Assessment of Grain Size and Grain Refinement Efficiency by Calculation of Released Heat Attributed to Formation of Primary Aluminum Crystals During Solidification of Al7Si4Cu Alloy

AB  - Assessing heat released only related to the formation of primary crystals provides results with a significantly higher sensitivity than a traditional assessment of undercooling value. In this work, two similar Ti5B1 master alloys (commercial and refined) are used for grain refinement of Al7Si4Cu aluminum alloy to assess narrow differences in heat release during primary crystallization. The heat released related to primary crystallization is 2.50 ± 0.03, 3.16 ± 0.12, and 7.92 kJ kg−1 for samples treated with the refined master alloys, commercial master alloys, and sample solidified without grain refinement, respectively. The acquired results showed that the suggested method is more efficient in comparison with traditional metallographic or undercooling methods for the assessment of grain refining efficiency with the potential to extend the suggested approach on a wide range of metallic structures where solidification occurs by eutectic-type primary crystallization characteristics.

Bamboo‐Membrane Inspired Multilevel Ultrafast Interlayer Ion Transport for Superior Volumetric Energy Storage

AB  - Interlayer transport of charges and carriers of 2D nanomaterials is a critical parameter that governs the material and device performance in energy storage applications. Inspired by multilevel natural bamboo-membrane with ultrafast water and electrolyte transport properties to support its super-rapid growth rate, 2D–2D multilevel heterostructured graphene-based membranes with tailored gradient interlayer channels are rationally designed for achieving ultrafast interlayer ion transport. The bioinspired heterostructured membranes possess multilevel interlayer spacing distributions, where the closely packed layers with sub-nanosized interlayer space provide ultrafast confined interlayer ion transport, while the loosely stacked outer layers consisting of open channels with large distances up to few micrometres are favorable for rapid wetting and penetration of liquid electrolytes. The combination of advantages of large-size open channels and nanosized confined channels offers ultrafast electrolyte wetting and permeation and interlayer ion transport and provide the devices with superior volumetric capacity as free-standing electrodes for rechargeable batteries.

Integer codes correcting single asymmetric errors

AB  - This paper presents a class of integer codes capable of correcting single asymmetric errors. The presented codes are defined over the ring of integers modulo 2b– 1 and are constructed with the help of a computer. The results of an exhaustive search have shown that, for practical lengths up to 4096 bits, the proposed codes use the same number of check bits as the best systematic single asymmetric error-correcting codes (SAECCs). Besides this, it is found that for some lengths the presented codes are perfect. Finally, the paper shows that the encoding/decoding complexity of the proposed codes is notably lower than that of the best systematic SAECCs.

AB  - An increasing lack of available therapeutic options against Acinetobacter baumannii urged researchers to seek alternative ways to fight this extremely resistant nosocomial pathogen. Targeting its virulence appears to be a promising strategy, as it offers considerably reduced selection of resistant mutants. In this study, we tested antibiofilm potential of four synthetic chalcone derivatives against A. baumannii. Compound that showed the greatest activity was selected for further evaluation of its antivirulence properties. Real‐time PCR was used to evaluate mRNA expression of biofilm‐associated virulence factor genes (ompA, bap, abaI) in treated A. baumannii strains. Also, we examined virulence properties related to the expression of these genes, such as fibronectin‐ and collagen‐mediated adhesion, surface motility, and quorum‐sensing activity. The results revealed that the expression of all tested genes is downregulated together with the reduction of adhesion and motility. The conclusion is that 2′‐hydroxy‐2‐methoxychalcone exhibits antivirulence activity against A. baumannii by inhibiting the expression of ompA and bap genes, which is reflected in reduced biofilm formation, adhesion, and surface motility.

Targeting its virulence appears to be a promising strategy, as it offers considerably reduced selection of resistant mutants. In this study, we tested antibiofilm potential of four synthetic chalcone derivatives against A. baumannii. Compound that showed the greatest activity was selected for further evaluation of its antivirulence properties. Real-time PCR was used to evaluate mRNA expression of biofilm-associated virulence factor genes (ompA, bap, abaI) in treated A. baumannii strains. Also, we examined virulence properties related to the expression of these genes, such as fibronectin- and collagen-mediated adhesion, surface motility, and quorum-sensing activity. The results revealed that the expression of all tested genes is downregulated together with the reduction of adhesion and motility. The conclusion is that 2′-hydroxy-2-methoxychalcone exhibits antivirulence activity against A. baumannii by inhibiting the expression of ompA and bap genes, which is reflected in reduced biofilm formation, adhesion, and surface motility.

