Диелектрична керамика баријум‑стронцијум‑титаната

AB  - С обзиром на то да развој савремене технике није могућ без нових ма‑ теријала, што је објективно последица достигнућа у области науке о материјалима, аутор се у овој монографији бави керамичким материјали‑ ма који већ дуги низ година имају значајну улогу у свим областима дело‑ вања савременог човека, посебно баријум‑стронцијум‑титанатом. Наводи се да су материјали на бази BST широко прихваћена тема истраживања због своје високе пермитивности, малог диелектричног губитка, високог коефицијента подешавања, велике брзине реакције, способности против квара, једноставног процеса производње итд. Као додатна предност, они не садржe олово и стога су у складу са тренутним захтевима за еколошки нешкодљиве материјале, што их чини веома атрактивним за потенцијалне примене. Имајући наведено у виду, а узимајући у обзир значај ових мате‑ ријала као фероелектрика, ова монографија се бави проучавањем нових материјала на бази баријум‑стронцијум‑титаната односно његове синтезе под контролисаним условима механичке активације и синтеровања ради даље функционалне примене у електронској индустрији. Аутор се у монографији бави утицајем механичке активације на процес формирања Ba1‑x SrxTiO3(BST) керамике синтеровањем у чврстој фази, која обезбеђује добру хомогеност прахова, доводи до снижења температуре калцинације и омогућава синтезу BST керамикe дефинисаног фазног састава. Баријум‑стронцијум‑титанат је припремљен од почетних материјала BaCO3, SrCO3 и TiO2 кроз реакције у чврстом стању. Мешавине ових оксида механички су активиране у високоенергетском планетарном млину у различитим временским интервалима од 0 до 120 минута у атмосфери ваздуха. Карактеризација прахова је урађена путем X‑ray анализе и пре‑ ко DTA и TG анализе на 1100°C, а расподела величине честица заједно са скенирајућом електронском микроскопијом дале су аутору веома корисне информације о морфологији праха. Микроструктурна анализа показује да продужавање трајања механичке активације резултира мањом просечном величином кристалита, повећањем вредности микродеформација и мини‑ малне густине дислокације. Након механичке активације почетних прахова, узорци су калциниса‑ ни и пресовани, а затим синтеровани у коморној лабораторијској пећи. Изотермско синтеровање пресованих узорака рађено је на температу‑ рама од 1100 до 1400°C у временским интервалима од 0 до 120 минута у атмосфери ваздуха. Ова анализа показује комплексан ендотермни пик у температурном региону 800–1000°C, који се помера ка нижим температу‑ рама и смањује интензитет са повећањем времена механичке активације. Ово указује да механичка активација не само да снижава почетну температуру процеса синтеровања, већ га такође олакшава и смањује укупну енталпију синтеровања, што указује на мању потрошњу енергије са по‑ већањем времена механичке активације. Наводи се да су ови ефекти били израженији у узорцима са већим садржајем стронцијума. Електрична мерења су спроведена за најгушће керамике синтероване на 1400°C два сата. Синтерованим узорцима мерена су микроталасна електрична својства, као што су фактор доброте Q, специфична електрична отпорност (ρ) и диелектрична константа (εr). Електрична својства синтерованих узорака показују доминантан утицај механичке активације у временима активације од 5 до 80 минута. Диелектрична пермитивност у механички активираним узорцима је нижа од оне у неактивираном узор‑ ку. Тренд промене диелектричне пермитивности указује да се ово може до‑ вести у корелацију са секундарном агломерацијом, јер узорци активирани 80 минута показују најнижу вредност диелектричне пермитивности. На основу резултата произашлих из овог експеримента створени су услови за контролу структуре баријум‑стронцијум‑титаната путем пара‑ метара синтезе, а тиме је омогућено добијање материјала са унапред зада‑ тим својствима који могу наћи широку примену у области електронике. Циљ ове монографије је да покаже утицај механичке активације и режи‑ ма синтеровања на промену структуре и електрична својства BST керамике. На основу детаљне анализе температурске зависности, реалне диелек‑ тричне пропустљивости и тангенса угла губитака, као и утицаја механичке активације на промену фреквентних карактеристика биће дефинисани оп‑ тимални технолошки параметри задобијање Ba0,77Sr0,23TiO3 керамике уна‑ пређених електричних карактеристика. Аутор се нада да ће ова монографија бити од помоћи истраживачима у овој важној, динамичној области савремених материјала у електротехници.
AB  - Modern technological development is not possible without novel materials, where these materials are objectively a consequence of achievements in the field of materials science. This monograph deals with ceramic materials that have, for many years, been playing a significant role in all areas of modern civilization, in particular barium strontium titanate. BST materials have been a widely welcomed topic due to its high permittivity, low dielectric loss, high tunability coefficient, high reaction velocity, anti‑breakdown ability, and simple fabrication process, etc. As an additional advantage, BST family is lead‑free, and therefore compliant with current requirements for environmentally benign materials, making it very attractive for potential applications. Having this in mind, and taking into account the importance of these materials as ferroelectrics, this monograph presents a study of new materials based on barium strontium titanate, and their synthesis under controlled conditions of mechanical activation and sintering for further functional application in the electronics industry. In the monograph, the author examined the influence of mechanical activation on the process of formation of Ba1‑x SrxTiO3 (BST) ceramics using the solid‑state sintering method. The use of the method of mechanical activation ensures a good homogeneity of powders, lowers the calcination temperature, and enables the synthesis of BST ceramics of pre‑defined phase composition. Barium strontium titanate was prepared from the starting materials BaCO3, SrCO3 and TiO2 through solid state reaction. Mixtures of these oxides are mechanically activated in a high‑energy planetary mill at various time intervals from 0 to 120 minutes in air. Powder characterization was done by X‑ray analysis, by DTA and TG analysis at 1100°C, and by particle size distribution combined with scanning electron microscopy. These provided very detailed information about the powder morphology. Microstructural analysis shows that the increase duration of mechanical activation results in lower average crystallite size, and increased values of microstrain and minimal dislocation density. After mechanical activation of the initial powders, samples were calcined and pressed and then sintered in a chamber laboratory furnace. Isothermal sintering of extruded samples was performed at temperatures from 1100 to 1400°C for 0 to 120 minutes in air. This shows a complex endothermic peak in 800–1000°C temperature region, which shifts to lower temperatures and decreases in intensity with the increase in mechanical activation time. This indicates that mechanical activation not only reduces the onset temperature of the sintering process, but also facilitates it and reduces the overall enthalpy of sintering, indicating a reduction of energy consumption with increase in mechanical activation time. Electrical measurements were performed for the densest ceramics sintered at 1400°C for two hours, measuring microwave electrical properties, such as goodness factor (Q), specific electrical resistance (ρ) and dielectric constant (εr). Electrical properties of sintered BST‑S samples show the dominant influence of mechanical activation at activation times from 5 to 80 minutes. Dielectric permittivity in mechanically activated samples is lower than that in non‑activated samples. The trend of change of dielectric permittivity suggests that this can be correlated with secondary agglomeration, because samples activated for 80 minutes exhibit the lowest value of dielectric permittivity. Based on the results obtained from this experiment, synthesis conditions were defined to control the structure of barium strontium titanate through synthesis parameters, enabling the production of materials with predetermined properties that can find wide application in the field of electronics. The author hopes that this monograph would be useful to researchers in this important, dynamic field of modern materials in electrotechnics.

