AB - Polyaniline (PANI) enzyme electrode was formed by immobilisation of Glucose oxidase (GOx) via glutaraldehyde into electrochemically polymerised PANI on graphite electrode. Electrochemical polymerisation of PANI on graphite was performed from aqueous solution of 1.0 mol dm−3 HCl and 0.25 mol dm−3 aniline at constant current density of 2.0 mA cm−2. Hronopotentiometric curves of the PANI enzyme electrode obtained at current density of 10 μA cm−2 were recorded in different glucose concentrations. The linearity response range was between 1.0 and 5.0 mmol dm−3 of glucose concentration. The estimated apparent Michaelis–Menten constant, was Km′ = 0.30 mmol dm−3, which is significantly lower than that of free enzyme.

AB - The present study compares the results of two different methods employed for preparation of polyaniline based glucose biosensor with respect to enzyme loading, biosensing efficiency and potential stability. Kinetic analysis of the potentiometric data for two enzyme immobilized electrode systems show that the GOx/PANI electrode is suitable for assaying samples with low analyte concentrations, whereas the GOx/m-ABA/PANI electrode system exhibits a better potential stability. It may therefore be possible to achieve high level of biosensing efficiency by chemical modeling and synthesis combined with careful selection of the immobilization method.

AB - Electrochemical behavior of zinc and polyaniline (PANI) electrode polymerized from 0.1 M HCl and 0.1 M aniline on graphite electrode, in 0.2 M ZnCl2 and 0.50 M NH4Cl (chloride electrolyte) and with addition of 0.33 M Na-citrate (chloride/citrate electrolyte) were investigated. In the chloride/citrate comparing with chloride containing electrolyte for the zinc electrode negative shift of the open circuit potential of 150 mV, decreases of exchange current density for more than order of magnitude and increase of cathodic Tafel slope, due to the zinc ions complexation, were observed. In citrate/chloride electrolyte zinc dendrite formation were completely suppressed. PANI electrodes show better discharge characteristic in chloride/citrate electrolyte with determined maximum discharge capacity of 164 mAh g-1.

AB - Polyaniline electrode, was obtained by electrochemical polymerization at constant current density of 2.0 mA cm-2 from aqueous solution of 1.0 mol dm-3 HCl containing 0.25 mol dm-3 aniline. Electrochemical characterization of the polyaniline electrode in chloride and chloride/citrate electrolyte, for different anodic potential limits, was performed using cyclic voltammetry and galvanostatic measurements. It was observed that for anodic potential 0.32 V, higher electrode capacity in chloride/citrate was obtained. For anodic potential limit of 0.50 V, faster decrease of the electrode capacity in chloride/citrate electrolyte was also observed. It was suggested that influence of both chloride and citrate anions has to be taken into account.

Electrochemical characterization of the PANI electrode was performed in 0.5 mol dm-3 HCl using cyclic voltammetry and galvanostatic measurements. The overall charge capacity of the PANI electrode was estimated to be 0.154 mA h cm-2, corresponding to 25 % of the theoretical mass of PANI available for the dopant exchange. It was observed that during initial cyclization at low pH, the extent of PANI degradation products was insignificant and practically had no influence on the charge/discharge characteristics of the PANI electrode.

AB - Poster presented at the 37th International conference of the Slovak Society of Chemical Engineering, Vysoké Tatry, Slovakia, May 24-28, 2010
AB - Electrochemical behavior of zinc and polyaniline (PANI) electrode polymerized from 0.1 M HCl and 0.1 M aniline on graphite electrode, in 0.2 M ZnCl2 and 0.50 M NH4Cl (chloride electrolyte) and with addition of 0.33 M Na-citrate (chloride/citrate electrolyte) were investigated. PANI electrodes show better discharge characteristic in chloride/citrate electrolyte with determined maximum discharge capacity of 164 mAh g-1

AB - Electrochemical power sources consisted of electroconducting polymers combined to electronegative metals and aqueous based electrolytes are likely to accomplish most of the three E criteria (Energy, Economics and Environment) elaborated as the determining factors of an electrochemical power system success. In such systems electroconducting polymers, mainly polyaniline (PANI) due to their ability of reversible oxidation (doping)/reduction (dedoping) could be used as cathodic materials, while owing to relatively low discharge potentials, it is necessary to use electronegative metals such as: magnesium, aluminum and zinc as anodic materials.

