AB - Mixtures of BaCO3-ZnO-TiO2 were mechanically activated using high-energy planetary ball mill during 20, 40 and 80 min. As the time of mechanical activation increased, the decrease in particle size was observed. The effect of milling on microstructure was investigated by scanning electron microscopy, as well. Sintering process was performed in air at 1100 and 1200 C for 2 h. Various phases are present within mixtures sintered at 1100 and 1200 degrees C, and almost pure BaZn2Ti4O11 phase was obtained after 80 min of milling and sintering at 1200 degrees C for 2 h.

AB - The aim of this work was to analyse the kinetics and microstructure evolution of ZnO sintering process. ZnO powder was isothermally sintered (15, 30, 60, 90 and 120 min) in the temperature range from 8000C to 12000C. The values of Lenel parameter were calculated and used for the analysis of the densification and mass transport processes. Using scanning electron microscopy the analysis of the microstructure evolution and dependence of the average grain size with temperature and time of sintering was obtained. The results of this research could enable development of a new phenomenological equations in the analyses of ZnO-based materials sintering kinetics.

AB - The aim of this work was an investigation of structural and electrical properties of sintered barium-zinc-titanate ceramics. Mixtures of BaCO3, ZnO and TiO2 were mechanically activated in a planetary ball mill up to 80 minutes and sintered isothermally in air for 120 minutes at 1300°C. The phase composition in the BaCO3-ZnO-TiO2 system after milling and sintering was analyzed using the XRD method. The existence of pure barium-zinc-titanate has been registered. Microstructure analyses were performed using SEM. The results of electric resistivity, capacitance and loss tangent of the sintered samples were correlated with the XRD and SEM results.

AB - A single crystal Bi0.9Sb0.1 ingot was synthesized using the Bridgman technique. Thermal diffusivity and electronic transport properties of single crystal cleaved plates (00l) were determined from PA photoacoustic phase and amplitude spectra obtained using the photoacoustic method with a transmission detection configuration. Both the PA phase and amplitude were measured versus the modulation frequency and numerically analyzed. EDS analyses done to determine chemical composition of the studied samples as well as to check sample homogeneity. Hall effect measurements data were used for the photoacustic measurements.

AB - Mixtures of MgO-TiO2 were mechanically activated using high-energy planetary ball mill during 5, 10, 20, 40, 80 and 120 minutes. Sintering process was preformed in air at 1100o-1400oC for 2h. The decrease in powder’s particle size was noticed as the time of mechanical activation increased and confirmed by particle size analyzer. XRD analyses were performed in order to acquire the information about phase composition. Different ratio mixtures of MgTiO3 and Mg2TiO4 are present within all sintered samples. The effect of tribophysical activation on microstructure was investigated by scanning electron microscopy. The differential thermal gravimetric analysis has been performed in order to investigate thermal behaviour of the mixtures.

AB - In this article, ytterbium and erbium oxides are used as doping materials for barium titanate (BaTiO3) materials. The amphoteric behavior of these rare-earth ions leads to the increase of dielectric permittivity and decrease of dielectric losses. BaTiO3 ceramics doped with 0.01-0.5 wt% of Yb2O3 and Er2O3 were prepared by conventional solid-state procedure and sintered at 1320°C for 4 h. In BaTiO3 doped with a low content of rare-earth ions (0.01 wt%) the grain size ranged between 10 and 25 μm. With the higher dopant concentration of 0.5 wt%, the abnormal grain growth is inhibited and the grain size ranged between 2 and 10 μm. The measurements of capacitance and dielectric losses as a function of frequency and temperature have been carried out in order to correlate the microstructure and dielectric properties of doped BaTiO 3 ceramics. The temperature dependence of the dielectric constant as a function of dopant amount has been investigated. © 2009 The American Ceramic Society.

