AB  - Предмет истраживања ове монографије су стари народни спортови, игре и надметања, присутни  на територији Србије, али и бивше Југославије. С обзиром на ограничени обим савремене литературе која проучава ову тему, циљ  израде монографије био је да се унапреди знање о старим народним 
спортовима и играма, омогући њихова адекватна презентација и представе прелиминарни резултати спроведених истраживања, како би се ово наслеђе из прошлости сачувало од заборава. Аутори дају осврт на појам и место старих народних спортова и игара у светским оквирима, као и на њихов значај за простор бивше СФР Југославије и конкретно Србије. Резултати спроведеног истраживања на терену, које је обухватило анкетно истраживање и организацију фокус групе, такође су презентовани. Посебан део текста посвећен је опису и представљању појединих спортова и игара који су некада били широко заступљени у нашој и земљама региона, док су данас у потпуности ишчезли или се практикују у врло ограниченом обиму.

The Bulgarian Elite between War and Peace in the Balkans

AB  - Leo the Deacon, a contemporary of the Rus’-Byzantine war for Bulgaria of 970–971, described the triumph of John I Tzimiskes (969–976) in Bulgaria as unexpected: the laying of the crown of the Bulgarian tsars–for centuries the staunchest enemies of Byzantium in the Balkans–on the altar of Hagia Sophia heralded a new chapter in the Empire’s history. Byzantium’s penetration into the Balkans at least seemingly found a foothold in the military organization and reform reported in the Taktikon Escorial. The old frontier strip in the Balkans was reorganized, leading to an increase in the number of strategides and the creation of tagmatic command centers headed by doukai / katepano in Thessalonike and Adrianople. At the same time, the territories taken from Bulgaria, primarily in its northwestern part, were restructured according to the same principle: strategoi and garrisons were stationed in the captured Bulgarian cities and fortresses. The Danube frontier was established, and a tagmatic center headed by the katepano of Mesopotamia (for the West) was formed in the Danube delta. A surviving seal allows us to assume that a military center of the same rank existed in the western Balkans, in the Ras fortress (katepano of Ras).  Byzantium’s work on the military organization of the newly-conquered territories is also attested by the seals.

AB  - Dual phase high entropy ceramics are attractive due to potential synergetic effects of the constituents on mechanical properties and thermal stability. In this research, dense, dual phase (Hf,Mo,Ti,W,Z) B2-(Hf.Mo.Ti.W,Zr)C powder was synthesized by varying the contents of the transition metals in the final product. The co-synthesis method was used to obtain boride and carbide constituents by boro/ carbothermal reduction of mixtures of oxides and appropriate amounts of carbon black and B4C. Solid solution formation and densification of the reacted powders were done utilizing two step spark plasma sintering or hot pressing processes. Phase compositions of the produced ceramics were identified by x-ray diffraction while chemical compositions were measured using energy dispersive spectroscopy. The final microstructures showed submicron grains due to pining effect of the two phases. Investigation of the mechanical properties showed increasing in Vickers hardness values s up to 48.6 2.2 GPa for applied load of 0.49N for compositions with optimized elemental contents. Room temperature strength was also measured.

AB  - This paper presents two classes of integer codes that are suitable for use in local area networks. The first class of codes can correct h-bit burst errors within one b-bit byte and detect l-bit burst errors within one b-bit byte (1 ≤ h < l < b), while the second class of codes, in addition to correcting/detecting the mentioned types of errors, can also detect d-bit burst errors within two b-bit bytes (1 ≤ d < b). Both classes of codes are defined over integer rings and are generated by computer search. To evaluate the performance of both classes of codes, we analyze their probabilities of incorrect decoding for binary symmetric and bursty channel.

Spark plasma sintering of magnesium titanate ceramics

AB  - Magnesium titanate ceramics were prepared by reactive spark plasma sintering (SPS) at 1200 °C for 5 min. Prior to sintering, MgO and TiO2 powders were mixed by high energy ball milling (HEBM) for 15, 30, or 60 min. The effect of milling time on phase composition was analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) for milled powders and sintered specimens. The morphology of the sintered ceramics was investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), while elemental distribution was determined by energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). The presence of the MgTi2O5 phase was detected in XRD and was confirmed by EDS analysis. Microcracking was observed for specimens prepared with longer milling times and attributed to the coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) mismatch dominantly due to the anisotropic crystal structure of MgTiO3 phase. The sample milled for 15 min showed the highest Vickers hardness due to less or no microcracking and nearly full density. The dielectric measurements in the range of 10 Hz–250 MHz demonstrated extremely high dielectric permittivity, as high as 104 at 1 kHz. An increase in loss tangents was observed due to oxygen vacancy formation, which was promoted by the vacuum environment during SPS. Oxygen vacancy-related dielectric relaxation was also detected and explained.

