AB - This study has analyzed the traffic-related change in atmospheric pollutants levels (PM2.5, PM10, CO, NO2, SO2, and O3) caused by the COVID-19 restrictive measures, based on traffic ground-based stations data in urban areas in Serbia. The possible influence of several meteorological factors (temperature, wind, pressure, and humidity), and mobility on the pollutants’ levels were also considered. The obtained results showed a positive correlation of daily NO2 concentrations with mobility and its significant reduction during restrictive measures at all selected monitoring stations. The reduction of NO2 was higher than in other countries (71.1–111.5% for measured, and 49.3–92.6% for ‘deweathered’ data), indicating a high traffic impact on NO2 levels in Serbia. The PM, CO, and SO2 showed a weak correlation with mobility during the period with restrictive measures, which, besides traffic, indicates the significant influence of other sources of their concentration. The O3 concentrations were increased at all measuring stations and are negatively correlated to mobility. Comparison of pollutant concentrations during restriction with the equivalent period in preceding years showed reductions in NO2 and SO2 concentrations. However, compared to previous years, the concentrations of PM2.5, PM10, and CO increased in the period with restrictive measures, indicating lower sensitivity to population mobility and higher dependence on other emission sources. The findings suggest the justification for the use of traffic reduction strategies to improve air quality.

AB - Serbian composer Stanojlo Rajičić (1910–2000) has changed
various compositional styles throughout his life. Starting as an
expressionist composer before the World War II, turning towards
neoclassicism during the occupation of Yugoslavia, socialist-realist
phase in the post-war years, embodied in neo-romantic tendencies, and
finally, with loosening of the socialist realist doctrine throughout the
1950s, re-claiming the expressionist tendencies on a more mature level.

AB - The article investigates the connection between the early record industry and the development of copyright legislation in Croatia and the former Yugoslavia between 1929 and the 1960s. Special attention is given to the topic of the implementation of copyright and the related rights within domestic record production in the selected period. The concept of the author, partly constructed through the implementation of copyright, is then reconsidered in the example of early Yugoslavian popular music.

When The Curtain Falls: The Sustainability of Incidental Music

AB - Starting with the idea that sustainability as a concept can (and should) be applied in the field of incidental music, thus, ensuring the continuation of its life after the curtain falls, we argue that discography is one of the main ways in which incidental music (like any other type of music) can be preserved and later studied. We argue that discography (as a sustainability tool) equals the survival (survivability) of incidental music and test this hypothesis on four case studies – compact discs and releases of incidental music of four composers: Vojislav Voki Kostić, Zoran Erić, Zoran Simjanović and Isidora Žebeljan.

Between Tradition and Subversion. Treatment of Folklorised Musical References in the Early Feature Films of Pedro Almodóvar

Buljančević, Rastko

TY - JOUR
AU - Buljančević, Rastko
PY - 2022
UR - https://dais.sanu.ac.rs/123456789/13052
AB - The subject of this paper is the unconventional and highly subversive treatment of musical material of folkloric origin in the films of Pedro Almodóvar: Pepi, Luci, Bom and Other Girls on the Heap (Pepi, Luci, Bom y otras chicas del montón, 1980) and Labyrinth of Passion (Laberinto de pasiones, 1982). These films are representative examples of the director’s experimental artistic poetics based on the interweaving of local and global cultural features. The focus is, therefore, on the folkloric elements of the Spanish and Catalan musical tradition and their transformation and recontextualisation in relation to the socio-political reality of post-fascist Spain. Consequently, well-known theatrical musical pieces and dances such as the pasodoble, zarzuela and sardana acquire transgressive qualities through an unusual play with traditional and postmodern signifiers, aimed at overthrowing conservative patriarchal authority under the Francoist regime.

