oxa-17a-homoandrost-5-en-16-one (B), often results in enhanced anticancer properties. In this work, chitosan-based (Ch) nanoparticles were created and loaded with potent anticancer steroidal compounds, A and B. Changes to hormone receptor binding and cytotoxicity were then measured. In agreement with our previous results for A and B, A- and B-loaded Ch displayed cytotoxic properties against cancer cell lines. Both A-Ch and B-Ch showed activity toward estrogen negative breast cancer (MDA-MB-231) and androgen negative prostate cancer cell lines (PC-3). Greater selectivity toward cancer cells versus healthy lung fibroblast (MRC-5) was observed for B-Ch particles. Cell viability and cytotoxicity measurements after a recovery period indicate more robust recovery of healthy cells versus malignant cells. Compounds A and B or their Ch-encapsulated forms were shown to have negligible affinity for the ligand binding domain of estrogen receptor β or the androgen receptor in a fluorescent yeast screen, suggesting a lack of estrogenicity and androgenicity. Steroid-loaded chitosan nanoparticles display strong cytotoxicity towards MDA-MB-231 and PC-3 with a lack of hormone activity, indicating their safety and efficacy.

AB  - Dense calcium phosphate-based ceramics were fabricated to be used as targets for pulsed laser deposition (PLD). Nanostructured cobalt-substituted hydroxyapatite (Co:HAP) was used as a starting powder. To vary phase composition and microstructure of targets, two sintering approaches were applied, conventional (CS) and two-step sintering (TSS). The obtained results show that in both cases biphasic calcium phosphate (BCP) ceramics (targets) were prepared, with slightly different HAP-to-β–TCP amount ratio and a significantly different microstructure. While the CS method yielded fully dense ceramics with an average grain size of 1.3 μm, the ceramics prepared by TSS had a density of 98.5%, with a predominant grain size below 100 nm. (Ca + Co)P coatings were prepared by PLD of (Ca + Co)P targets. The temperature of the Ti substrate was adjusted to be 25 and 500 °C. The results show that the phase composition of (Ca + Co)P coatings depended on the phase composition of targets as well as on the temperature of the Ti substrate. The coating prepared at 25 °C using CS target consisted of three calcium phosphate phases, HAP, β–TCP and α–TCP; when the TSS target was used, the coating was biphasic, containing HAP and β–TCP. When the substrate was heated to 500 °C, regardless of whether the CS or the TSS target was used, the deposited coatings were composed of HAP and α–TCP. Due to different phase compositions, the (Ca + Co)P coatings deposited at 25 °C showed an improved hardness compared to those deposited at 500 °C. The obtained results confirmed that the phase composition, morphology and mechanical properties of 0.3 μm thick (Ca + Co)P coatings on a Ti substrate can be tailored by employing (Ca + Co)P targets with different microstructures, and also by varying the temperature of the Ti substrate during deposition experiments.

AB  - Immobilizing antifungal polyenes such as nystatin (Nys) and amphotericin B (AmB) into biodegradable formulations is advantageous compared to free drug administration providing sustained release, reduced dosing due to localized targeting and overall reduced systemic drug toxicity. In this study, we encapsulated Nys and AmB in medium chain length polyhydroxyalkanoates (mcl-PHA) microspheres (7–8 µm in diameter). The obtained formulations have been validated for antifungal activity in vitro against a panel of pathogenic fungi including species of Candida, Aspergillus, Microsporum and Trichophyton genera and toxicity and efficacy in vivo using the zebrafish model of disseminated candidiasis. While free polyenes, especially AmB, were highly toxic to zebrafish embryos at the effective (MIC) doses, after their loading into mcl-PHA microspheres, inner organ toxicity and teratogenicity associated with both drugs were not observed, even at 100 × MIC doses. The obtained mcl-PHA/polyene formulations have successfully eradicated C. albicans infection and showed an improved therapeutic profile in zebrafish by enhancing infected embryos survival. This approach is contributing to the antifungal arsenal as polyenes, although the first broad-spectrum antifungals on the market are still the gold standard for treatment of fungal infections.

AB  - Due to the growing number of people infected with the new coronavirus globally, which weakens immunity, there has been an increase in bacterial infections. Hence, knowledge about simple and low-cost synthesis methods of materials with good structural and antimicrobial properties is of great importance. A material obtained through the combination of a nanoscale hydroxyapatite material (with good biocompatibility) and titanium dioxide (with good degradation properties of organic molecules) can absorb and decompose bacteria. In this investigation, three different synthesis routes used to prepare hydroxyapatite/titanium dioxide nanomaterials are examined. The morphology and semiquantitative chemical composition are characterized by scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray analysis (SEM-EDX). The obtained materials’ phase and structural characterization are determined using the X-ray powder diffraction method (XRD). The crystallite sizes of the obtained materials are in the range of 8 nm to 15 nm. Based on XRD peak positions, the hexagonal hydroxyapatite phases are formed in all samples along with TiO2 anatase and rutile phases. According to SEM and TEM analyses, the morphology of the prepared samples differs depending on the synthesis route. The EDX analysis confirmed the presence of Ti, Ca, P, and O in the obtained materials. The IR spectroscopy verified the vibration bands characteristic for HAp and titanium. The investigated materials show excellent antimicrobial and photocatalytic properties.