High-fidelity 3D microstructural characterization of ZrB2 during hot-pressing (Invited)

AB  - Standard ultra-high temperature ceramic (UHTC) manufacturing results in components with large differences in properties due to variability in microstructural “critical flaw” distributions. Critical flaws can be any irregularity in a component, such as a secondary phase, cracks, pores, etc. This is problematic when designing reproducible UHTC components. The goal of this project is to understand how these critical flaws evolve during hot pressing of ZrB2 (a UHTC) by examining them in 3D. This study incorporates 3D imaging such as (i) preliminary in-situ high-temperature pressureless sintering X-ray µ-CT, (ii) ex-situ X-ray µ-CT, and (iii) 3D electron imaging and backscattered diffraction data collected at different stages of densification. 3D microstructure statistics along with unique observations of individual pore and secondary phase evolution will be presented. This data is brought together to give a holistic view of the densification of ZrB2 during hot pressing at multiple length scales. This data will be incorporated into a process-structure-property (PSP) database for statistical modeling to reduce uncertainty during ZrB2 processing.

abstract = "Standard ultra-high temperature ceramic (UHTC) manufacturing results in components with large differences in properties due to variability in microstructural “critical flaw” distributions. Critical flaws can be any irregularity in a component, such as a secondary phase, cracks, pores, etc. This is problematic when designing reproducible UHTC components. The goal of this project is to understand how these critical flaws evolve during hot pressing of ZrB2 (a UHTC) by examining them in 3D. This study incorporates 3D imaging such as (i) preliminary in-situ high-temperature pressureless sintering X-ray µ-CT, (ii) ex-situ X-ray µ-CT, and (iii) 3D electron imaging and backscattered diffraction data collected at different stages of densification. 3D microstructure statistics along with unique observations of individual pore and secondary phase evolution will be presented. This data is brought together to give a holistic view of the densification of ZrB2 during hot pressing at multiple length scales. This data will be incorporated into a process-structure-property (PSP) database for statistical modeling to reduce uncertainty during ZrB2 processing.",

Modeling of Impurities Evaporation Reaction Order in Aluminum Alloys by the Parametric Fitting of the Logistic Function

AB  - Advancements in computer capabilities enable predicting process outcomes that earlier could only be assessed after post-process analyses. In aerospace and automotive industries it is important to predict parts properties before their formation from liquid alloys. In this work, the logistic function was used to predict the evaporation rates of the most detrimental impurities, if the temperature of the liquid aluminum alloy was known. Then, parameters of the logistic function were used to determine the transition points where the reaction order was changing. Samples were heated to 610 °C, 660 °C, 710 °C, and 760 °C for one hour, after which the chemical analyses were performed and evaporation rates were calculated for Cd, Hg, Pb and Zn elements. The pressure inside the encapsulated area was maintained at 0.97 kPa. Whereas parameters that define the evaporation rate increase with the temperature increase, the maximum evaporation rates were deduced from the experimental data and fitted into the logistic function. The elemental evaporation in liquid-aluminum alloys is the best defined by the logistic function, since transitions from the first to zero-order-governed evaporation reactions have nonsymmetrical evaporation rate slopes between the lowest and the highest evaporation rate point.