AB  - Infectious diseases are a significant burden on the public health and the economic stability of societies all over the world. Drug resistance presents an ever-increasing global public health threat that involves all major microbial pathogens and antimicrobial drugs. The considerable concern regarding bacterial resistance to antimicrobial agents, bacterial adhesion, and proliferation has generated intense research in this field. Although urgently needed, an effective and long-lasting solution to this problem, i.e. microbial and especially bacterial colonization, has not yet been found. In the last decades, nanomaterials have attracted much attention because of their unique physical, chemical, and mechanical properties, due to their high surface area and size at the nanoscale. Owing to these extraordinary characteristics, nanomaterials are appropriate candidates for various applications in different fields such as medicine, pharmacy, food industry, etc. New strategies based on the use of nanomaterials such as nanoparticles, nanocapsules, nanogels, nanofibers, nanocomposites, or nanocoatings for controlling microbial virulence factors are very promising. In addition special focus recently is paid on nanostructured polymeric materials and nanocomposites with antimicrobial properties. The increasing attention within the scientific community regarding this topic can be easily assessed by searching the suitable keywords in some recognized literature databases. According to Scopus, in the last 10 years, more than 1,300 peer-reviewed documents have been published jointly containing keywords such as “nanocomposites” and “antimicrobial”. Interestingly, in the more specified search which refers to the utilization of nanostructured polymeric materials, it could be observed a similar profile i.e. growing tendency.

Safe-by-design gelatin-modified zinc oxide nanoparticles

AB  - We report an innovative low-cost wet  precipitation  synthesis  method  for  gelatin-modified   zinc oxide nanoparticles (GM ZnO NPs) at the inter- face  between  the  gelatin  hydrogel  and  aqueous  elec- trolyte.  Diffusion  of  ammonia  through  the  hydrogel   matrices with different gelatin contents induced pre- cipitation  of  the  product  in  contact  with  the  surface   of  the  aqueous  solution  of  zinc  ions.  The  obtained   precipitate  was  subjected  to  thermal  treatment  to  partially  decompose  the  adsorbed  gelatin  in  the  NP   structure. Physicochemical properties of obtained  GM  ZnO  NPs  were  characterized  by  X-ray  powder   diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy  (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy  (FTIR), differential thermal analysis (DTA), thermo- gravimetry (TG), photon correlation spectroscopy  (PCS),  zeta  potential  measurements,  and  inductively   coupled  plasma-mass  spectrometry  (ICP-MS).  The   estimated mean crystallite size of GM ZnO NP pow- ders was in the range from 5.8 to 12.1 nm. The syn- thesized  NPs  exhibited  nanosheet  morphology  and   arranged into flake-like aggregates. The toxic poten- tial was investigated in vitro in human hepatocellular  carcinoma cell line HepG2. The thiazolyl blue tetra- zolium bromide (MTS) assay was used to assess cell  viability,  2′,7′-dichlor-fluorescein-diacetate  (DCFH- DA)  assay  to  examine  the  formation  of  intracellu- lar  reactive  oxygen  species  (ROS),  and  comet  assay   to  evaluate  the  genotoxic  response.  GM  ZnO  NPs   slightly reduced HepG2 cell viability, did not induce  ROS formation, and showed low genotoxic potential  at  very  high  doses  (100  μg    mL−1).  ZnO  NPs  fabri- cated  and  modified  using  the  proposed  methodol- ogy deserve further study as potential candidates for  antibacterial agents or dietary supplements with low  overall toxicity.

AB  - Париз је једна од водећих престоница музичког света. Између 1925. и 1940. био
је и интелектуални, културни и политички центар руске емиграције. Било би
изненађујуће да Сергеј Рахмањинов није провео неко време у том граду. И заиста,
између 1928. и 1939. тамо је одржао дванаест клавирских реситала и два концерта
с оркестром. Релативно мали број концерата које је Рахмањинов имао у Паризу
сугерише да је француска публика била навикнута на другачију, егзотичнију
руску музику, препуну блиставих пејзажа, костима, плесача виртуозних скокова
и боја. Томе у прилог иде и приметан вакуум који је око Рахмањинова начинила
француска штампа од краја двадесетих до почетка четрдесетих година. Његов
шездесети рођендан и четрдесетогодишњицу његове музичке каријере 1933.
године, који су у руским круговима у Паризу прослављени с великом помпом,
није забележио ниједан од популарних, а ни музичких часописа Француске.
Сам Рахмањинов би најрадије изабрао живот на селу. Међутим, бракови
обеју кћерки чврсто су га били везали за Француску, а посебно за Париз. Тамо
је покренуо издавачку кућу „Tair“. Рахмањинов, као и чланови његове породице,
писци из руске дијаспоре и колеге музичари били су укључени у тај подухват.
