AB - This research is devoted to the determination of hidden dependencies between the flow of particles that come from the Sun and precipitation-induced floods in the United Kingdom (UK). The analysis covers 20 flood events during the period from October 2001 to December 2019. The parameters of solar activity were used as model input data, while precipitations data in the period 10 days before and during each flood event were used as model output. The time lag of 0–9 days was taken into account in the research. Correlation analysis was conducted to determine the degree of randomness for the time series of input and output parameters. For establishing a potential causative link, machine learning classification predictive modeling was applied. Two approaches, the decision tree, and the random forest were used. We analyzed the accuracy of classification models forecast from 0 to 9 days in advance. It was found that the most important factors for flood forecasting are proton density with a time lag of 9, differential proton flux in the range of 310–580 keV, and ion temperature. Research in this paper has shown that the decision tree model is more accurate and adequate in predicting the appearance of precipitation-induced floods up to 9 days ahead with an accuracy of 91%. The results of this study confirmed that by increasing technical capabilities, using improved machine learning techniques and large data sets, it is possible to improve the understanding of the physical link between the solar wind and tropospheric weather and help improve severe weather forecasting.

AB - The tourist industry is a very complex system. Its success depends on several different components, where a significant place has the local community. The attitude of residents towards tourism development and engagement greatly affects the sustainability of tourist destinations. Following the above, the paper aims to determine to which extent the local community supports tourism development in the Zlatibor tourist center (Republic of Serbia). An instrument called the “Tourism Quality of Life Scale” (TQOL) was used for this purpose The results showed that residents are aware of the importance of segments of quality of life. A moderate level of satisfaction in this tourism area is expressed. Also, the index value (TQOL score) confirmed the positive effect of tourism for most residents. The pioneer application of this model in the continental space of Europe is a qualitative contribution to further research.

AB - The pandemic, which changed the business system in all economic sectors, also had an impact on the tourism business. High technology began to be introduced, and the assumptions were that it would continue in the direction of replacing the human workforce in the tourism sector. The aim of the research was to determine to what extent tourists believe that it is necessary to continue with the introduction of high technology and the replacement of human labor after the pandemic. A survey was conducted on a sample of 863 respondents in the period of 2022 in Serbia. The analyzed results indicate that tourists believe that online technology can contribute to the development of the quality of service, the promotion of tourist attractions and the quality of the human workforce, but that the robotization of the service has negative implications for each of the three factors mentioned. The importance of research has theoretical and applied applications, primarily as a supplement to the existing literature, but also as an informative basis for strategic planning for future business in tourism and hotel industry.

AB - In this paper, a method previously developed for reconstructing daily
erythemal ultraviolet (UVery) doses in Novi Sad (Serbia) was improved and
used for estimating daily UVery over the period 1971–2018. The proposed
new method uses reanalysed total ozone column (TOC) data and snow
cover as an input and is based on the empirical relationship between relative sunshine duration and relative UVery doses. Introducing reanalysed
TOC data and snow cover data significantly improved the quality and accuracy of the reconstructed UVery time series, particularly in the winter season. The reconstructed time series revealed the statistically significant
increase in summer and winter UVery in the 1980s and the first half of the
1990s (+8.78% and + 13.14% per decade, respectively), which was linked to
the statistically significant decline in TOC (−4.13 and −7.36% per decade,
respectively). The study focuses on days with high erythemal UV dose
(highUVery), which is defined based on the 90th percentile of the daily UVery
for each month. Moreover, the influence of low TOC, low cloud cover
conditions, and high surface albedo on highUVery was analysed on a seasonal
basis. The results of this study show that highUVery days increased from
the 1980s, particularly strongly in the period of TOC depletion. A fraction
of highUVery days in the last two decades was large (12.29%), which is higher
than in the previous periods (6.97 and 8.68% in the period before and
during TOC depletion, respectively). The occurrence of highUVery days was
influenced mostly by low cloud cover (89.71% of days), and low TOC
(82.23% of days). In the winter season, high surface albedo influenced the
appearance of 19.18% of highUVery days. However, overall the interaction
of low cloud cover and low TOC in all seasons most often led to the
appearance of highUVery days.