AB  - У раду се предлажу преводилачка решења на савременом српском језику за поједине лексеме из Службе Светом краљу Милутину на црквенословенском језику руске редакције. Најпре су наведени принципи превођења богослужбених текстова уопштена савремени српски језик, као и основни подаци о оригиналној Служби Светом краљу Милутину на  српскословенском језику. За сваки од размотрених преводних еквивалената лексичких  јединица на језику извору даје се објашњење због чега  се сматрају добрим решењем у конкретним контекстима у језику циљу. Крајњи циљ рада јесте да се обрађеним  релевантним лексичким материјалом  допринесе  што  бољем преводудате службе на  савремени српски језик, а за богослужбену употребу. Потенцијални додатни циљ јесте и да се поједине лексеме из пасивног лексичког фонда савременог српског језика активирају у истом, бар у овом, химнографском жанру.
AB  - В статье предлагаются  соответствующие  переводные  эквиваленты  на современном сербском языке некоторых лексем из Службы святому кралю Милютинуна  (русско)церковнославянском языке. Сначала перечисляются принципы перевода богослужебных текстов в целом. Для каждого из рассматриваемых  переводных эквивалентов лексических единиц в исходном языке (Ј1)дается объяснение, почему они считаются хорошим решением  на  языке  перевода (Ј2) в конкретных контекстах. Конечной целью статьи является получение лексического материала для качественного перевода Службы святому кралю Милютинуна современный сербский язык, являющийся языком богослужебного употребления с 1964 года вместе с церковнославянским.

Mythological Notions of the Deceased among the Slavic Peoples

AB  - Many taboos and a high resistance to change are the hallmark of posthumous rituals and customs among all Slavic peoples, which has helped maintain their archaic nature. According to Slavic beliefs, in the otherworld, the souls of the deceased who were kind-hearted during their lifetime join the group of their ancestors who guard the living, providing them with prosperity and fertility. In return, living descendants had an obligation to periodically organize commemorations for the deceased, invoke memories of them, and make (food) offerings meant for the salvation of their souls. On the other hand, Slavs believed that the deceased who died prematurely or violently, or those who were dishonourable throughout their lives, became “the revenant deceased” or “the impure deceased” and could bring harm, sickness, and death to the living. For these reasons, people tended to prepare all of the dead—particularly the ones whose souls could potentially become members of the “impure” group—adequately for the funeral and to see their souls off from this world following traditional rites. This research is based on the presupposition that, among folk beliefs, customs, and rituals regarding the deceased (and their souls), there is a substratum whose archaic nature reaches back to the period when Slavic peoples lived together. These are folk beliefs and customs which appear in all three groups of Slavic peoples but are not related to any of the predominant religions, primarily Christianity, nor did they emerge under the influences of those religions. The sources used in the research include a published ethnographic corpus of data and scientific papers on posthumous rites among the Slavs. Also taken into account were archaeological, historical, and linguistic sources.

AB  - Recovering the bioactive components from pomegranate peel (PP) in the fruit-processing industry has attracted great attention in terms of minimizing the waste burden, as well as providing a new source of a multitude of functional compounds. The present study aimed to develop a feasible microencapsulation process of PP extract by using pectin and a pectin/2-hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin (HP-β-CD) blend as coating materials. Microsized powders obtained by a spray drying technique were examined in terms of technological characteristics, exhibiting high powder yield and desirable moisture content, flowability, and cohesive properties. Assuming that the interactions with the used biopolymers occur on the surface hydrophobic domain, their presence significantly improved the thermal stability of the microencapsulated powders up to 200 °C. The health-promoting effects of PP have been associated with its high content in ellagitannins, particularly punicalagin. The obtained PP powders exhibited strong antioxidant and hypoglycemic potential, while an antimicrobial assay revealed their potent activity against Gram-positive bacteria. Additionally, an in vitro release study suggested that the used biopolymers can modify the release of target bioactive compounds, thus establishing a basis for developing an oral-controlled release system. Altogether, biowaste valorization from PP by the production of effective multifunctional microsized powders represents a sustainable way to obtain novel nutraceuticals and/or pharmaceuticals.

AB  - The need for improved functionalities in extreme environments is fuelling interest in high-entropy ceramics1,2,3. Except for the computational discovery of high-entropy carbides, performed with the entropy-forming-ability descriptor4, most innovation has been slowly driven by experimental means1,2,3. Hence, advancement in the field needs more theoretical contributions. Here we introduce disordered enthalpy–entropy descriptor (DEED), a descriptor that captures the balance between entropy gains and enthalpy costs, allowing the correct classification of functional synthesizability of multicomponent ceramics, regardless of chemistry and structure. To make our calculations possible, we have developed a convolutional algorithm that drastically reduces computational resources. Moreover, DEED guides the experimental discovery of new single-phase high-entropy carbonitrides and borides. This work, integrated into the AFLOW computational ecosystem, provides an array of potential new candidates, ripe for experimental discoveries.