Издавачку кућу је користио да помогне Русима, објављујући њихова дела.
Рахмањиновљев однос према Паризу био је амбивалентан. С једне стране, он
је живот у Паризу сматрао добрим. С друге стране, у писмима је град називао
„уклетим“, „ужурбаним и скупим“, а говорио је и да рђаво делује на његово
здравље и да га је „растргао га на комаде“. Иако су добротворни концерти били
уобичајена појава у Рахмањиновљевој каријери, та добротворна димензија била
је посебно важна у Паризу. Помагао је руске студенте, добротворне организације
за помоћ емигрантима, цркве и образовне установе, попут Института Светог
Сергија. Ако Рахмањинов није оставио готово никаквог трага у музичкој
историји Париза, то је за „руски“ Париз међуратног доба несумњиво имао
огроман значај.

AB  - Током последње деценије XX века српска музикологија је свој дотадашњи репертоар истраживачких тема, управљен, највећим делом, на анализу композиција домаћих и иностраних аутора, почела да отвара и према другим тематским областима. Од тога времена наовамо појавио се значајан број књига и студија из историје литературе о музици XIX и XX века. Часопис Музикологија је учествовао у тој промени објављивањем низа радова из историје музичке критике, есејистике, периодике и историографије.
Тема тридесетог броја јесте Музичка критика у Русији и Источној Европи – У знак сећања на Стјуарта Кембела (1949–2018). Тему броја, која је проистекла из једнодневне конференције одржане септембра 2019. на Универзитету у Дараму, Велика Британија, уредила је као гостујућа уредница др Ивана Медић, виша научна сарадница у Музиколошком институту САНУ и алумна Универзитета у Манчестеру. Њено ангажовање од 2012. до данас у својству координаторке Студијске групе за руску и источноевропску музику при Британској асоцијацији за славистичке и источноевропске студије (REEM-BASEES) довело је до плодотворне сарадње између те студијске групе и Музиколошког института САНУ. Међу досадашњим заједничким пројектима треба издвојити организацију две велике међународне конференције у Српској академији наука и уметности – Изван поделе на исток и запад: поновно промишљање привлачних сила балканске музике (2013) и Музичко наслеђе државног социјализма: преиспитивање наратива о послератној Европи (2015), као и два броја часописа Музикологија чије су теме такође проистекле из једнодневних конференција студијске групе REEM-BASEES: Музика и империја (бр. 20, I/2016) и Музика и криза (бр. 21, II/2016); обе теме уредила је др Ивана Медић.
Годишња конференција REEM-BASEES била је организована у част др Стјуарта Кембела, еминентног шкотског музиколога, оргуљаша и диригента. Кембел је студирао руски језик и музику на Универзитету у Единбургу и затим одбранио докторат на Универзитету у Глазгову. Поред тога, стекао је дипломе Краљевског оргуљског колеџа и Краљевског колеџа за музику. Професор Кембел био је први, а доскора и једини шкотски музиколог који се специјализовао за руску музику. Предавао је историју музике, оргуље и био уметнички директор Музичке капеле Универзитета у Глазгову од 1975. до 2000. године. Као
универзитетски оргуљаш, поред својих редовних задужења, приређивао је
и солистичке реситале – на пример, 1986. године је одржао низ концерата на
којима је извео комплетна оргуљска дела Јохана Себастијана Баха током 14
недеља. Из његове класе изашао је велики број професионалних оргуљаша. Године 2000. Стјуарт Кембел се повукао са свог сталног радног места на
Универзитету у Глазгову, како би се посветио истраживачком раду. Међутим,
наставио је да ради на Универзитету као хонорарни виши научни сарадник за
област источноевропских и централноевропских студија у Департману за музику
и као наставник разних курсева (посебно оних посвећених руској музици)
при Центру за образовање одраслих. Поред тога, био је омиљени диригент
Универзитетског хорског друштва и пасионирани промотер православне
духовне музике. Са својом супругом, руском музиколошкињом Светланом
Зверевом, основао је хор Руска капела у Глазгову, са циљем да руску хорску
музику приближи што већем кругу слушалаца. Једно од најуспешнијих издања
овог хора био је компакт-диск са снимком Реквијема за палу браћу Александра
Кастаљског. Хор је наступао у многим дворанама широм Шкотске и редовно
учествовао на службама у Руској православној цркви у Глазгову. Стјуарт Кембел
је 2016. године примио признање од руског амбасадора за свој дугогодишњи
допринос јачању културних веза између Шкотске и Русије.