AB - This paper addresses on investigation the possibility of electrolytic treatment the sulphur acidic waste solution, obtained in the conventional electrolytic copper refining process. Beside the high copper concentration, the high concentration of other metals, in this case nickel, is the main characteristic of these waste solutions. Due to this fact, the copper bearing anodes with non-standard nickel, lead, tin and antimony content were specially prepared for the refining process. Nickel content of all anodes was approximately 7.5 mass%, and the content of lead, tin and antimony was varied. The preliminary results, obtained using the standard electrochemical techniques, have indicated that the copper bearing anodes could be used under the same conditions as well as in the conventional copper refining process. The measurements in constant galvanostatic pulse have pointed out that the all chemical elements from copper bearing anodes were dissolved and only copper was deposited onto the cathode. It was also pointed out that Ni concentration in the base working electrolyte (sulphur acidic waste solution), after 72 h of process, increased to 102 mass% at T-1 = 63 +/- 2 degrees C and up to 122 mass% at T-1 = 73 +/- 2 degrees C, while arsenic concentration decreased to a minimum value.

Corrosion current densities were determined from the mass lost and from potentiodinamic (1 mV s-1) measurements. It was concluded that magnesium and aluminum are not suitable anodic materials for use in primary electrochemical power sources. On the other hand, it was concluded that zinc could be considered as possible anodic material in both primary and secondary electrochemical power sources.

AB - The electrochemical reduction of 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT) was investigated by cyclic voltammetry on a platinum electrode in aqueous sodium chloride solutions with acetonitrile containing different concentrations of TNT. The obtained cyclic voltammograms showed three distinct reduction peaks in the potential range of -0.45 to -0.8 V (vs. an Ag/AgCl (3 M KCl) reference electrode), which refer to the multi-step process of TNT reduction. The calibration curves of the dependence of the first peak current on the TNT concentration were linear in the ranges 4.4-638.4 μM and 0.11-4.40 μM for two different scan rates, 200 mV s-1 and 20 mV s-1, respectively. The detection limit was 0.11 μM. Acetonitrile chemisorption on Pt surface took place and caused thus modified platinum electrode to exhibit an electrochemically stabile behaviour. Hence, a very high reproducibility over a prolonged time and voltammetric cycling was provided for using a Pt wire that is easy to handle as a suitable material for TNT sensing. Additionally, it was confirmed by testing the acetonitrile modified Pt wire for TNT detection in river water. © 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

AB - Polyaniline (PANI) on graphite electrode was synthesized electrochemically under galvanostatic condition at current density of 2.0 mA cm-2 from aqueous solution of 1.0 moldm-3 HCl and 0.25 mol dm-3 aniline monomer. Electrochemical characterization of the PANI electrode was performed in 0.5 mol dm-3 HCl using cyclic voltammetry and galvanostatic measurements. The overall charge capacity of the PANI electrode was estimated to be 0.154 mA h cm-2, which corresponds to 25% of the theoretical mass of PANI available for doping exchange. It was observed that during initial cyclization at low pH, the extent of PANI degradation products was insigni cant and practically had no infuence on the charge/discharge characteristics of the PANI electrode. .

AB - Corrosion behavior of magnesium, aluminum and zinc in 0.2 mol dm(-3) NH4Cl; 0.1 mol dm(-3) NH4Cl with addition of 0.1 mol dm(-3) Na-citrate and corrosion behavior of zinc in 0.3 mol dm-3 NH4Cl with addition of 0.8 mol dm(-3) Na-citrate and different concentration of ZnCl2 were investigated. Corrosion current densities were determinated from the mass lost and from potentiodynamic (1 mV s(-1)) measurements. It was concluded that magnesium and aluminum are not suitable anodic materials for use in primary electrochemical power sources. On the other hand, it was concluded that zinc could be considered as possible anodic material in both primary and secondary electrochemical power sources.

AB - The kinetics of the oxidation Of D-glucose to D-gluconic acid by bromine in aqueous solution were studied using potentiometric techniques and theoretical considerations of complex bromine-bromide-pH equilibria. The pH has a strong influence on reaction rate. At pH lt 8 the reaction is very slow, while in the pH range pH 8-9.5 the reaction is sufficiently fast and seems optimal for the reaction. The proposed active species at that pH region is hypobromous acid. At pH gt 9.5, the reaction is further accelerated due to the formation of hypobromite. The proposed kinetics expression for gluconic acid formation, based on the determined kinetic parameters at pH 9.24, is of the form dc(GA)/dt = 160c(2)(G)c(0)(HOBr)c(0)(H+)c(0)(Br)