CA and/or EDTA functionalized magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles by oxidative precipitation from FeCl2 solution: structural and magnetic study

AB  - Four samples containing magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (MIONs) of various sizes are prepared employing a simple low-temperature method of oxidative precipitation from FeCl2∙4H2O-NaOH-NaNO3 aqueous solution. For the preparation of two samples, the usual oxidation-precipitation synthesis protocol is modified by using ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) chelating agent as a stabilizer of the Fe2+ ions in a solution, which results in the partial capping of the prepared MIONs with EDTA molecules. Three out of four samples are subjected to citric acid (CA) functionalization in the post synthesis protocol. Structural and magnetic properties of the synthesized MIONs are assessed using various experimental techniques (XRD, TEM, Fourier transform infrared, dynamic light scattering, Mössbauer, and SQUID). The average size of spherical-like MIONs is tuned from 7 nm to 38 nm by changing the synthesis protocol. Their room temperature saturation magnetization, M s, is in the range of 43 to 91 emu g−1. Magnetic heating ability, expressed via specific absorption rate value, which ranges from 139 to 390 W/gFe, is discussed in relation to their structural and magnetic properties and the possible energy dissipation mechanisms involved. The best heating performance is exhibited by the sample decorated with EDTA and with a bimodal size distribution with average particle sizes of 14 and 37 nm and M s = 87 emu g−1. Though this sample contains particles prone to form aggregates, capping with EDTA provides good colloidal stability of this sample, thus preserving the magnetic heating ability. It is demonstrated that two samples, consisting of 7 nm-sized CA- or 14 nm-sized EDTA/CA-functionalized superparamagnetic MIONs, with a similar hydrodynamic radius, heat in a very similar way in the relatively fast oscillating alternating current magnetic field, f = 577 kHz.

Application of FES in early phases of rehabilitation (acute and sub-acute) has a carry-over effect in decreasing motor impairment. FES is applied to the peripheral nervous system to activate the nerves and muscles, generate functional movements, and activate efferent and afferent neural pathways to close the biological motor-sensory loop. This promotes brain plasticity, the most important mechanism in rehabilitation after brain injuries. In the case of Spinal Cord Injuries (SCI), the functional recovery is less pronounced; however, the influence on the reduction of secondary complications of paralysis (e.g., loss of muscle bulk and strength, pressure sores, cardio-vascular deterioration, diminished gastric and urinary functioning, spasticity, reduced range of movement in joints, etc.) is pronounced. The most common applications of non-invasive FES are the restoration of standing and walking, the generation of cyclic movements for pedaling or rowing, and manipulation and grasping.

AB  - In the present paper, the effects of metal ion implantation on the structural and optical properties of TiN thin films have been investigated. TiN films of 170 nm thickness were grown by d.c. reactive sputtering on Si (100) wafers and then irradiated at 5 × 1016 ions/cm2 with either Au, Ag, or Cu ions by using two different energies per each implanted metal. The results showed that as deposited TiN crystallizes in the form of a fcc cubic structure, with the crystallites preferentially oriented along the (111) plane. For all implanted layers, the cubic structure was preserved, but compared to as deposited TiN the crystallites were smaller and the lattice was contracted. These changes were correlated with the depth distribution of Au, Ag and Cu ions and assigned to implantation-induced damage that was larger when higher ion energies were used. High-resolution XPS spectra of the surface of as deposited sample showed the coexistence of TiN, TiO2 and TiOxNy phases and this was related to the surface oxidation of the films due to the exposure to air. After implantation, the results were almost similar for all metals, showing an increase in TiO2 contribution and the formation of pure metallic Au and Ag phases, while copper is in the Cu2+ state, which is attributed to Cu(II)-oxide and Cu(OH)2. The microstructural characteristics including defect formation, changes in crystallite size and lattice contraction, and also growth of different metallic phases during implantations were correlated with the findings of the optical characterization of the implanted films. For the as deposited film we found an energy gap of 2.91 eV, which was lower than the value typical for TiN. After implantation the gap was shifted to higher energies, while at the visible part of the region, the existence of additional energy levels, at photon energies below 2.9 eV was observed. Besides, all implanted films showed degraded photocatalytic activity compared to as deposited TiN, among which Cu-implanted samples exhibited the best photocatalytic performances. The lower photocatalytic activity of Au and Ag implanted films compared to Cu implantations was ascribed to larger structural defects and the formation of less favorable electronic states.