Његова обимна библиографија обухвата уређивање и превод свих текстова
у двотомној антологији руске музичке критике (Russians on Russian Music, 1830–1880, Cambridge University Press, 1994; Russians On Russian Music,
1880–1917, Cambridge University Press, 2003), као и већи број текстова о
руској музици у енциклопедијама New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians,
Die Musik in Geschichte und Gegenwart и др. Био је члан уређивачког одбора
који је припремио за штампу ново, критичко издање целокупних дела Сергеја
Рахмањинова. Такође, објавио је први енглески превод критичких написа о
музици Петра Иљича Чајковског. На конференцији организованој Кембелу у част, презентовани су радови
везани за истраживачке области које су биле у фокусу његовог интересовања:
музичка критика у Русији и Источној Европи, литургијска музика источних
православних цркава, руска и источноевропска музичка дијаспора, као
и примењена музика. Одабрани радови са ове конференције значајно су
проширени, рецензирани, допуњени одговарајућим критичким апаратом и
рецензирани, те на крају прихваћени за објављивање у овом и наредном броју
часописа Музикологија.
Тему броја 30 отвара студија музиколошкиње Аквиле Стјуарт о критичкој
рецепцији дела Алексеја Станчињског (Алексей Владимирович Станчинский,
1888–1914), трагично преминулог авангардног руског композитора с почетка
ХХ века, чије су иновативне композиције изазивале подељена мишљења међу
критичарима, упркос томе што су се слагали у оцени Станчињског као изузетно
талентованог композитора. Једна од последица Октобарске револуције била
је емиграција великог броја руских уметника на Запад. Светлана Зверева,
руска музиколошкиња активна у Великој Британији, пружа живописну слику
„руског Дрездена“ из двадесетих и тридесетих година прошлог века, и то у
сфери музичког, црквеног и друштвеног живота. Протагонисти совјетске
музикологије XX столећа, аутору чувене књиге Музичка форма као процес,
Борису Асафјеву, рад је посветио британски музиколог Данијел Елфик. Часопис
Музикологија постхумно објављује студију Стјуарта Кембела, у којој су обрађене
париске године Сергеја Рахмањинова. Уз тај рад, као омаж професору Кембелу,
објављујемо његову персоналну библиографију.
Три студије у рубрици „Varia“ одсликавају широк дијапазон тема и области
које негује часопис Музикологија. Темељна, пионирска студија Иване Весић
обрађује допринос југословенских соколских организација међуратној музичкој
култури. Иван Муди испитује положај петорице композитора-емиграната
– Франца Рајзенштајна, Маћаша Шајбера, Егона Велеса, Роберта Герхарда и
Анджеја Пануфника – у Великој Британији за време и после Другог светског
рата, и отвара питање да ли се однос према емигрантима променио. Најзад,
студија Јасне Јовићевић окренута је сфери популарних музичких жанрова.
Ауторка проблематизује родну перспективу инструменталних извођачица џез
музике у југоисточној Европи. Рубрика „Научна критика и полемика“ садржи шест текстова. Приказане су и оцењене научне монографије и тематски зборници радова међународног значаја, резултати научног рада српских и иностраних музиколога, етномузиколога и стручњака из граничних дисциплина. У тој рубрици доносимо и критички приказ дискографије српске уметничке музике у 2020. години.
Исцрпним, надахнутим некрологом из пера проф. Милане Стојадиновић-Милић, часопис Музикологија се с великом тугом опрашта од прерано преминуле композиторке Исидоре Жебељан, професорке Факултета музичке уметности у Београду, редовне чланице Српске академије наука и уметности. Њена оригинална, животворна уметност учинила је да српска музика добије место на светској мапи какво није имала.
У име уреднице Теме броја, главног и одговорног уредника, као и чланова редакције часописа Музикологија, изражавамо захвалност Светлани Зверевој, која је припремила студију и библиографију Стјуарта Кембела за објављивање, затим свим координаторима Студијске групе REEM-BASEES, а посебно проф. др Патрику Зуку (Patrick Zuk), који је био иницијатор и домаћин конференције организоване на Универзитету у Дараму. Такође, захваљујемо рецензентима на преданом читању радова предатих за објављивање у овом броју часописа Музикологија и на исцрпним коментарима.
AB  - During the last decade of the 20th century, Serbian musicology began to broaden its repertoire of research topics – previously focused, for the most part, on the analysis of works by Serbian and foreign composers – to other thematic areas as well. Ever since, a significant number of books and studies on the history of literature on music of the 19th and 20th centuries have appeared. The journal Musicology played an active role in that shift of research focus by publishing a series of papers on the history of music criticism, essays, periodicals and historiography.