AB  - Magnesium aluminate and other alumina-based spinels attract attention due to their high hardness, high mechanical strength, and low dielectric constant. MgAl2O4 was produced by a solid-state reaction between MgO and α-Al2O3 powders. Mechanical activation for 30 min in a planetary ball mill was used to increase the reactivity of powders. Yttrium oxide and graphene were added to prevent abnormal grain growth during sintering. Samples were sintered by hot pressing under vacuum at 1450 °C. Phase composition and microstructure of sintered specimens were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. Rietveld analysis revealed 100% pure spinel phase in all sintered specimens, and a decrease in crystallite size with the addition of yttria or graphene. Density measurements indicated that the mechanically activated specimen reached 99.6% relative density. Furthermore, the highest solar absorbance and highest spectral selectivity as a function of temperature were detected for the mechanically activated specimen with graphene addition. Mechanical activation is an efficient method to improve densification of MgAl2O4 prepared from mixed oxide powders, while additives improve microstructure and optical properties.

Decreasing the implementation costs of smart metering systems with interoperability

AB  - This paper describes the importance of the interoperability in smart metering systems for modern distribution system operators. The lack of interoperability significantly increases the costs of smart metering system implementation for distribution system operators, especially the costs of purchasing new equipment. The replacement, cleanup and maintenance of electricity meters produced by different manufacturers, which are not interoperable, are also much more complex and expensive. Furthermore, without the interoperability, the system cannot be observable, i.e. the observability exists only for some particular segments of the system. This prevents many functionalities of distribution management system. In terms of interoperability, smart metering systems have gone through four different stages. A comparison of the system implementation costs for these four stages is presented for distribution system operator of Serbia.

AB  - Quantified assessment of spasticity is essential for the rehabilitation of persons with paralysis. We introduce the new SPAsticity Scale (SPAS), which we found highly correlated with the Modified Ashworth Score (MAS); yet, with a delicate gradation of spasticity compared to the MAS. The parameters defining the SPAS show the level and the type of spasticity (flexion or extension). The SPAS is based on a complex model of the pendulum type oscillations of the lower leg, which includes the spastic torques. The data to calculate SPAS were collected by a wearable instrument with two inertial measurement units and two EMG recording units in subjects with a complete chronic spinal cord injury.

AB  - The Global Energy Crisis necessitated improving research into new, renewable and alternative energy sources. Due to that, our focus is on the area of some phenomena and applications where different synthetic methods and micro-structure property optimization achieved significant improvement in the electro physical properties of output materials and components. This is especially important for higher energy efficiency and electricity production (batteries and battery systems, fuel cells, and hydrogen energy).The improvement of energy storage tank capacity is one of the most important development issues in the energy sphere too. It is because of this very promising research and application area that we are expanding the knowledge on these phenomena through fractal nature analysis. So, the results obtained in the field of electrochemical energy sources, especially in electrolyte development, are taken into account the analysis of fractal nature optimization. Based on the research field of fractal material science, particularly electronic materials, we conducted research in micro-structure fractal influence in the area of electrochemistry. We investigated the consolidation parameters of Fe2O3 redox processes. The influence of activation energy, fundamental thermodynamic parameters, and also the fractal correction of electrode surface area through complex fractal dimension with recognized grains and pores, and the Brownian motion of particles is introduced. Finally, the electrochemical Butler-Volmer equation fractalization is obtained. These results practically open new frontiers in electrochemical energy processes performed through the Arrhenius equation within electrolyte bulk and electrode relations and more complete and precise energy generation.