AB  - Y0.8−xGdxF3:Yb/Er mesocrystals with a biocompatible surface and diverse morphological characteristics were successfully synthesized using chitosan-assisted solvothermal processing. Their structural properties, studied using X-ray powder diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning and transmission electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray analysis, were further correlated with the up-conversion emission (λexc = 976 nm) recorded in function of temperature. Based on the change in the visible green emissions originating from the thermally coupled 2H11/2 and 4S3/2 levels of Er3+, the corresponding LIR was acquired in the physiologically relevant range of temperatures (25–50 °C). The detected absolute sensitivity of about 0.0042 °C−1, along with the low cytotoxicity toward both normal human lung fibroblasts (MRC-5) and cancerous lung epithelial (A549) cells, indicate a potential for use in temperature sensing in biomedicine. Additionally, their enhanced internalization in cells, without suppression of cell viability, enabled in vitro labeling of cancer and healthy cells upon 976 nm laser irradiation.

AB  - The recovery from the Second World War brought significant changes and the implementation of socialist ideology in Yugoslavia that went in parallel with the emancipation of women. This is particularly noticeable in the rise of women with university education and their enrolment in various occupations, such as construction engineering and architecture. The increased interest in pursuing architectural education among women has been rising since the 1950s, when they already represented 46% of total students at Belgrade University. The rebuilding of the country meant great urbanistic and architectural projects, with radical reconstruction and reconceptualization of cities and public spaces. Young female architects embraced an opportunity to be equally involved and active in urban development. Their roles and impacts were diverse: they held positions within planning institutes, architectural bureaus, and public offices in urbanism and construction; furthermore, they were responsible engineers at the construction sites; and they became teachers and educators for the new generations of architects and civil engineers. They worked individually, in pairs, and in teams, demonstrating the ability to be actively and equally involved in the profession in every possible aspect and domain. The research positions their roles and contributions within the broader framework of the process of female emancipation in socialist Yugoslavia, focusing on three remarkable architects engaged in the postwar reconstruction of Novi Sad: Julka Majtan, Tatjana Vanjifatov Savić, and Milena Đorđević.

AB  - Ово излагање биће посвећено роману  Кирка (2018) Маделин Милер који представља не само пример рецепције Одисеје и других античких митова о Кирки, већ и њихових познијих верзија и рецепција. Роман даје глас озлоглашеној чаробници кроз чију причу се проблематизују бројне историјске али и савремене теме ‒ друштвене хијерархије, неједнакости и потчињености, насиља и рата, породичних односа (комодификације женског тела и сексуалности, али и односа родитеља према деци). Прича о Кирки, Одисеју и његовим пратиоцима испричана је из женског угла, као исповест личности са маргине и може се ставити у контекст феминистичке праксе ревизије митова. 
Свет богова, нарочито интересантан и важан за Хомерове епове (које одликује непрекидно преплитање божанског и људског плана), је сегмент коме је ауторка посветила посебну пажњу, помно описујући односе међу боговима, али и њихов изглед и понашање, као и утицај на људе пружајући комплексну слику, засновану на добром познавању споменутих епова и других грчких митова о Кирки. Роман представља пример рецепције антке који почива на темељном познавању не само грчких митова, већ и грчке историје, свакодневице и књижевности, па и појединих академских проблема кроз фикцију, у узбудљивом роману који се истовремно бави савременим темама.