The main theme of the thirtieth issue of the journal Musicology is Music Criticism in Russia and Eastern Europe – In memoriam Stuart Campbell (1949–2018). This main theme, which originated from a one-day conference held in September 2019 at the University of Durham, United Kingdom, was guest-edited by Dr Ivana Medić, Senior Research Associate at the Institute of Musicology of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts and an alumnа of the University of Manchester. Her engagement from 2012 until today as a convener of the Study Group for Russian and East European Music with the British Association for Slavic and Eastern European Studies (REEM-BASEES)1 has led to a fruitful cooperation between this study group and the Institute of Musicology SASA. Previous joint projects include organization of two major international conferences at the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, Beyond the East-West Divide: Rethinking Balkan Music’s Poles of Attraction (2013) and Musical Legacies of State Socialism: Revisiting Narratives about Post-World War II Europe (2015), as well as two issues of the journal Musicology whose main themes also originated from the REEM-BASEES study days: Music and Empire (No. 20, I/2016) and Music and Crisis (No. 21, II/2016); both themes were edited by Ivana Medić.
The 2019 REEM-BASEES conference was organised in honour of Dr Stuart Campbell, an eminent Scottish musicologist, organist and conductor. He studied Russian and Music at the University of Edinburgh and gained his PhD at the University of Glasgow. He held the diplomas of Fellow of the Royal College of Organists and Associate of the Royal College of Music. Professor Campbell was the first, and until recently the only Scottish musicologist who specialised in Russian music. He worked as Lecturer in Music, University Organist and Director of Chapel Music in the University of Glasgow from 1975 to 2000. As University Organist, aside from his
regular duties, he gave solo recitals – one memorable series took place in 1986 when
he performed the entire oeuvre of Bach’s organ works over a period of 14 weeks. He
taught organ to many students who have gone on to become professional organists. In 2000 Stuart Campbell retired from his permanent posts at the University of
Glasgow to focus on his research interests. His association with the University continued
as Honorary Senior Research Fellow in both Central and Eastern European
Studies and the Music Department. As Subject Specialist in Music and lecturer in
Adult and Continuing Education, he delivered courses on various aspects of Russian
music. Furthermore, he was a popular conductor of the University Choral Society
and a lifelong passionate promoter of Orthodox sacred music. Stuart Campbell and
his wife, the Russian musicologist Svetlana Zvereva, founded the choir Russkaya
Cappella in Glasgow with the aim of bringing both Russian choral music and their
research to the attention of a wider audience. A major success has been their performance
and CD recording of Alexander Kastalsky’s Requiem for Fallen Brothers. The
choir has performed in many venues in Scotland and for services of the Russian Orthodox
Church in Glasgow. For his contribution to cultural ties between Scotland
and Russia, Stuart Campbell received the Russian Ambassador’s Letter of Recognition
in 2016. He compiled, translated and annotated two volumes of an anthology of Russian
music criticism (Russians on Russian Music, 1830–1880, Cambridge University
Press, 1994; Russians On Russian Music, 1880–1917, Cambridge University Press,
2003) and contributed entries on Russian topics to the New Grove Dictionary of Music
and Musicians, second edition, and on Russian and Scottish topics to Die Musik
in Geschichte und Gegenwart. He was a member of Editorial Board of the Critical
Edition of the Complete Works of Sergei Rachmaninoff. He also published the first
English translation of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's critical writings on music.
At the REEM-BASEES study day organized in his honour, scholars from the
United Kingdom, Russia, Serbia, Lithuania and Kuwait read papers covering research
areas related to Campbell's interest: music criticism in Russia and Eastern Europe,
liturgical music of Eastern Orthodox churches, Russian and Eastern European
music diaspora, as well as applied music. Selected papers from this conference were
significantly expanded, revised, supplemented with appropriate critical apparatus
and peer-reviewed, and finally accepted for publication in the present and the next
issue of the journal Musicology.
The main theme of No. 30 opens with a study by Lithuanian-British musicologist
Akvilė Stuart on the critical reception of the work of Alexei Stanchinsky (Алексей
Владимирович Станчинский, 1888–1914), a tragically and prematurely lost Russian
avant-garde composer from the early twentieth century, whose innovative
compositions divided the critics, although they unanimously praised Stanchinsky’s
talent. One of the consequences of the October Revolution was the emigration of
a large number of Russian artists to the West. Svetlana Zvereva, a Russian musicologist
active in the United Kingdom, provides a vivid picture of “Russian Dresden”
from the 1920s and 1930s in the domains of musical, church and social life. British
musicologist Daniel Elphick writes about Boris Asafyev, an important protagonist
of Soviet musicology of the 20th century and the author of the famous book Musical
Form as a Process. The journal Musicology posthumously publishes one of Stuart
Campbell’s final papers which covers the Paris years of Sergei Rachmaninoff. Along
with this article, as a tribute to Dr Campbell, his personal bibliography is published.