AB - Local marketplaces and street vendors represent an important segment of trade in a community and one of the initiators of the rural and peri-urban development. Agricultural and other products available at marketplaces and street vendors very often originate from a wider urban surrounding or nearby villages, so both are also an important factor of the daily migrations, exchange of goods, services, and money on the relation suburb-downtown and village-town/city. This study
aims to analyze the social segments of the organization and operation of marketplaces, to provide an insight into the contemporary market processes and decision-making, and also to illustrate the future tendencies of the market outcomes of this aspect of the business. Using qualitative data processing, the results of one of the first empirical research on this topic in Serbia and this part of Europe will be analyzed. The results will show the economic, social, and cultural impact that marketplaces have on people’s everyday life and the economy of Serbia, along with defining future development guidelines. Besides, the findings of this research may be used by local authorities, the economy, and communities for future strategic development planning of this market segment. The outcomes may have an impact on future research of other aspects of marketplaces depending on the difference of regions, on one side, and also alternative opportunities for local development in less-advantaged communities, on the other side. Moreover, this contributes to the identification of the differences in the marketplace business management and sheds light on future initiatives for the encouragement of this local/global process.

AB - A crisis caused by COVID-19 pandemic affected the whole world leaving long-lasting effects on almost every aspect of human lives. The aim of this study was to test how different effects of COVID-19, expressed through job insecurity, employees' health complaints occurred during isolation, risk-taking behavior at workplace and changes in the organization, may impact work-related attitudes (job motivation and job satisfaction) and turnover intentions of the employees in hospitality industry. Based on the data collected from 624 hospitality workers from Serbia, the results indicated that job insecurity and changes in the organization were predictors of all outcomes, in a negative direction, while risk-taking behavior acted as a predictor of job satisfaction only, also in a negative direction. The significance of demographic characteristics, as control variables, showed that age and marital status had significant impact on job motivation and turnover intentions. The theoretical and practical implications were discussed.

AB - The impact of solar activity on environmental processes is difficult to understand and complex for empirical modeling. This study aimed to establish forecast models of the meteorological conditions in the forest fire areas based on the solar activity parameters applying the neural networks approach. During July and August 2018, severe forest fires simultaneously occurred in the State of California (USA), Portugal, and Greece. Air temperature and humidity data together with solar parameters (integral flux of solar protons, differential electron flux and proton flux, solar wind plasma parameters, and solar radio flux at 10.7 cm data) were used in long short-term memory (LSTM) recurrent neural network ensembles. It is found that solar activity mostly affects the humidity for two stations in California and Portugal (an increase in the integral flux of solar protons of > 30 MeV by 10% increases the humidity by 3.25%, 1.65%, and 1.57%, respectively). Furthermore, an increase in air temperature of 10% increases the humidity by 2.55%, 2.01%, and 0.26%, respectively. It is shown that temperature is less sensitive to changes in solar parameters but depends on previous conditions (previous increase of 10% increases the current temperature by 0.75%, 0.34%, and 0.33%, respectively). Humidity in Greece is mostly impacted by solar flux F10.7 cm and previous values of humidity. An increase in these factors by 10% will lead to a decrease in the humidity of 3.89% or an increase of 1.31%, while air temperature mostly depends on ion temperature. If this factor increases by 10%, it will lead to air temperature rising by 0.42%

AB - Forest fires that occurred in Portugal on June 18, 2017, caused several tens of
human casualties. The cause of their emergence, as well as many others that occurred in western Europe at the same time remained unknown. Taking into account consequences, including loss of human lives and endangerment of ecosystem sustainability, discovering of the forest fires causes is the very significant question. The heliocentric hypothesis has indirectly been tested, according to which charged particles are a possible cause of forest fires. We must point out that it was not possible to verify whether in this specific case the particles by reaching the ground and burning the plant mass create the initial phase of the formation of the flame. Therefore, we have tried to determine whether during the critical period, i. e. from June 15-19 there is a certain statistical connection between certain parameters of the solar wind and meteorological elements. Based on the hourly values of the charged particles flow, a correlation analysis was performed with hourly values of individual meteorological elements including time lag at Monte Real station. The application of the Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy Inference System models has shown that there is a high degree of connection between the flow of protons and the analyzed meteorological elements in Portugal. However, further verification of this hypothesis requires further laboratory testing.