AB  - This paper represents an autoethnographic account of dog walking in a 
residential area of downtown Belgrade during the COVID-19 lockdown of early 
2020. It is also an attempt at, or rather, the result, of the largely experimental 
practice of canine-assisted ethnography, as my dogs Dita and Ripley were 
instrumental during fieldwork. The lockdown, with its ill-thought-out and 
constantly changing rules about dog walking underlined three basic issues: 
1) in a city with a huge dog owning population, public policy with regard to 
this issue is virtually non-existent; 2) the city lacks public green spaces, and 
3) the movement patterns of dog walkers tend to converge due to the fact 
that the needs of the canines (both biological and social) are embedded into 
the architecture and planning of local neighborhoods. In this sense, the city 
emerges as a multispecies space, and the social patterns and walking routes of 
its residents who keep dogs are influenced, if not completely determined by the 
human-animal bond at play. This became especially visible during lockdown at 
times when dog walkers were the only people allowed outside. Thus, this paper 
analyzes how interspecies (in this case human-dog) relationships shape the 
functions of urban space in Belgrade.
AB  - Овај рад представља аутоетнографско сведочанство о шетању паса у стамбеном крају центра Београда током затварања грађана услед пандемије 
ковида 19 почетком 2020. године. Он је такође и покушај, или пре резултат за сада махом експерименталне праксе обављања етнографије уз помоћ паса, будући да су моји пси Дита и Рипли били кључни за обављање 
теренског истраживања. Затварање, које је било окарактерисано лошим 
планирањем и правилима у вези са шетањем љубимаца а која су се стално мењала, скренуло је пажњу на три основна проблема: 1) у граду у којем 
велики део популације чува псе јавне политике у вези са овим готово 
уопште не постоје; 2) у граду фали јавних зелених површина, и 3) обрасци кретања шетача паса имају тенденцију да конвергирају услед потреба 
(како биолошких тако и друштвених) паса и ушанчени су у архитектуру и 
планирање града на локалном нивоу. Због тога, град се помаља као мултиспецијски простор, а друштвени обрасци и руте кретања његових становника који имају псе бивају обликовани, ако не и потпуно одређени, везом 
између људи и животиња о којој је реч. Ово је постало посебно видљиво 
током затварања у време када су шетачи паса били једини људи којима 
је било дозвољено да буду на улици. Стога, у овом раду се анализира како интерспецијски односи (у овом случају између људи и паса) обликују 
функције урбаног простора у Београду

functions of urban space in Belgrade., Овај рад представља аутоетнографско сведочанство о шетању паса у стамбеном крају центра Београда током затварања грађана услед пандемије 
ковида 19 почетком 2020. године. Он је такође и покушај, или пре резултат за сада махом експерименталне праксе обављања етнографије уз помоћ паса, будући да су моји пси Дита и Рипли били кључни за обављање 
теренског истраживања. Затварање, које је било окарактерисано лошим 
планирањем и правилима у вези са шетањем љубимаца а која су се стално мењала, скренуло је пажњу на три основна проблема: 1) у граду у којем 
велики део популације чува псе јавне политике у вези са овим готово 
уопште не постоје; 2) у граду фали јавних зелених површина, и 3) обрасци кретања шетача паса имају тенденцију да конвергирају услед потреба 
(како биолошких тако и друштвених) паса и ушанчени су у архитектуру и 
планирање града на локалном нивоу. Због тога, град се помаља као мултиспецијски простор, а друштвени обрасци и руте кретања његових становника који имају псе бивају обликовани, ако не и потпуно одређени, везом 
између људи и животиња о којој је реч. Ово је постало посебно видљиво 
током затварања у време када су шетачи паса били једини људи којима 
је било дозвољено да буду на улици. Стога, у овом раду се анализира како интерспецијски односи (у овом случају између људи и паса) обликују 
функције урбаног простора у Београду",

AB  - This paper represents a largely autoethnographic account of how the World
Wide Web has changed overthe last, roughly, ten years, from the perspective
of a digital native who also happens to be an anthropologist. It is a kind of
freeze frame of the current state of affairs online that aims to point out
how the revolutionary dream of Web 2.0 was hijacked for corporate profit
through the monetization of user data. It considers concerns about privacy
and surveillance as well as some of the bodily aspects of the relationship
between humans and technology, and ultimately offers some suggestions
for a way out of our current predicament.
AB  - Ovaj rad predstavlja mahom autoetnografski prikaz promena kroz koje je
World Wide Web prošao u poslednjih, ugrubo, deset godina, iz perspe-
ctive digitalne domorotkinje koja je igrom slučaja i antropološkinja. On je zamrznuti isečak trenutnog stanja stvari online koji za cilj ima da ukase
na to kako je revolucionarni san Web-a 2.0 kooptiran zarad korporativnog

profita kroz monetizaciju korisničkih podataka. U radu se razmatraju pro-
blem privatnosti i nadzora, kao i neki telesni aspekti odnosa između ljudi i