AB  - In this paper, we present the results of an experimental study about a novel fiber optical vibrometer, aimed to be used as a totally implantable fiber-optic microphone for hearing aids. The sensor head, implanted inside the human cadaver middle ear, detects the amplitude of the incus vibrations, which are produced by an external acoustical source. The probe beam of coherent vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL) radiation is directed to the incus and the phase-modulated reflected beam is captured and demodulated. The problem of interferometric fading was solved using two quasi-quadrature signals, passively produced by the 3 × 3 single-mode fiber-optic coupler, processed by a special embedded algorithm. The implanted optoelectronic module works with very low-power consumption, performs real-time signal processing and outputs an analogue signal proportional to the incus vibration. The amplitude of the incus vibrations at different sound pressure levels (SPL) from 40 to 90 dB and at frequencies from 100 Hz to 10 kHz were measured by the implanted system. The system was evaluated on five cadaver skulls. The measured amplitudes were in the range of 1 pm to 5 nm, depending on the subjected skull and the applied sound pressure.

Point defects and their effect on dielectric permittivity in strontium titanate ceramics

AB  - The origin of dielectric properties of strontium titanate ceramics is investigated using DFT calculations in periodic system. It was determined that the main factors contributing to the increase in dielectric permittivity are: tetragonal distortion of the normally cubic lattice, and charge imbalance induced displacement of titanium center from its central position. Oxygen vacancies were determined to create significantly larger effects than other types of vacancies, like Ti and SrO. The extent of tetragonal distortion was found to be determined by oxygen vacancy distribution, rather than total concentration: relatively symmetrical distribution of oxygen vacancies resulted in smaller tetragonal distortion of the lattice, and, consequently, smaller increase in dielectric permittivity. Charge imbalance naturally destabilizes the cubic lattice, forcing the Ti-atom out of its central position, resulting in tetragonal lattice with increased dielectric permittivity. The process stabilizes the strontium titanate lattice, while increasing the c/a ratio. Therefore, the dielectric permittivity of strontium titanate can be increased by changes to the system that increase tetragonal distortion of the lattice and/or introduce additional negative charge.

AB  - Nanostructured Fe2TiO5 (pseudobrookite), a mixed metal oxide material holds significant promise for utilization in energy and environmental applications. However, its full application is still hindered due to the difficulty to synthesize monophasic Fe2TiO5 with high crystallinity and a large specific surface area. Herein, Fe2TiO5 nanofibers were synthesized via a versatile and low-cost electrospinning method, followed by a calcination process at different temperatures. We found a significant effect of the calcination process and its duration on the crystalline phase in the form of either pseudobrookite or pseudobrookite–hematite–rutile and the morphology of calcined nanofibers. The crystallite size increased whereas the specific surface area decreased with an increase in calcination temperature. At higher temperatures, the growth of Fe2TiO5 nanoparticles and simultaneous coalescence of small particles was noted. The highest specific surface area was obtained for the sample calcined at 500 °C for 6 h (SBET = 64.4 m2 g−1). This work opens new opportunities in the synthesis of Fe2TiO5 nanostructures using the electrospinning method and a subsequent optimized calcination process for energy-related applications.

AB  - In this paper, we present the results of an experimental study about a novel fiber optical vibrometer, aimed to be used as a totally implantable fiber-optic microphone for hearing aids. The sensor head, implanted inside the human cadaver middle ear, detects the amplitude of the incus vibrations, which are produced by an external acoustical source. The probe beam of coherent vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL) radiation is directed to the incus and the phase-modulated reflected beam is captured and demodulated. The problem of interferometric fading was solved using two quasi-quadrature signals, passively produced by the 3 × 3 single-mode fiber-optic coupler, processed by a special embedded algorithm. The implanted optoelectronic module works with very low-power consumption, performs real-time signal processing and outputs an analogue signal proportional to the incus vibration. The amplitude of the incus vibrations at different sound pressure levels (SPL) from 40 to 90 dB and at frequencies from 100 Hz to 10 kHz were measured by the implanted system. The system was evaluated on five cadaver skulls. The measured amplitudes were in the range of 1 pm to 5 nm, depending on the subjected skull and the applied sound pressure.

Integer Codes Correcting Single Errors within Two Bytes

AB  - This paper presents a class of integer codes suitable for use in optical networks with low error rates. The presented codes are constructed with the help of a computer and have two important features: first, they can correct single errors affecting one or two b-bit bytes, and second, they use processor-friendly operations to encode/decode data bits. The effectiveness of the presented codes is demonstrated on theoretical models of four-core and six-core processors. The obtained results show that the decoder throughput reaches 14.70Gbps, which is above the operating speed of 10G networks. Finally, the paper compares the proposed codes with BCH codes of similar properties. The comparison is made in terms of redundancy and the number of decoding operations.

AB  - This paper describes the importance of the interoperability in smart metering systems for modern distribution system operators. The lack of interoperability significantly increases the costs of smart metering system implementation for distribution system operators, especially the costs of purchasing new equipment. The replacement, cleanup and maintenance of electricity meters produced by different manufacturers, which are not interoperable, are also much more complex and expensive. Furthermore, without the interoperability, the system cannot be observable, i.e. the observability exists only for some particular segments of the system. This prevents many functionalities of distribution management system. In terms of interoperability, smart metering systems have gone through four different stages. A comparison of the system implementation costs for these four stages is presented for distribution system operator of Serbia.