The three studies in the “Varia” section reflect a wide range of topics and research
areas promoted by the journal Musicology. Ivana Vesić’s thorough, pioneering study
deals with the contribution of the Yugoslav Sokol (Falconry) organisations to the
interwar music culture. Ivan Moody examines the position of five emigrant composers
– Franz Reizenstein, Mátyás Seiber, Egon Wellesz, Roberto Gerhard and Andrzej
Panufnik – in Great Britain during and after World War II, and raises the question
of whether the attitudes towards emigrants have changed. Finally, Jasna Jovićević’s
study is focused on the realm of popular music genres. The author problematizes the
gender perspective of instrumental jazz performers in Southeast Europe. The section “Scientific Reviews and Polemics” contains six texts. Scientific monographs and themed collections of articles of international importance, results of scientific work of both Serbian and foreign musicologists, ethnomusicologists and experts from related disciplines are presented and evaluated. This section also contains a critical review of the discography of Serbian art music in 2020.
With great sadness, the editorial board of the journal Musicology bids farewell to the prematurely deceased composer Isidora Žebeljan, Professor at the Faculty of Music in Belgrade and Fellow of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, with an inspired, comprehesive obituary written by a fellow composer, Professor Milana Stojadinović-Milić. Žebeljan’s original, vivid works have secured Serbian music a place on the world map that it previously did not have.

Кембел је студирао руски језик и музику на Универзитету у Единбургу и затим одбранио докторат на Универзитету у Глазгову. Поред тога, стекао је дипломе Краљевског оргуљског колеџа и Краљевског колеџа за музику. Професор Кембел био је први, а доскора и једини шкотски музиколог који се специјализовао за руску музику. Предавао је историју музике, оргуље и био уметнички директор Музичке капеле Универзитета у Глазгову од 1975. до 2000. године. Као
универзитетски оргуљаш, поред својих редовних задужења, приређивао је
и солистичке реситале – на пример, 1986. године је одржао низ концерата на
којима је извео комплетна оргуљска дела Јохана Себастијана Баха током 14
недеља. Из његове класе изашао је велики број професионалних оргуљаша. Године 2000. Стјуарт Кембел се повукао са свог сталног радног места на
Универзитету у Глазгову, како би се посветио истраживачком раду. Међутим,
наставио је да ради на Универзитету као хонорарни виши научни сарадник за
област источноевропских и централноевропских студија у Департману за музику
и као наставник разних курсева (посебно оних посвећених руској музици)
при Центру за образовање одраслих. Поред тога, био је омиљени диригент
Универзитетског хорског друштва и пасионирани промотер православне
духовне музике. Са својом супругом, руском музиколошкињом Светланом
Зверевом, основао је хор Руска капела у Глазгову, са циљем да руску хорску
музику приближи што већем кругу слушалаца. Једно од најуспешнијих издања
овог хора био је компакт-диск са снимком Реквијема за палу браћу Александра
Кастаљског. Хор је наступао у многим дворанама широм Шкотске и редовно
учествовао на службама у Руској православној цркви у Глазгову. Стјуарт Кембел
је 2016. године примио признање од руског амбасадора за свој дугогодишњи
допринос јачању културних веза између Шкотске и Русије.
Његова обимна библиографија обухвата уређивање и превод свих текстова
у двотомној антологији руске музичке критике (Russians on Russian Music, 1830–1880, Cambridge University Press, 1994; Russians On Russian Music,
1880–1917, Cambridge University Press, 2003), као и већи број текстова о
руској музици у енциклопедијама New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians,
Die Musik in Geschichte und Gegenwart и др. Био је члан уређивачког одбора
који је припремио за штампу ново, критичко издање целокупних дела Сергеја
Рахмањинова. Такође, објавио је први енглески превод критичких написа о
музици Петра Иљича Чајковског. На конференцији организованој Кембелу у част, презентовани су радови
везани за истраживачке области које су биле у фокусу његовог интересовања:
музичка критика у Русији и Источној Европи, литургијска музика источних
православних цркава, руска и источноевропска музичка дијаспора, као
и примењена музика. Одабрани радови са ове конференције значајно су
проширени, рецензирани, допуњени одговарајућим критичким апаратом и
рецензирани, те на крају прихваћени за објављивање у овом и наредном броју
часописа Музикологија.