AB - Microstructure properties of barium-titanate based materials, expressed in grain boundary contacts, are of basic importance for electric properties of these material. In this study, the model of intergranular impedance applied on two-grain contact is considered. Globally, BaTiO3-ceramics sample is consisted of a huge number of mutually contacted grains which form clusters. Such clusters can be presented as a specific fractal formations. For each of them, it is possible to establish the equivalent electrical model and, for defined set of input parameters, using symbolic analysis, obtain the frequency diagram. The influence of fractal structure is especially stressed. Realizing the totality of relations between clusters grains groups, their microelectrical schemes and corresponding frequency characteristics, from one side, and global equivalent electrical scheme and corresponding acquired frequency characteristics of BaTiO3-ceramics samples, on the other side, we set a goal of coinciding experimental results with the summing effect of microelectric equivalent schemes. The model is successfully tested on doped barium- titanate ceramics.

The results of electric resistivity, capacitance and loss tangent of the sintered samples were correlated with the XRD and SEM
results.

AB - The aim of this paper was to analyse the sintering kinetics and microstructure evolution of ZnO. Powder was isothermally sintered (15, 30, 60, 90 and 120 minutes) in the temperature range from 800 to 1200oC. The values of Lenel parameter were used to analyze both densification and mass transport processes. Scanning electron microscopy was performed in order to determine the microstructure evolution and dependence of average grain size on temperature and time of sintering. These results will enable development of new phenomenological equations that can be applied in analyses of sintering kinetics.

AB - Single crystals of lead telluride doped with Nd were synthesized using the Bridgeman method. Room temperature far infrared reflectivity spectra were measured for PbTe samples with Nd content in the range 0.2-0.9 at.%. Optical reflectivity in the far infrared range was measured in the temperature range between 10 and 300 K for a highly polished PbTe sample with 0.6 at.% Nd. The experimental diagrams were numerically analyzed with a fitting procedure using a modified plasmon-phonon model. Two local modes were noted and their origin was discussed. Optical electron mobility was calculated for all analyzed samples.

AB - Far infrared reflection spectra measured at room temperature were used to investigate vibrational properties of PtSb2 single crystals. The experimental results were analyzed using a dielectric function taking into account the existence of plasmonionised impurity-phonon interactions. Together with strong coupling three infrared active lattice modes at about 143, 187 and 202 cm-1 were observed. These results were discussed with respect to calculated literature vibrational frequencies. Electrical properties of single crystal PtSb2 were also measured at room temperature.

The measurements were performed over a wide frequency range (100 Hz to 10 MHz) at different temperatures. The real and the imaginary part of the complex impedance traced semicircles in the complex plane. The resistance and the capacitance of bulk and grain-boundary regions were determined by modeling the experimental results using several equivalent circuits taking into account bulk deep trap states. AB - The aim of this work was to analyze the influence of mechanical activation on the MgCO3-TiO2 system. Mixtures of MgCO3-TiO2 were mechanically activated for 15, 30, 60 and 120 minutes in a planetary ball mill and after that sintered at 1100°C for 1h. XRD analyses were performed in order to give information about the phase composition and to determine a variety of microstructure parameters using Scherrer's method. Also, the effect of tribophysical activation and sintering process on microstructure was investigated by scanning electron microscopy. Electrical measurements were performed in order to determine electrical properties of sintered samples. Our conclusions are that the sample activated for 120 min showed the best electrical properties ( ε r=23.86, Q=233, ρ=0.38) and exhibited the best sinterability.