AB  - Kao jedan od najzastupljenijih biopolimera na Zemlji, celuloza je našla primenu u prehrambenoj industriji, biomedicini i biotehnologiji. Dobijanje celuloznih vlakana iz biljaka je praćeno prisustvom nusproizvoda, čije je uklanjanje zahtevan proces. Stoga, materijali na bazi bakterijske nanoceluloze (BCN), nalaze sve širu primenu u svakodnevnici. Imajući u vidu prednosti BCN, u ovom radu su ispitivane promene u strukturi i morfologiji BCN u funkciji parametara sinteze. Analiziran je uticaj vrste i zapremine medijuma, kao i dužine prečišćavanja u NaOH, na promene u prinosu i strukturi BCN. Navedene promene su ispitivane metodama XRD, FTIR, kao i primenom SEM i EDS analize.
AB  - As one of the most common biopolymers on Earth, cellulose has found an important role in food industry, biomedicine andbiotechnology. The process of obtaining cellulose fibers is often followed with the presence of the byproduct, whose removal is required procedure. From that reason, the process of obtaining material on a bacterial cellulose (BC) basis,finds wide application in everyday life. Having in mind her many features, we have investigated the change in structure and morphology of BC depending on the synthesis parameters. The influence of the medium volume and different time intervals of NaOH treatment relative to different BCN yields and structure. The mentioned changes were examined by XRD, FTIR spectroscopy, as well as SEM and EDS analyzes.

Solvothermal synthesis of NaGdYF4:Yb,Er UCNPs with different structual, morphological and optical properties

AB  - Up-Converting NanoParticles (UCNPs) with biocompatible surface and unique optical properties, low phonon energy (350 cm-1) and high chemical stability attract a great interest as potential biomarkers or drug delivery systems. The hydro/solvo thermal method, as one of the most economical method which do not include the use of toxic precursors, was applied here for the synthesis of NaY0.65Gd0.15F4:Yb,Er nanoparticles at 200oC. Chitosan is used as surfactant and structural directing agent. In addition, different processing parameters (precursor concentration, solvent type, and synthesis time) were applied to investigate their influence on the structural, morphological, and optical properties of UCNP. The XRD analysis showed that with a smaller surplus of fluoride ions the formation of Y0.65Gd0.15F4:Yb,Er orthorhombic phase occurs, while the increase of fluoride content or reaction time leads to NaY0.65Gd0.15F4:Yb,Er cubic phase formation. Along with it, the changes of UCNPs morphology from spindle to spherical shape is detected. All samples emit intense green emission due to the (2H11/2, 4S3/2) → 4I15/2 electronic transitions, after been excited with infrared light (λ=978 nm).

Photoactivity of vanadium oxide TiO2 nanotubes

AB  - The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of vanadium oxide photosensitive surface layer on the photoactivity of TiO2 nanotubes. Nanotube arrays were synthesized by anodization of titanium foil at different voltages, and vanadium-oxide was deposited by wet chemical deposition. Deposition of the vanadium-oxide layer was confirmed by XPS analysis, which provided the chemical composition of the sample surface. Photovoltaic characteristics and photocatalytic performance for photodegradation of methyl orange dye of modified TiO2 nanotubes were correlated with the nanotube morphology (and anodization voltage). Optimal anodization voltage was determined, in conjunction with the deposition of the surface vanadium oxide layer, in order to achieve maximum performance of the modified TiO2 electrodes. This has been correlated with changes in the optical properties of the TiO2 electrodes, the nanotube length and diameter, as they occur with the change in the anodization voltage, as well as the changes in the vanadium-oxide content in the samples, where the vanadium-oxide content was found to be determined by the nanotube morphology. The photovoltaic performance of the optimized modified TiO2 electrode with the surface vanadium-oxide layer was found to be significantly better than both the performance of the corresponding TiO2 electrode, and the performance of all the other TiO2 electrodes included in the study.

abstract = "The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of vanadium oxide photosensitive surface layer on the photoactivity of TiO2 nanotubes. Nanotube arrays were synthesized by anodization of titanium foil at different voltages, and vanadium-oxide was deposited by wet chemical deposition. Deposition of the vanadium-oxide layer was confirmed by XPS analysis, which provided the chemical composition of the sample surface. Photovoltaic characteristics and photocatalytic performance for photodegradation of methyl orange dye of modified TiO2 nanotubes were correlated with the nanotube morphology (and anodization voltage). Optimal anodization voltage was determined, in conjunction with the deposition of the surface vanadium oxide layer, in order to achieve maximum performance of the modified TiO2 electrodes. This has been correlated with changes in the optical properties of the TiO2 electrodes, the nanotube length and diameter, as they occur with the change in the anodization voltage, as well as the changes in the vanadium-oxide content in the samples, where the vanadium-oxide content was found to be determined by the nanotube morphology. The photovoltaic performance of the optimized modified TiO2 electrode with the surface vanadium-oxide layer was found to be significantly better than both the performance of the corresponding TiO2 electrode, and the performance of all the other TiO2 electrodes included in the study.",

AB  - NiMn2O4, with a cubic spinel structure and numerous and various applications in modern technology, were synthesized with two synthetic routes: sol-gel combustion method with glycine as fuel and electrospinning method with polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP). Both amorphous powders from sol-gel synthesis and as-spun fibers from electrospinning synthesis were calcined, electrospun fibers at 400 °C and the sol-gel synthesized powders at 800 °C. Electrospun fibers were previously characterized with DTA-TGA to investigate the influence of thermal process on a polymer fiber.
The obtained powders were characterized accordingly. Structural analysis was done via X-ray diffraction (XRD) and results show spinel structure with no impurity. The texture and morphology was investigated via N2 physisorption and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), respectively. Chemical states of elements were investigated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The electrochemical performance of the synthesized materials as supercapacitors was tested via cyclic voltammetry (CV), electric impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and chronopotentiometry (CP) to aquire galvanostatic charge-discharge (GCD) curves. Experiments were done in 6 M KOH solution with nickel foam as a working electrode. The results show good electrochemical capacity circa 200 F/g, with the potential for further structural improvement of the materials.