AB - This research is devoted to the determination of the causal relationship between the flow of particles that are coming from the Sun and the hurricanes Irma, Jose, and Katia. To accomplish this, the lag correlation analysis was performed. High correlation coefficients confirmed a preliminary conclusion about the relationship between solar activities and the hurricane phenomenon, which allows further research. Five parameters i.e. characteristics of solar activity (10.7 cm solar radio flux (F10.7), the flows of protons and electrons with maximum energy, speed and density of solar wind particles) were chosen as model input, while the wind speed and air pressure of Irma, Jose, and Katia hurricanes were used as model output. Input data were sampled to a six hours interval in order to adapt the time interval to the observed data about hurricanes, in the period between September 28 and December 21, 2017. As a result of the preliminary analysis, using 12,274,264 linear models by parallel calculations, six of them were chosen as best. The identified lags were the basis for refinement of models with the artificial neural networks. Multilayer perceptrons with back propagation and recurrent LSTM have been chosen as commonly used artificial neural networks. Comparison of the accuracy of both linear and artificial neural networks results confirmed the adequacy of these models and made it possible to take into account the dynamics of the solar wind. Sensitivity analysis has shown that F10.7 has the greatest impact on the wind speed of the hurricanes. Despite low sensitivity of pressure to change the parameters of the solar wind, their strong fluctuations can cause a sharp decrease in pressure, and therefore the appearance of hurricanes.

AB - The research analyzes attitudes and habits of the visitors in the National Park (NP) Taganay on South Urals in Russia. The survey method was applied on a sample of 305 respondents in order to investigate visitors’ travel habits, as well as their perceptions regarding different experiences they were exposed to. The results identified a strong positive perception regarding overall experiences from visiting the NP. Specific permanent patterns of behavior were observed and compatibility between visitors’ habits and the environment was determined. The most significant variables affecting perceptions are the frequency of visits and the age. The study has identified certain concerns regarding environmental issues. Respondents were found sensitive to garbage production in public areas and the presence of noise in protected territory. The results of the study provide inputs for solving the long-standing conflict between nature conservation and mass tourism in Russian protected areas.

AB - The purpose of this study is to investigate the potential for restructuring industrial areas toward tourism development within local communities, with a special emphasis on the socio-cultural determinants of residents, as well as their attitudes regarding the sustainable development of tourism. The research is also oriented toward the interests of local communities with respect to entrepreneurial activities in the field of tourism within regions relying on traditional industries, in this case, one of the largest open-pit mining surfaces in Europe (near the Serbian town of Lazarevac). The survey was conducted on a sample of 273 respondents. The research results point to the residents’ attitudes regarding the acceptability of tourism development options, as well as their attitudes toward tourism development, with the aim of providing the conditions for a successful transition from a typical heavy industrial setting toward sustainable tourism development.

AB - This study investigates the relationship between the quality of hospitality services and sustainable equestrian tourism development in Slovenia. The focus will be on the relations between equestrian tourism motivations, hospitality services quality, overall service quality, equestrian tourists’ satisfaction, and behavioral intentions. The target population was equestrian tourists who stayed in one of 30 tourism farms in Slovenia and used both accommodation and food and beverage services. Face-to-face surveys with convenience sampling were used for the data collection. The results show that equestrian tourism motivations are positively associated with both hospitality services quality and the overall service quality in equestrian tourism. Moreover, the overall service quality in equestrian tourism is positively related to equestrian tourists’ satisfaction, while equestrian tourists’ satisfaction is positively related to behavioral intentions. In addition, accommodation service quality and food and beverage service quality both mediate the association between equestrian tourism motivation and overall satisfaction. The study provides both theoretical and practical implications. For one thing, it fills the research gaps present in the literature. In addition, it gives practical guidelines to farmers and tourism practitioners regarding equestrian tourism development as one of the popular areas of sustainable tourism development in rural settings.

AB - The research involved a comparison of two case studies dealing with the perceptions of the local population to tourism. The effects and the control of tourism development were analyzed, as well as the availability of information on sustainable tourism and impact on the community in two national parks (NPs) in Serbia. The survey method was applied on a sample of 227 (NP Đerdap) and 210 (NP Tara) respondents. The survey results identified the strong positive perception of the presence of tourists among the two categories of respondents and also certain differences regarding economic benefits of tourism. Research also recognized a poor impact of tourism on the local community in terms of their knowledge and personal involvement. Education and employment in tourism industry were found to be strong factors affecting the residents’ perceptions. Some independent variables significantly predicted the level of local population’s support for tourism in both national parks (tourism impact on job creation, tourism impact on fostering a local culture, etc.). This comparative analysis provides inputs for directing future tourism programmes and devising a development policies adjusted to the needs of the local community.