abstract = "The subject of this paper is the unconventional and highly subversive treatment of musical material of folkloric origin in the films of Pedro Almodóvar: Pepi, Luci, Bom and Other Girls on the Heap (Pepi, Luci, Bom y otras chicas del montón, 1980) and Labyrinth of Passion (Laberinto de pasiones, 1982). Consequently, well-known theatrical musical pieces and dances such as the pasodoble, zarzuela and sardana acquire transgressive qualities through an unusual play with traditional and postmodern signifiers, aimed at overthrowing conservative patriarchal authority under the Francoist regime.,
AB - A significant part of the Radio Belgrade programme, especially in the years before the establishment of instrumental and choral ensembles within this institution, was comprised of music recordings. Although gramophone record concerts were presented within the programme announcements, they were not considered in more detail in existing studies of music on Radio Belgrade. One of the reasons for this could be limited access to the data on the gramophone record concerts. Thus, for the first analysis of this segment of the music programme, the author
has focused on the first year in which weekly radio programme announcements were printed in Radio Beograd: nedeljni ilustrovani časopis. The announcements contained data about music numbers, recordings companies, and serial numbers of the records played. More precisely, the series of His Master’s Voice concerts, named after the label of records exclusively broadcast in the programme, were examined in the period from October 1930 to October 1931. This particular series was chosen because of the importance of the label in both the global and local music
industry and the continual broadcasted of His Master’s Voice records on Radio Belgrade. Furthermore, the diversity of programme conceptions of concerts within the series indicates the particular ways in which gramophone record concerts were designed. Based on the series of His Master’s Voice concerts, three methods of categorising gramophone record concerts are suggested. In addition, the paper offers little known archival data on gramophone record distributors who borrowed records to Radio Belgrade for marketing purposes.

AB - The study of gramophone records is important when acquainting oneself with Mijat Mijatović (1887–1937), who strongly impacted so-called folk music in the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes / Yugoslavia, considering the importance of the records he released during his career. His opus of commercial recordings is the largest of the interwar period in the area and, therefore, it is highly indicative when considering the correlation between the early music industry and ‘local’
culture as a glocal topic. In this study we present numerous sources and a complex critical analysis that resulted in Mijatović’s discography. Special attention has been paid to record companies, the chronology of recordings, the repertoire and collaborating musicians, thus mapping the potential of discography for the study of recorded music and cultural history.

AB - The earliest surviving sound evidence of music and musicians from Bulgaria is on commercial gramophone records from the early XX century. Although unique sources for ethnomusicological and historical research, these commercial recordings are little known and almost unexplored. The proposed text sets out to collect and describe information on the first decade of commercial gramophone recordings in Bulgaria. The basis for the research is sound evidence from scholarly and museum archives and private collections; music company catalogues, labels on gramophone records, discographies; and supporting information – texts and advertising images from newspapers, memoirs and memoir literature as primary and secondary sources. The sought ethnomusicological approach is achieved through a combination of different research methods: ethnographic, historical, discographic, cultural, anthropological. The results of the research present the role of commercial recordings in musical and popular culture in Bulgaria in the years leading up to the First World War, cultural life, musical history, musicing, intercultural interactions, the cultural choices of Western and local, Slavic and Balkan, traditional music in non-traditional modern contexts, art music in popular contexts, and the role of professional musicians.
AB - In this year’s edition of the journal Musicology, special attention will be paid to sound sources in musicology and ethnomusicology and, through the main theme of issue 32, the consideration of the products of the record industry as scientific sources is affirmed. The six studies in this section cover a wide range of topics, from the first commercial 78 rpm records to contemporary editions of incidental music and the latest releases of folk music, including the legal regulation of copyright and the interaction of the early record industry and radio as a new medium. The examples are related to the different national productions and contexts of Bulgaria, Croatia, Lithuania and Serbia. The Varia section presents five original, thematically and methodologically diverse studies of musicological, ethnomusicological, anthropological and interdisciplinary profiles. Part of the research published in the Main theme section presents the results of the project Applied Musicology and Ethnomusicology in Serbia: Making a Difference in Contemporary Society (APPMES) of the Institute of Musicology SASA.

The six studies in this section cover a wide range of topics, from the first commercial 78 rpm records to contemporary editions of incidental music and the latest releases of folk music, including the legal regulation of copyright and the interaction of the early record industry and radio as a new medium. The examples are related to the different national productions and contexts of Bulgaria, Croatia, Lithuania and Serbia. des hostilités, dont les contours ont été tracés pendant la guerre.