abstract = "Due to the growing number of people infected with the new coronavirus globally, which weakens immunity, there has been an increase in bacterial infections. Hence, knowledge about simple and low-cost synthesis methods of materials with good structural and antimicrobial properties is of great importance. A material obtained through the combination of a nanoscale hydroxyapatite material (with good biocompatibility) and titanium dioxide (with good degradation properties of organic molecules) can absorb and decompose bacteria. In this investigation, three different synthesis routes used to prepare hydroxyapatite/titanium dioxide nanomaterials are examined. The morphology and semiquantitative chemical composition are characterized by scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray analysis (SEM-EDX). The obtained materials’ phase and structural characterization are determined using the X-ray powder diffraction method (XRD). The crystallite sizes of the obtained materials are in the range of 8 nm to 15 nm. Based on XRD peak positions, the hexagonal hydroxyapatite phases are formed in all samples along with TiO2 anatase and rutile phases. According to SEM and TEM analyses, the morphology of the prepared samples differs depending on the synthesis route. The EDX analysis confirmed the presence of Ti, Ca, P, and O in the obtained materials. The IR spectroscopy verified the vibration bands characteristic for HAp and titanium. The investigated materials show excellent antimicrobial and photocatalytic properties.",

AB  - Ultra-high temperature ceramics, such as ZrB2, are convenient for application in hypersonic systems due to melting point higher than 3000 °C and excellent ablation resistance. For such application further improvement by addition
of second phases, including SiC or CrB2, has additional benefits in domain of oxidation behavior, while TiB, doping reduces material's weight. A powder mixture of ZrB2, TiB2, CrB, and SiC was high energy ball-mill trough four steps. Obtained milled powder was subjected to hot pressing following different thermal cycles. Subsequent annealing was applied to remove oxide phases and reduce micro-cracking. Due to different thermal treatment, various microstructure and hardness occur. We reached fully dense ceramics, and with different oxide-phases content depending on sintering conditions. Maximal obtained hardness was 24 GPa. Ongoing activity regards the study of the strength and oxidation resistance to assess the suitability of this multi-phase system for hypersonic applications.

AB  - MgTiO3 is a material often used in different types of high-frequency capacitors, temperature compensating capacitors, and chip capacitors, so the enhancement of this material is still the focus of many research groups due to its remarkable dielectric properties. Outstanding features can only be achieved when the ceramics are highly dense. Densification of magnesium titanate by Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS) was the aim of this work. Magnesium titanate ceramics were prepared by applying mechanical activation as the first step. Powders prepared in this way were SPS sintered, at 1200 °C with a heating rate of 100 °C/min. After reaching the desired temperature, a uniaxial pressure of 50 MPa was applied. The dwell time at this condition was 5 min, followed by cooling to room temperature at 5°C/min. X-ray diffraction was performed in order to establish the phase composition of milled powders and obtained ceramics. Differences between samples milled in various times intervals, as well as sintered ceramics were examined by means of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). The presence of MgTiz0s phase was detected in XRD and was confirmed by EDS analysis for the non-milled ceramics. In the samples obtained from milled powders, no MgTi2O5 was detected in XRD patterns, but this phase was detected in EDS spectra in a lower amount. Dielectric measurements were performed at a wide range of frequencies, while the hardness of the SPS samples was measured at loads up to 10 N. The highest value of the hardness was obtained from powder milled for 15 min before SPS.

AB  - У српском језику постоји велики број придева који у одређеном значењу могу бити синоними придеву мршав. У раду се испитује полисемантичка
структура овог каритивног придева, као и могућност да се различити придеви,
који такође садрже сему ’недовољности’ употребе као његова алтернатива. У
анализи значења придева мршав полази се од ситуације у дескриптивним речницима српског језика. Циљ рада је да се укаже на богату семантичку разуђеност
придева мршав, као и на способност придевâ овог типа да се алтернативно употребљавају у одговарајућем контексту.
AB  - The paper examines the polysemantic structure of the charitable adjective mršav and
the possibility of using it as an alternative to other adjectives with the meaning of
insufficiency. All lexemes with the secondary meaning of scarcity can alternatively be
used to denote a wide range of phenomena, which is one of the most important features
of lexemes with a charitable meaning. Charitability can be expressed lexically (with
various adjectives and their derivatives), but also formatively, by adding different
prefixes to the adjective base. In the analysis of the meaning of the adjective mršav, we
started with the situation given in the descriptive dictionaries of the Serbian language.
The dominance of this adjective in denoting the properties of living beings of certain
bodily characteristics is also indicated by the non-existence of a true synonym, but
also by the large number of alternative adjectives that can replace it in the mentioned
meaning. Most of these alternative adjectives are marked with normative qualifiers
or are stylistically colored, so they are used in more expressive phrases concerning
the body structure of living beings. The large number of synonyms in the adjective’s
secondary meanings indicate it being a broad-meaning lexeme, which is used to
describe all kinds of shortcomings, indicating scarcity within different areas of reality.
The secondary meanings of the adjective mršav usually indicate an undesirable
property of the term, which is also true for many other polysemantic adjectives in the
Serbian language.

AB  - In this paper, we report the mild sonochemical synthesis of hexagonal (β) NaYF4:Yb,Er mesocrystals at low temperature of 40 °C. The nucleation and transformation of crystal structures is investigated in the course of time, and it is shown that the pure β phase is obtained after 2 h of pulsed sonication. The crystallization of orthorhombic YF3:Yb,Er and cubic (α) NaYF4:Yb,Er precedes the appearance of a thermodynamically stable β NaYF4:Yb,Er phase. Based on the evolution of the nanoparticle morphology, it is concluded that the transition from α to β phase is consistent with the dissolution-recrystallization process, while the final shape of mesocrystals is a consequence of the oriented attachment growth in the newly formed β phase nanocrystallites along two planes. The structural properties of all compounds are analyzed and correlated with their thermal and optical characteristics. The pump power dependence of green and red emissions confirms that only two-photon process is involved in up-conversion, which is superior in β phase mesocrystals.