Тему броја 30 отвара студија музиколошкиње Аквиле Стјуарт о критичкој
рецепцији дела Алексеја Станчињског (Алексей Владимирович Станчинский,
1888–1914), трагично преминулог авангардног руског композитора с почетка
ХХ века, чије су иновативне композиције изазивале подељена мишљења међу
критичарима, упркос томе што су се слагали у оцени Станчињског као изузетно
талентованог композитора. Једна од последица Октобарске револуције била
је емиграција великог броја руских уметника на Запад. Светлана Зверева,
руска музиколошкиња активна у Великој Британији, пружа живописну слику
„руског Дрездена“ из двадесетих и тридесетих година прошлог века, и то у
сфери музичког, црквеног и друштвеног живота. Протагонисти совјетске
музикологије XX столећа, аутору чувене књиге Музичка форма као процес,
Борису Асафјеву, рад је посветио британски музиколог Данијел Елфик. Часопис
Музикологија постхумно објављује студију Стјуарта Кембела, у којој су обрађене
париске године Сергеја Рахмањинова. Уз тај рад, као омаж професору Кембелу,
објављујемо његову персоналну библиографију.
Три студије у рубрици „Varia“ одсликавају широк дијапазон тема и области
које негује часопис Музикологија. Темељна, пионирска студија Иване Весић
обрађује допринос југословенских соколских организација међуратној музичкој
култури. Иван Муди испитује положај петорице композитора-емиграната
– Франца Рајзенштајна, Маћаша Шајбера, Егона Велеса, Роберта Герхарда и
Анджеја Пануфника – у Великој Британији за време и после Другог светског
рата, и отвара питање да ли се однос према емигрантима променио. Најзад,
студија Јасне Јовићевић окренута је сфери популарних музичких жанрова.
Ауторка проблематизује родну перспективу инструменталних извођачица џез
музике у југоисточној Европи. Рубрика „Научна критика и полемика“ садржи шест текстова. Приказане су и оцењене научне монографије и тематски зборници радова међународног значаја, резултати научног рада српских и иностраних музиколога, етномузиколога и стручњака из граничних дисциплина. У тој рубрици доносимо и критички приказ дискографије српске уметничке музике у 2020. години.
Исцрпним, надахнутим некрологом из пера проф. Милане Стојадиновић-Милић, часопис Музикологија се с великом тугом опрашта од прерано преминуле композиторке Исидоре Жебељан, професорке Факултета музичке уметности у Београду, редовне чланице Српске академије наука и уметности. Њена оригинална, животворна уметност учинила је да српска музика добије место на светској мапи какво није имала.
У име уреднице Теме броја, главног и одговорног уредника, као и чланова редакције часописа Музикологија, изражавамо захвалност Светлани Зверевој, која је припремила студију и библиографију Стјуарта Кембела за објављивање, затим свим координаторима Студијске групе REEM-BASEES, а посебно проф. др Патрику Зуку (Patrick Zuk), који је био иницијатор и домаћин конференције организоване на Универзитету у Дараму. Такође, захваљујемо рецензентима на преданом читању радова предатих за објављивање у овом броју часописа Музикологија и на исцрпним коментарима., During the last decade of the 20th century, Serbian musicology began to broaden its repertoire of research topics – previously focused, for the most part, on the analysis of works by Serbian and foreign composers – to other thematic areas as well. Ever since, a significant number of books and studies on the history of literature on music of the 19th and 20th centuries have appeared. The journal Musicology played an active role in that shift of research focus by publishing a series of papers on the history of music criticism, essays, periodicals and historiography.
The main theme of the thirtieth issue of the journal Musicology is Music Criticism in Russia and Eastern Europe – In memoriam Stuart Campbell (1949–2018). This main theme, which originated from a one-day conference held in September 2019 at the University of Durham, United Kingdom, was guest-edited by Dr Ivana Medić, Senior Research Associate at the Institute of Musicology of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts and an alumnа of the University of Manchester. Her engagement from 2012 until today as a convener of the Study Group for Russian and East European Music with the British Association for Slavic and Eastern European Studies (REEM-BASEES)1 has led to a fruitful cooperation between this study group and the Institute of Musicology SASA. Previous joint projects include organization of two major international conferences at the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, Beyond the East-West Divide: Rethinking Balkan Music’s Poles of Attraction (2013) and Musical Legacies of State Socialism: Revisiting Narratives about Post-World War II Europe (2015), as well as two issues of the journal Musicology whose main themes also originated from the REEM-BASEES study days: Music and Empire (No. 20, I/2016) and Music and Crisis (No. 21, II/2016); both themes were edited by Ivana Medić.