AB - Chemically modified steroids have a long history as anti-neoplastic drugs. Incorporation of a lactone moiety in the steroid nucleus, as in previously obtained 3β-acetoxy-17-oxa-17a-homoandrost-5-en-16-one (A) and 3β-hidroxy-17-oxa-17a-homoandrost-5-en-16-one (B), often results in enhanced anticancer properties. In this work, chitosan-based (Ch) nanoparticles were created and loaded with potent anticancer steroidal compounds, A and B. Changes to hormone receptor binding and cytotoxicity were then measured. In agreement with our previous results for A and B, A- and B-loaded Ch displayed cytotoxic properties against cancer cell lines. Both A-Ch and B-Ch showed activity toward estrogen negative breast cancer (MDA-MB-231) and androgen negative prostate cancer cell lines (PC-3). Greater selectivity toward cancer cells versus healthy lung fibroblast (MRC-5) was observed for B-Ch particles. Cell viability and cytotoxicity measurements after a recovery period indicate more robust recovery of healthy cells versus malignant cells. Compounds A and B or their Ch-encapsulated forms were shown to have negligible affinity for the ligand binding domain of estrogen receptor β or the androgen receptor in a fluorescent yeast screen, suggesting a lack of estrogenicity and androgenicity. Steroid-loaded chitosan nanoparticles display strong cytotoxicity towards MDA-MB-231 and PC-3 with a lack of hormone activity, indicating their safety and efficacy.

AB - Dense calcium phosphate-based ceramics were fabricated to be used as targets for pulsed laser deposition (PLD). Nanostructured cobalt-substituted hydroxyapatite (Co:HAP) was used as a starting powder. To vary phase composition and microstructure of targets, two sintering approaches were applied, conventional (CS) and two-step sintering (TSS). The obtained results show that in both cases biphasic calcium phosphate (BCP) ceramics (targets) were prepared, with slightly different HAP-to-β–TCP amount ratio and a significantly different microstructure. While the CS method yielded fully dense ceramics with an average grain size of 1.3 μm, the ceramics prepared by TSS had a density of 98.5%, with a predominant grain size below 100 nm. (Ca + Co)P coatings were prepared by PLD of (Ca + Co)P targets. The temperature of the Ti substrate was adjusted to be 25 and 500 °C. The results show that the phase composition of (Ca + Co)P coatings depended on the phase composition of targets as well as on the temperature of the Ti substrate. The coating prepared at 25 °C using CS target consisted of three calcium phosphate phases, HAP, β–TCP and α–TCP; when the TSS target was used, the coating was biphasic, containing HAP and β–TCP. When the substrate was heated to 500 °C, regardless of whether the CS or the TSS target was used, the deposited coatings were composed of HAP and α–TCP. Due to different phase compositions, the (Ca + Co)P coatings deposited at 25 °C showed an improved hardness compared to those deposited at 500 °C. The obtained results confirmed that the phase composition, morphology and mechanical properties of 0.3 μm thick (Ca + Co)P coatings on a Ti substrate can be tailored by employing (Ca + Co)P targets with different microstructures, and also by varying the temperature of the Ti substrate during deposition experiments.

The obtained results confirmed that the phase composition, morphology and mechanical properties of 0.3 μm thick (Ca + Co)P coatings on a Ti substrate can be tailored by employing (Ca + Co)P targets with different microstructures, and also by varying the temperature of the Ti substrate during deposition experiments.",

AB - An emerging technology of active packaging enables prolongation of food shelf life by limiting the oxygen transfer and the reactivity of free radicals, which both destruct food freshness. In this work, Fe2TiO5 nanoparticles were synthesized using a modified sol–gel method and evaluated as an enforcement of alginate food packaging film. Pure phase Fe2TiO5 nanoparticles had an average particle size of 44 nm and rhombohedral morphology. Fe2TiO5 nanoparticles induce no cell damage of human Caco-2 epithelial cells and show no inhibitory effect towards growth of a panel of bacterial strains, suggesting good biocompatibility. Films obtained by incorporation of Fe2TiO5 nanoparticles into alginate using the solvent casting method show no migration of iron or titanium ions from films to food simulants again suggesting their safety as a packaging material. Fe2TiO5 nanoparticles also showed strong antioxidant efficiency as determined using the DPPḢ assay, and confirmed further in a preservation test on fresh fruit.