AB  - We present the variability of the spasticity scores during three consecutive days using the case series clinical study data with spinal cord injured (SCI) subjects. We assessed the spasticity by the Pendulum Test (PT) and Ashworth Scale (AS) scores. We measured the spasticity on the three consecutive days before and after the period of the treatment. Three subjects with SCI participated in the study. We found large variability from day to day. The PT score had more significant variability compared with the AS. The results suggest that the three consecutive testing by using the pendulum test and PT score on different days provide a better assessment of spasticity being essential in evaluating the treatment protocol

A Fiber-optic Sensing Technique for Sub-micrometer Distance Measurement between the Surgical Tools and Retina

AB  - Many retina diseases require very often a delicate surgical intervention, which is performed by different minimally invasive instruments and tools. They must be miniature but still robust and capable to accurately determine the separation to the retina target in real-time. Because of that they have to be instrumented with a sensing technique, which may interactively read the actual distance toward the target without any risk of injuring the retina. In this paper, we present a fiber-optic sensing technique suitable for integration into surgical instruments. The technique is composed of low- and high-coherence interferometry that allows sub-micrometer absolute distance measurement between the surgical tools and retina without any scanning unit in the reference arm. The technique is demonstrated utilizing the experimental setup based on a 2x2 fiber-optic coupler simultaneously powered by an SLD and VCSEL as low- and high-coherence light sources, respectively. The sensing arm was directed toward the eye model, made of the inner silicon layer and outer polylactide (PLA) 3D printed eyeball. The distance between the sensing fiber tip and target has been measured using both low-and high-coherence interferograms over a rather large dynamic range of about 2 mm with the accuracy of 655 nm that corresponds with λ/2 of the high-coherence light source.

AB  - Kalcijum fosfati (CP), među kojima su amorfni kalcijum fosfat (ACP) i hidroksiapatit (HAp), zajedno sa slojevima Ti i TiO2, pronašli su ogromnu primenu u preventivnoj i regenerativnoj medicini zbog svoje odlične biokompatibilnosti, netoksičnih svojstava i sposobnosti da učestvuju u metaboličnim procesima organizama. U ovom radu je prikazana citotoksičnost multifunkcionalnih i hibridnih kompozitnih prevlaka amorfnog kalcijum fosfata (ACP) i hitozan laktata (ChOL) na ćelijskoj liniji humanih fibroblasta pluća MRC-5. ACP/TiO2 i ACP/TiO2/ChOL prevlake su taložene novim procesom in situ anodizacije/anaforetske depozicije pri konstantnom naponu od 60 V tokom 180 s na 25 ° C. Testovi citotoksičnosti pokazali su da nije bilo značajnog smanjenja preživljavanja zdravih ćelija MRC-5 u kompozitnim uzorcima Ti i ACP/TiO2, dok je došlo do povećanja broja viabilnih ćelija u uzorku ACP/TiO2/ChOL. Pokazano je poboljšanje ćelijske proliferacije, diferencijacije i viabilnosti ćelija. Uzorak koji sadrži ACP/TiO2/ChOL prevlaku pokazao je negativnu citotoksičnost u DET i u MTT testovima. Zabeležen je veći oporavak humanih ćelija fibroblasta pluća MRC-5 u poređenju sa kontrolnim uzorkom posle 48 h oporavka. Iz ovih rezultata može se zaključiti da multifunkcionalna kompozitna prevlaka ACP/TiO2/ChOL nije samo necitotoksična, već prisustvo ChOL-a u prevlaci poboljšava ćelijsku proliferaciju, diferencijaciju i viabilnost ćelija. Na osnovu dobijenih rezultata može se zaključiti da oba kompozitna materijala koji su korišćeni u studijama nisu citotoksični za korišćene ćelijske linije, te da 5 tež.% ChOL-a ima pozitivan efekat na netoksičnost materijala. Na osnovu prikazanih rezultata u ovom radu i prethodnih objavljenih rezultata fizičko-hemijskih i bioaktivnih svojstava kompozitnog materijala ACP/TiO2/ChOL, može se zaključiti da bi dalji razvoj, kao i potencijalne pretkliničke studije bili u velikoj meri opravdani.
AB  - Calcium phosphates (CP), amongst which amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP) and hydroxyapatite (HAp), along with Ti and TiO2 layers, have found vast applications in preventive and regenerative medicine due to their excellent biocompatibility, nontoxic properties and ability to participate in the normal metabolism of organisms. In this paper cytotoxicity of amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP) and chitosan lactate (ChOL) multifunctional and hybrid composite coatings on MRC-5 human lung fibroblast cell line is presented. ACP/TiO2 and ACP/TiO2/ChOL are deposited by coatings new in situ anodization/anaphoretic deposition process at constant voltage of 60 V for 180 s at 25 °C. Cytotoxicity tests showed that there was no significant decrease in the survival of healthy MRC-5 cells in the Ti and ACP/TiO2 composite samples, while there was an increase in the number of viable cells in the ACP/TiO2/ChOL sample. There is improved cell proliferation, differentiation and cell viability in the later. Sample containing ACP/TiO2/ChOL coating showed negative cytotoxicity in both DET and MTT tests. Greater recovery of MRC-5 human lung fibroblasts cells was observed compared to the control sample after 48 h of recovery. From these results, it can be concluded that not only the ACP/TiO2/ChOL multifunctional composite coating is non-cytotoxic, but the presence of ChOL in the coating improves cell proliferation, differentiation and cell viability. Based on the obtained results, it can be concluded that both composite materials used in the studies are non-cytotoxic to the cell lines used, and that 5 wt.% of ChOL has a positive effect on the non-toxicity of the material. Based on presented results in this paper and previous published results of the physicochemical and bioactive properties of the ACP/TiO2/ChOL composite material, it can be concluded that further development as well as potential preclinical studies would be largely justified.