The Motif of the “Lost Paradise” in Blockbuster Films Set in the Post-Apocalypse

AB  - Considering that mythology and storytelling are an integral part of the human 
experience, in this paper we will take a look at contemporary iterations of 
certain archetypal myths. While the authors do not espouse the idea that 
“science fiction is the mythology of modern society”, we believe that there 
is something to be said about popular culture as a medium of narrative 
transmission in post-industrialist society. In this sense, the paper analyses 
the utilization of origin myths in post-apocalyptic science fiction movies:
Waterworld (1995), The Matrix franchise (four installments 1999–2021), 
Wall-E (2008), the Mad Max franchise (four installments 1979–2015), among 
others. Common to all of these narratives is that they are set after a global 
catastrophe that frames the “Earth before” as a paradise that was lost due to 
human agency. Some of these narratives also feature a search for the remnants 
of that lost world (most notably Waterworld and Mad Max: Fury Road), as 
well as “lesser” origin myths that pertain to groups of survivors themselves (e.g. Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome). In the context of current debates on 
the Anthropocene, an era rapidly leading towards a global catastrophe, and 
following Donna Haraway’s work on storytelling, we believe that the act of 
telling these stories, and the ways in which they are told is of vital importance 
if we, as a species, are to survive. Furthermore, post-apocalyptic science fiction 
offers not only a warning but also possible outcomes exemplified through 
new, emerging and different naturecultures. These naturecultures range from 
the emergence of new and better adept bodies of a minority (which triggers 
stigma), to bodies which are increasingly dependent on other actants, e.g., AI. 
We argue that within the genre of science fiction these novel postapocalyptic 
naturecultures are framed as imperfect, and that such framing strengthens 
the myth of Earth before the apocalypse as a lost paradise. Consequently, 
posthumanist bodies are seen in a Biblical manner as bodies “after the Fall”, 
rather than as bodies which have not only the potential to survive but also to 
prevent the catastrophe.
AB  - Будући да су митологија и приповедање интегрални део људског искуства, у овом раду ћемо се позабавити савременим итерацијама одређених архетипских митова. Иако аутори не прихватају у потпуности идеју 
да је „научна фантастика митологија модерног друштва“, мислимо да је у 
антрополошким проучавањима важно узети у обзир популарну културу 
као медиј трансмисије наратива у постиндустријском друштву. У складу 
са тим, у овом раду ћемо анализирати коришћење митова о пореклу у 
научнофантастичним филмовима на тему постапокалипсе: Waterworld
(1995), The Matrix франшизи (четири наставка 1999–2021), Wall-E (2008), 
и Mad Max франшизи (четири наставка 1979–2015), између осталих. 
Заједничко за све ове наративе је да је радња смештена након глобалне катастрофе која „Земљу некада“ представља као рај који је изгубљен 
услед људског деловања. Неки од ових наратива такође укључују потрагу за остацима тог изгубљеног света (нарочито Waterworld и Mad Max: 
Fury Road), као и „мање“ митове о пореклу који се односе на одређене 
групе преживелих (нпр. Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome). У контексту савремених дебата о Антропоцену, ери која убрзано води ка глобалној катастрофи, и следећи радове Доне Харавеј о приповедању, верујемо да су чинови причања оваквих прича, и начини на које се оне причају од 
животне важности ако, као врста, мислимо да преживимо. Надаље, постапокалиптични СФ нуди не само упозорење већ и могућа разрешења 
ситуације на примерима нових, различитих природакултура које се помаљају. Ове природакултуре варирају – од настанка нових и боље прилагођених тела мањине (што изазива стигму), до тела која све више зависе 
од различитих актаната, нпр. вештачке интелигенције. Сматрамо да су 
у оквиру жанра научне фантастике ове нове постапокалиптичне природакултуре представљене као несавршене, а да овакво представљање 
оснажује мит о Земљи пре апокалипсе као изгубљеном рају. Сходно томе, постхумана тела су виђена кроз библијску призму као тела „након 
Пада“, а не као тела која не само да имају потенцијал да преживе већ и 
да спрече катастрофу.