The 2019 REEM-BASEES conference was organised in honour of Dr Stuart Campbell, an eminent Scottish musicologist, organist and conductor. He studied Russian and Music at the University of Edinburgh and gained his PhD at the University of Glasgow. He held the diplomas of Fellow of the Royal College of Organists and Associate of the Royal College of Music. Professor Campbell was the first, and until recently the only Scottish musicologist who specialised in Russian music. He worked as Lecturer in Music, University Organist and Director of Chapel Music in the University of Glasgow from 1975 to 2000. As University Organist, aside from his
regular duties, he gave solo recitals – one memorable series took place in 1986 when
he performed the entire oeuvre of Bach’s organ works over a period of 14 weeks. He
taught organ to many students who have gone on to become professional organists. In 2000 Stuart Campbell retired from his permanent posts at the University of
Glasgow to focus on his research interests. His association with the University continued
as Honorary Senior Research Fellow in both Central and Eastern European
Studies and the Music Department. As Subject Specialist in Music and lecturer in
Adult and Continuing Education, he delivered courses on various aspects of Russian
music. Furthermore, he was a popular conductor of the University Choral Society
and a lifelong passionate promoter of Orthodox sacred music. Stuart Campbell and
his wife, the Russian musicologist Svetlana Zvereva, founded the choir Russkaya
Cappella in Glasgow with the aim of bringing both Russian choral music and their
research to the attention of a wider audience. A major success has been their performance
and CD recording of Alexander Kastalsky’s Requiem for Fallen Brothers. The
choir has performed in many venues in Scotland and for services of the Russian Orthodox
Church in Glasgow. For his contribution to cultural ties between Scotland
and Russia, Stuart Campbell received the Russian Ambassador’s Letter of Recognition
in 2016. He compiled, translated and annotated two volumes of an anthology of Russian
music criticism (Russians on Russian Music, 1830–1880, Cambridge University
Press, 1994; Russians On Russian Music, 1880–1917, Cambridge University Press,
2003) and contributed entries on Russian topics to the New Grove Dictionary of Music
and Musicians, second edition, and on Russian and Scottish topics to Die Musik
in Geschichte und Gegenwart. He was a member of Editorial Board of the Critical
Edition of the Complete Works of Sergei Rachmaninoff. He also published the first
English translation of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's critical writings on music.
At the REEM-BASEES study day organized in his honour, scholars from the
United Kingdom, Russia, Serbia, Lithuania and Kuwait read papers covering research
areas related to Campbell's interest: music criticism in Russia and Eastern Europe,
liturgical music of Eastern Orthodox churches, Russian and Eastern European
music diaspora, as well as applied music. Selected papers from this conference were
significantly expanded, revised, supplemented with appropriate critical apparatus
and peer-reviewed, and finally accepted for publication in the present and the next
issue of the journal Musicology.
The main theme of No. 30 opens with a study by Lithuanian-British musicologist
Akvilė Stuart on the critical reception of the work of Alexei Stanchinsky (Алексей
Владимирович Станчинский, 1888–1914), a tragically and prematurely lost Russian
avant-garde composer from the early twentieth century, whose innovative
compositions divided the critics, although they unanimously praised Stanchinsky’s
talent. One of the consequences of the October Revolution was the emigration of
a large number of Russian artists to the West. Svetlana Zvereva, a Russian musicologist
active in the United Kingdom, provides a vivid picture of “Russian Dresden”
from the 1920s and 1930s in the domains of musical, church and social life. British
musicologist Daniel Elphick writes about Boris Asafyev, an important protagonist
of Soviet musicology of the 20th century and the author of the famous book Musical
Form as a Process. The journal Musicology posthumously publishes one of Stuart
Campbell’s final papers which covers the Paris years of Sergei Rachmaninoff. Along
with this article, as a tribute to Dr Campbell, his personal bibliography is published.
The three studies in the “Varia” section reflect a wide range of topics and research
areas promoted by the journal Musicology. Ivana Vesić’s thorough, pioneering study
deals with the contribution of the Yugoslav Sokol (Falconry) organisations to the
interwar music culture. Ivan Moody examines the position of five emigrant composers
– Franz Reizenstein, Mátyás Seiber, Egon Wellesz, Roberto Gerhard and Andrzej
Panufnik – in Great Britain during and after World War II, and raises the question
of whether the attitudes towards emigrants have changed. Finally, Jasna Jovićević’s
study is focused on the realm of popular music genres. The author problematizes the
gender perspective of instrumental jazz performers in Southeast Europe. The section “Scientific Reviews and Polemics” contains six texts. Scientific monographs and themed collections of articles of international importance, results of scientific work of both Serbian and foreign musicologists, ethnomusicologists and experts from related disciplines are presented and evaluated. This section also contains a critical review of the discography of Serbian art music in 2020.
With great sadness, the editorial board of the journal Musicology bids farewell to the prematurely deceased composer Isidora Žebeljan, Professor at the Faculty of Music in Belgrade and Fellow of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, with an inspired, comprehesive obituary written by a fellow composer, Professor Milana Stojadinović-Milić. Žebeljan’s original, vivid works have secured Serbian music a place on the world map that it previously did not have.