abstract = "Kalcijum fosfati (CP), među kojima su amorfni kalcijum fosfat (ACP) i hidroksiapatit (HAp), zajedno sa slojevima Ti i TiO2, pronašli su ogromnu primenu u preventivnoj i regenerativnoj medicini zbog svoje odlične biokompatibilnosti, netoksičnih svojstava i sposobnosti da učestvuju u metaboličnim procesima organizama. U ovom radu je prikazana citotoksičnost multifunkcionalnih i hibridnih kompozitnih prevlaka amorfnog kalcijum fosfata (ACP) i hitozan laktata (ChOL) na ćelijskoj liniji humanih fibroblasta pluća MRC-5. ACP/TiO2 i ACP/TiO2/ChOL prevlake su taložene novim procesom in situ anodizacije/anaforetske depozicije pri konstantnom naponu od 60 V tokom 180 s na 25 ° C. Testovi citotoksičnosti pokazali su da nije bilo značajnog smanjenja preživljavanja zdravih ćelija MRC-5 u kompozitnim uzorcima Ti i ACP/TiO2, dok je došlo do povećanja broja viabilnih ćelija u uzorku ACP/TiO2/ChOL. Pokazano je poboljšanje ćelijske proliferacije, diferencijacije i viabilnosti ćelija. Uzorak koji sadrži ACP/TiO2/ChOL prevlaku pokazao je negativnu citotoksičnost u DET i u MTT testovima. Zabeležen je veći oporavak humanih ćelija fibroblasta pluća MRC-5 u poređenju sa kontrolnim uzorkom posle 48 h oporavka. Iz ovih rezultata može se zaključiti da multifunkcionalna kompozitna prevlaka ACP/TiO2/ChOL nije samo necitotoksična, već prisustvo ChOL-a u prevlaci poboljšava ćelijsku proliferaciju, diferencijaciju i viabilnost ćelija. Na osnovu dobijenih rezultata može se zaključiti da oba kompozitna materijala koji su korišćeni u studijama nisu citotoksični za korišćene ćelijske linije, te da 5 tež.% ChOL-a ima pozitivan efekat na netoksičnost materijala. Na osnovu prikazanih rezultata u ovom radu i prethodnih objavljenih rezultata fizičko-hemijskih i bioaktivnih svojstava kompozitnog materijala ACP/TiO2/ChOL, može se zaključiti da bi dalji razvoj, kao i potencijalne pretkliničke studije bili u velikoj meri opravdani., Calcium phosphates (CP), amongst which amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP) and hydroxyapatite (HAp), along with Ti and TiO2 layers, have found vast applications in preventive and regenerative medicine due to their excellent biocompatibility, nontoxic properties and ability to participate in the normal metabolism of organisms. In this paper cytotoxicity of amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP) and chitosan lactate (ChOL) multifunctional and hybrid composite coatings on MRC-5 human lung fibroblast cell line is presented. ACP/TiO2 and ACP/TiO2/ChOL are deposited by coatings new in situ anodization/anaphoretic deposition process at constant voltage of 60 V for 180 s at 25 °C. Cytotoxicity tests showed that there was no significant decrease in the survival of healthy MRC-5 cells in the Ti and ACP/TiO2 composite samples, while there was an increase in the number of viable cells in the ACP/TiO2/ChOL sample. There is improved cell proliferation, differentiation and cell viability in the later. Sample containing ACP/TiO2/ChOL coating showed negative cytotoxicity in both DET and MTT tests. Greater recovery of MRC-5 human lung fibroblasts cells was observed compared to the control sample after 48 h of recovery. From these results, it can be concluded that not only the ACP/TiO2/ChOL multifunctional composite coating is non-cytotoxic, but the presence of ChOL in the coating improves cell proliferation, differentiation and cell viability. Based on the obtained results, it can be concluded that both composite materials used in the studies are non-cytotoxic to the cell lines used, and that 5 wt.% of ChOL has a positive effect on the non-toxicity of the material. Based on presented results in this paper and previous published results of the physicochemical and bioactive properties of the ACP/TiO2/ChOL composite material, it can be concluded that further development as well as potential preclinical studies would be largely justified.",

Synthesis and structural characterization of some cathode materials for lithium-ion batteries

AB  - Lithium-ion batteries are under intense scrutiny as alternative energy/power sources. Their electrochemistry is based on intercalation/deintercalation reactions of lithium ions within a crystal structure of an electrode material. Therefore, the structure itself determines both the electrode operating voltage and the transport pathways for lithium ions. Some oxide- and polyanion-based materials are synthesized by using ultrasonic spray pyrolysis method. The crystal structure refinement was based on the Rietveld full profile method. All relevant structural and microstructural crystal parameters that could be significant for electrochemical intercalation/deintercalation processes were determined. It was also shown that the structural and microstructural properties are significantly dependent on the synthesis condition. Electrochemical performances as cathode materials for lithium-ion batteries were examined through galvanostatic charge/discharge cycling. Galvanostatic cycling revealed variation in discharge curve profiles. It comes from different mechanism of lithium intercalation and also from the degree of structural order. Structural analyses revealed difference in the dimensionality of lithium-ion motion.