AB - The structural changes effect on functional properties of ribbon shaped samples of the Fe81B13Si4C2 amorphous alloy during annealing process was investigated in this paper. Differential scanning calorimetry method has shown that this alloy crystallizes in one stage, in temperature range from room temperature up to 700°C. Structural relaxation process was investigated by sensitive dilatation method in nonisothermal and isothermal conditions. It has been shown that structural relaxation process occurs in two stages by measuring thermal expansion at constant temperatures of t1=420°C, t2 = 440°C and t3 = 460°C. The first stage is characterized by linear logarithmic dependence of thermal expansion upon time at constant temperature. The second stage of structural relaxation process is characterized by linear dependence of isothermal expansion upon the square root of process time. These results imply that the first stage of structural relaxation process is a rapid kinetic process, while the second stage of structural relaxation process is a slow diffusion process. The rate constants k11 = 2,27⋅10- 3 s-1, k12 = 2,79⋅10-3 s-1, k13 = 3,6⋅10-3 s-1, k21 = 0,67⋅10-4 s-1, k22 = 3,72⋅10-4 s-1, k23 = 21,53⋅10-4 s-1 and activation energies E1 = 48,64 kJ/mol and E2 = 366, 23 kJ/mol were determined for both stages of structural relaxation process. The distinct correlation between structural relaxation process and magnetic susceptibility relative change was determined by thermomagnetic measurements. It has been shown that magnetic susceptibility can be increased by up to 80%, by convenient annealings after structural relaxation process, at magnetic field intensity of 8 kA/m.

It has been shown that magnetic susceptibility can be increased by up to 80%, by convenient annealings after structural relaxation process, at magnetic field intensity of 8 kA/m.",

AB - Starting mixtures of ZnO, TiO2 and MgO (0, 1.25 and 2.5 wt.% MgO) powders were mechanically activated for 15 min in a planetary ball mill. The powders obtained were sintered non-isothermally to temperatures between 800 and 1100 °C and then held at those temperatures for 120 min. Analysis of the influence of MgO addition on the synthesis of zinc-titanate ceramics showed that its addition increased slightly the temperature at which the reaction process started, accelerated the reaction and resulted in higher sample densities. These results were correlated with the results of structural characterization using X-ray powder diffraction method and SEM analysis. Also, the results of electric resistivity, capacitance and loss tangent of the sintered samples were obtained. © 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

AB - PbTe and Pb0.85Sn0.15Te single crystals, doped with Pd, were grown using the Bridgman method. Far infrared spectra were measured in the temperature range between 10 K and 300 K. The experimental spectra were numerically analyzed using first the Kramers-Krönig method and then a fitting procedure, based on the plasmon-phonon interaction model, and the optical parameters were calculated. Since the electronic structure of the ionized state for Pd, Ni and Pt is of the same type, and the influence of d-shells is very strong, special attention was paid to the influence of the electronic structure of dopants on the final properties PbTe and PbSnTe crystals. © 2008 Elsevier B.V. AB - Intrinsic resistivity and carrier transport parameters of sintered nickel manganite samples (NTC thermistor grade) were determined using a Hall effect measurement system based on the van der Pauw method. Powder mixtures composed of MnO, NiO and with small amounts of CoO and Fe 2O 3 were free surface energy activated by milling in an ultra fast planetary mill for 5, 15, 30, 45 and 60 min. The powders were uniaxially pressed with 196 MPa into discs and sintered at 1200 °C for 60 min. Full characterization of nickel manganite samples was done using SEM, EDS and XRD analysis. The Hall effect was measured at different temperatures (room temperature, 50, 80, 100 and 120 °C) with an applied field of 0.37 T and also 0.57 T at room temperature. The activation energy E a (energy of conduction) and the coefficient of temperature sensitivity B 25/80, were calculated from measured resistivity values. The measured mobility, resistivity/conductivity, U-I plots, and Hall coefficients were mutually compared and correlated versus microstructure development and macroscopic parameters such as the powder activation time and ambient temperature. © Springer Science+Business Media, LLC 2008.

AB - The aim of this work was an investigation of structural and electrical properties of sintered zinc-titanate ceramics obtained by mechanical activation. Mixtures of ZnO and TiO2 were mechanically activated in a planetary ball mill up to 90 min and sintered isothermally in air for 120 min at 1100 °C. The phase composition in the ZnO-TiO2 system after milling and sintering was analyzed using the XRD method. Microstructure analyses were performed using SEM. The results of electric resistivity, capacitance and loss tangent of the sintered samples were obtained. The existence of zinc-titanate as a dielectric was proved (εr = 12.5, Q = 386.1, tgδ = 0.0026, ρ = 1.02 Ωm). © 2007 Elsevier Ltd and Techna Group S.r.l.