AB - In order to integrate more and more variable renewable energy sources (VRES) electric grids play a significant role. There is an obvious need for more interconnections and more enhanced grids with more VRES. On the other side, the monetary, material, social and spatial constraints (free corridors) impose limits on grid expansions. Robust modelling of electric grids (distribution, transmission and interconnection) at World level in integrated assessment models (IAMs) is beyond the state of the art of current computation capabilities and data availability. A number of relevant input data like length of the grids, voltage levels, rated power, and after that material prices, population density, VRES shares of generation and flexibility technologies, hourly curtailments in the energy system are not sufficient to calculate explicit limitations imposed by power flows. Therefore, the idea of this paper is that in the absence of sufficient data and computability, for the first time some expert assumptions in the form of proportions are used to represent interconnection grids as an important constraint and flexibility option for variable renewable energy production, modelled at hourly level during one year using EnergyPLAN. These assumptions are about proportions of newly integrated renewable energy between transmission and distribution grids, proportions of grids to the generation plants and their utilization. Suggested method for application in WILIAM will be illustrated.

AB - The initial corrosion behavior of AZ63 magnesium alloy was investigated in 1, 3, 5 and 7 wt.% NaCl solutions by means of corrosion potential, linear polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and polarization measurements, during exposure in the corrosion media. Results show that the increase in chloride concentration provokes an increase in the corrosion rate. Based on the obtained kinetics parameters the mechanisms of anodic dissolution and hydrogen evolution reactions were discussed, and kinetic models were proposed. It is concluded that anodic dissolution proceeds under Temkin conditions and hydrogen evolution reaction depends on the surface coverage of Mg(OH)2 species.

AB - Energy systems of the future should enable transition to clean energy and reduction of CO2 emission. Various options are under consideration and research. One direction of development are photovoltaic, and rechargeable batteries used to store the electricity needed for vehicles and stationary systems (1,2). At the current technological level and market attractiveness among rechargeable batteries significant group are those based on lithium. EU production of raw materials for all batteries is about 1%. Growing demand for lithium are expected in 2050 to be 10-50 times higher than 2018. A lithium deficit in the market is expected (3,4). The companies are searching new locations for lithium mining and production facilities in order to compensate for the deficit.
The mineral named Jadarit found in Serbia, contains lithium, sodium, boron and silica. Estimated reserves of Jadarit are of low significance for World production of lithium, but may be significant at EU level and for Serbian economy. Certain companies are interested to enter the production chain from Jadarit. These companies present the possibility for future industrial battery development in Serbia, which may lead innovative final products. They claim optimistic 3-15% increase of GDP (5). Public debate provided argumented shortcomings of currently proposed technology for lithium extraction from Jadarit (6). Major concerns are regarding permanent devastation of lush ecosystem, fertile soil, drinking water, air pollution. These non-monetary assets and their contribution to GDP should be monetized as sine qua non for objective cost-benefit analysis. Therefore, instead of polarization, public debate that identifies key critical points in technology of lithium extraction and its effects on human health and environment provides basis for future research that will develop new technologies capable to protect environment.

AB - The narratives of zombie films articulate social relations in the context of an apocalyic
social environment, indicating unstoppable processes of disease spreading through the
omnipresence of zombies as the primary infection carriers, emphasizing discourses of
biological catastrophe, that is, epidemics of infectious diseases as a potential means
of the end of a modern civilization. As portrayed in movies about zombies, epidemics
could be observed as a type of imagined future of the virus, that is, as an advanced
stage in infectious disease evolution, which leads to the deconstruction and complete
collapse of the existing social system, and then to apocalyptic consequences and the
forming of a new social order. An epidemic creates conditions in which previously
known institutional organization ceases to exist and shapes individual behaviors that
transform social environments to meet the demands of new social and biological
discourses. Due to such circumstances, social surroundings are significantly changed,
and disease establishes itself as a signifier of social strategies, relationships towards
the infected, and the area for the redistribution of social power and livelihood. The
aim of this paper is to reveal the ways of social reorganization and social disruption
caused by the zombie epidemic, emphasizing the role of the disease in reshaping
social groups and relationships, with the purpose of analyzing the ways in which
movie narratives metaphorize the efficiency of infectious diseases.

end of the twentieth and the beginning of the twenty-first century. The main goal
was to determine whether there is a desirable/ideal model of clothing for SOC
believers, at the liturgy as well as the type and degree of deviation from it in the
daily practice of believers. The paper is based on ethnographic material collected
during the last five years in churches and monasteries throughout Serbia using the
method of observation, semi-structured questionnaire, informal conversation and
the use of information from Orthodox forums and websites.