Validation of the pendulum test in the assessment of muscle tone in persons with cerebral palsy

AB  - Introduction: Cerebral palsy (CP) is often accompanied by motor limitations, abnormal movements and spasticity. Precise and reproducible assessment of spasticity is essential for the selection and follow up of the therapeutic protocol. In clinics the spasticity is most often characterized with the estimate of resistance to a manual flexion and extension of a particular joint and use of a modified Ashworth scale (MAS). The MAS grading depends on the subjective assessment by the examiner.
Aim: The possible alternative is to use the pendulum test (PT) determined parameters for the quantitative assessment of the spasticity.
Material and Methods: We used a new instrument from the company 3F - Fit Fabricando Faber comprising inertial measurement units at the shank and thigh, and two EMG recording units to record electromyographic signals from the hamstrings and quadriceps muscles. The study included 48 subjects diagnosed with cerebral palsy.
Results: The analysis of results showed that the new measure based on the PT recordings is highly corelated with the muscle tone in CP patients, and automatically distinguishes the type of spasticity (flexion or extension), relaxation rate and spasticity strength.
Conclusion: The new measure showed sensitivity of the PT and indicates great potential of using the PT in the protocols for better control of spasticity in CP patients.

AB  - Rastvorljivost lekova predstavlja veoma važno svojstvo koje direktno utiče na njihovu primenu. S obzirom na činjenicu da rastvorljivost može delovati kao ograničavajući faktor u procesu apsorpcije leka, takođe može uticati i na njegovu bioraspoloživost. Više od 40% potencijalnih lekova su slabo rastvorni u vodi što ima za posledicu da važni farmaceutski proizvodi ne ostvare komercijalnu primenu ili ne postižu svoj potpuni potencijal. U ovom radu ispitivana je mogućnost poboljšanja rastvorljivosti verapamil hidrohlorida (VHCl) primenom mehanohemijskog tretmana. Uticaj mehanohemijskog procesiranja na fizičkohemijska svojstva VHCl-a ispitan je primenom metoda XRPD, FTIR i Ramanske spektroskopije, kao i FESEM analize. Osim toga, određena je i raspodela veličina čestica. Rastvorljivost VHCl prahova nakon mehanohemijskog procesiranja određena je UV-Vis spektrofotometrijom. Konačno, rastvorljivost VHCl je korelisana sa srednjom veličinom čestica, strukturnim i morfološkim karakteristikama.
AB  - Dissolution of drugs is a very important factor that directly affects their potential application. Due to the fact that solubility may act as a limiting factor in the process of absorption of the drug, it can also affect its bio-availableness. More than 40 percent of potential drugs have a property of a poor solubility in the water, resulting in potentially important pharmaceutical products not reaching patients or reaching their full potential. This work examined the possibility of improving the solubility of verapamil hydrochloride (VHCl) by applying mechanochemical treatment. The impact of mechanochemical treatment on physiochemical properties was comprehended by applying XRPD, FTIR and Raman spectroscopy, as well as FESEM analysis. Besides, particle size distribution was determined. Solubility of verapamil hydrochloride was determined by using UV-VIS spectroscopy. Finally, the solubility of verapamil hydrochloride was correlated with particle size distribution, structural and morphological characteristics.

The influence of self-doping on electrochemical synthesis and behaviour of polyaniline

AB  - Electrochemical synthesis was used to polymerize aniline and copolymerize aniline and m-aminobenzoic from aqueous acidic electrolyte containing aniline and aniline with different amount of m-aminobenzoic acid. These materials were obtained galvanostatically at graphite electrode at current density of 1.0 mA cm-2 from aqueous electrolyte containing 1.0 mol dm-3 HCl and different amount of monomers. The effect of self-doping due to meta positioned carboxylic group was observed in both synthesis parameters, morphology, degree of oxidation and electrochemical behaviour. The presence of m-aminobenzoic acid led higher copolymerization increasing with the increase of amount of m-aminobenzoic acid if comparing to polymerization potential of aniline. Moreover, the copolymer with equal amount of aniline/m-aminobenzoic acid showed electrochemical activity in neutral electrolyte which might be due to possibility of proton exchange process which can be expelled from the copolymer during oxidation process together by insertion of anions, making this material promising for use in electrochemical biosensors.
AB  - Elektrohemijski postupak korišćen je za polimerizaciju anilina i kopolimerizaciju anilina i m-aminobenzoeve kiseline iz kiselog vodenog rastvora elektrolita sa različitim molskim odnosima anilina i m-aminobezoeve kiseline. Ovi materijali dobijeni su uslovima konstantne gustine struje od 1,0 mA cm-2 iz kiselog vodenog elektrolita koji je sadržavao 1,0 mol dm-3 HCl, anilin i m-aminobenzoevu kiselinu. Uticaj samo-dopovanja koji je posledica prisustva karboskilne grupe u meta položaju ispoljavao se u različitim parametrima sinteze, morfologiji dobijenih materijala, stepenu oksidacije i elektrohemijskom ponašanju. Prisustvo m-aminobenzoeve kiseline uslovilo je veći potencijal sinteze kopolimera u odnosu na polianilin koji je rastao sa porastom udela m-aminobezoeve kiseline. Kopolimer koji je dobijen iz elektrolita sa jednakim molskim odnosom anilina i m-aminobenzoeve kiseline pokazao je elektrohemijsku aktivnost u neutralnom elektrolitu koja može biti posledica razmene protona što ovaj materijal čini perspektivnim za praktičnu primenu u elektrohemijskim biosenzorima.

abstract = "Electrochemical synthesis was used to polymerize aniline and copolymerize aniline and m-aminobenzoic from aqueous acidic electrolyte containing aniline and aniline with different amount of m-aminobenzoic acid. These materials were obtained galvanostatically at graphite electrode at current density of 1.0 mA cm-2 from aqueous electrolyte containing 1.0 mol dm-3 HCl and different amount of monomers. The effect of self-doping due to meta positioned carboxylic group was observed in both synthesis parameters, morphology, degree of oxidation and electrochemical behaviour. The presence of m-aminobenzoic acid led higher copolymerization increasing with the increase of amount of m-aminobenzoic acid if comparing to polymerization potential of aniline. Moreover, the copolymer with equal amount of aniline/m-aminobenzoic acid showed electrochemical activity in neutral electrolyte which might be due to possibility of proton exchange process which can be expelled from the copolymer during oxidation process together by insertion of anions, making this material promising for use in electrochemical biosensors., Elektrohemijski postupak korišćen je za polimerizaciju anilina i kopolimerizaciju anilina i m-aminobenzoeve kiseline iz kiselog vodenog rastvora elektrolita sa različitim molskim odnosima anilina i m-aminobezoeve kiseline. Ovi materijali dobijeni su uslovima konstantne gustine struje od 1,0 mA cm-2 iz kiselog vodenog elektrolita koji je sadržavao 1,0 mol dm-3 HCl, anilin i m-aminobenzoevu kiselinu. Uticaj samo-dopovanja koji je posledica prisustva karboskilne grupe u meta položaju ispoljavao se u različitim parametrima sinteze, morfologiji dobijenih materijala, stepenu oksidacije i elektrohemijskom ponašanju. Prisustvo m-aminobenzoeve kiseline uslovilo je veći potencijal sinteze kopolimera u odnosu na polianilin koji je rastao sa porastom udela m-aminobezoeve kiseline. Kopolimer koji je dobijen iz elektrolita sa jednakim molskim odnosom anilina i m-aminobenzoeve kiseline pokazao je elektrohemijsku aktivnost u neutralnom elektrolitu koja može biti posledica razmene protona što ovaj materijal čini perspektivnim za praktičnu primenu u elektrohemijskim biosenzorima.",

AB  - Electrochemical oxidative polymerization at constant current density was used to produce polypyrrole (PPY) at graphite electrode from aqueous acidic electrolyte containing 0,1 mol dm-3 pyrrole and 1,0 mol dm-3 HCl. PPY electrode was than used as cathode while zinc electrode served as anode in electrochemical cell with an aqueous electrolyte containing 2,0 mol dm-3 NH4Cl and 1,1 mol dm-3 ZnCl2. The relevant electrochemical parameters of this cell were evaluated from electrochemical experiments. It was observed that charge of Zn|PPY cell started at voltage between 0,5 and 0,7 V and proceeded up to 1,5 V. Charge/discharge of the cell was dependent on charge/discharge current density with open circuit voltage of the fully discharged cell around 1,3 V. The estimated values of specific energy were between 46 and 68 W h kg-1 while specific power values were between 125 and 380 W kg-1, which suggested that Zn|PPY cell had “supercapaterry” behavior.
AB  - Elektroda na bazi polipirola (PPY) dobijena je elektrohemijskom oksidativnom polimerizacijom na grafitnoj elektrodi u uslovima konstantne gustine struje. Kao elektrolit za sintezu, korišćen je vodeni rastvor 0,1 mol dm-3 pirola i 1,0 mol dm-3 HCl. Formirana je elektrohemijska ćelija u kojoj je elektroda na bazi PPY korišćena kao katoda dok je anoda bila elektroda od cinka, a elektrolit se sastojao od vodenog rastvora 2,0 mol dm-3 NH4Cl i 1,1 mol dm-3 ZnCl2. Procena relevantnih elektrohemijskih i električnih parametara ove ćelije bazirana je na elektrohemijskim eksperimentima. Utvrđeno je da je proces punjenja/pražnjenja zavisio od struje punjenja/pražnjenja, punejnje ćelije započinje na naponu između 0,5 i 0,7 V, a završava se na naponu od oko 1,3 V. Procenjene vrednosti energije bile su između 46 i 68 W h kg-1, dok se za specifičnu snagu dobijaju vrednosti između 125 i 380 W kg-1, što ukazuje na superkapabaterijska svojstva Zn|PPY ćelije.

AB  - Increased plastic usage creates environmental problems due to its accumulation and degradation into microplastic particles (MP), less than 5 mm in diameter. Particles from various sources like food and beverages contaminated with polyethylene terephthalate (PET) could accumulate in different tissues exerting adverse effects. Since data regarding potential acute toxicity in doses that represent realistic/daily ingested MP doses are entirely lacking, male Wistar rats were exposed to a single dose (1.4, 35 or 125 mg/kg) of PET-generated MP by oral gavage. Changes in wet organ weight to body weight ratio of testicles, adrenal glands and kidneys were examined 24 h following the treatment. Results point to increased organ/body weight ratio of testicles in rats exposed to two higher MP doses, while adrenal glands were augmented only after treatment with 125 mg/kg. Further research is needed to gain insight into the underlying mechanisms of the observed phenomenon.

AB  - In this preliminary study, we applied the Multivariate Curve Resolution- Alternating Least Squares (MCR-ALS) method to analyze the excitation-emission matrices of multifloral honey samples, combined with differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) to estimate infection of honey bee colonies with N. ceranae or V. destructor. Fluorescence spectroscopy combined with MCR-ALS was used to determine the ratio of the spectral components originating from proteins (C1) and phenolics (C2), two minor but essential constituents of honey, as a ratiometric indicator of infection level in related hives. The C1/C2 ratio decreased linearly with the increase of infection in both N. ceranae and V. destructor cases, the R2 was 0.941 and 0.912, respectively. Additionally, DSC has shown that the magnitude of changes in sugar environments of the honey samples, reflected in sugar phase transitions, rises with increasing infection level in bee colonies. These results indicate that fluorescence combined with MCR-ALS could be used for rapid, non-destructive and cheap screening of honey to estimate the level of infection of honey bee colonies.