AB - In this article, we proposed a simple neural network (NN) technique for estimating
erythemal ultraviolet (UV) radiation in Novi Sad (Serbia) using available input
parameters. The technique implies the use of one of two models depending on the
availability of the input parameter: (a) NN model 1 (NNM1) which uses global
solar radiation, clearness index, cloudiness and air mass; and (b) NN model
2 (NNM2) which adds total ozone content (TOC) to the NNM1 inputs. The three
feed-forward NNs with different internal structures and back propagation learning
method for each NN model were used in modelling. The parallel calculation was
used for learning each NN. The results showed that the NNM1 provides satisfactory estimate (R = 0.975, MBE = −0.614%, MAPE = 12.580%, RMSE =
17.716%) and that additional use of TOC NNM2 considerably improves the
results (R = 0.982, MBE = −0.726%, MAPE = 10.161%, RMSE = 14.509%).
The performances of developed NNMs become significantly better if warm part of
the year is isolated (MAPE = 10.981 and 8.958; RMSE = 13.889 and 11.709, for
NNM1 and NNM2, respectively). Variations of reconstructed annual averages of
daily doses in the period 1949–2012 indicate ability of the technique to model the
relationship between erythemal UV radiation and the affecting atmospheric factors. The analysis showed that the increasing trend during the warm part of the
year in the period 1981–1996 was mainly caused by TOC, while the increase after
1996 was to a greater extent caused by cloudiness.

abstract = "In this article, we proposed a simple neural network (NN) technique for estimating
erythemal ultraviolet (UV) radiation in Novi Sad (Serbia) using available input
The analysis showed that the increasing trend during the warm part of the
year in the period 1981–1996 was mainly caused by TOC, while the increase after
1996 was to a greater extent caused by cloudiness.",

AB - Regardless of their type and structure, natural resources represent the basis for industrial and economic development of every country. The aim of this study is to determine and display the natural potential in the territory of the City of Subotica (Vojvodina Province in Northern Serbia), on the basis of four protected natural areas. These areas are: Palić Nature Park, Ludaško jezero Special Nature Reserve, Selevenjske pustare Special Nature Reserve and Subotička peščara Protected Landscape of Exceptional Distinction. All listed areas represent the main aspects for ecotourism development in this part of the country, so one of the aims of the research is to identify key stakeholders that should be involved in proper developing of this form of tourism. When preforming this study, survey research techniques were used. Respondents were Subotica’s residents, who were asked to rate the state of the environment in these surroundings, as well as to give their opinions about the possibilities for the development of ecotourism. Based on the analysis of the dependent and independent variables, it was concluded that the residents are generally satisfied with the conditions of the environment, they also consider that the development of this form of tourism would raise the awareness of locals about the importance of preserving these protected areas. The result may be significant when launching a new tourism product, while preserving the protected areas and adapting for future visitors’ needs.

AB - This study aims to explore the use of the social-ecological system (SES) in tourism of a mountain area. Authors examined residents’ perceptions of tourism impacts on four SES aspects: ecosystems, local knowledge, people and technology and property rights institutions. The aim is to find area that will be a “common ground” for community and area that can be a source of conflict and will require additional work to solve the differences. Second objective was to examine residents’ perception towards future local development tourism policies (winter tourism, seasonality and environment and culture) and how those policies can affect natural, socio-economic and cultural aspects of mountain area. Residents’ perceptions of sustainable tourism development potential, perceivedtourismimpacts, analysisofcommunityattachmentandemploymentsectorofstakeholder were involved in this study. The authors applied the Q-methodology, as one SES-allied approach, in a small mountain community of Kopaonik, the Republic of Serbia. The results revealed that residents’ agreement/disagreement is connected with two aspects: ecosystem and property rights andthatecosystemcanbesignificantlyinfluencedbyallthreedevelopmentpolicies. Findingssuggest that development of future natural conservation plans and new cultural attractions can have positive effects on all parts of social-ecological system. Some practical implications of those findings for tourism planning and development are also discussed.

AB - The research deals with the sustainable development of the Serbian and Slovenian
countryside, under the influence of tourism progress. The article identifies the main rural tourism
competitiveness in Serbia and Slovenia, as one of the essential factors of rural development in both
countries, analyzing the main contributions and making a series of proposals to guide the future
research agenda. The aim of the paper is to clarify around one obviously defined objective—to point
out the competitiveness of sustainable rural tourism in typical post-socialist settings. The data for
this study were collected using the Integrated Model of Destination Competitiveness to observe
Serbian and Slovenian competitiveness in tourism. Determinants were assessed using a survey
evaluating four demanding factors and 20 supporting factors, based upon a five-point Likert Scale.
The results indicated that the friendliness of residents towards visitors, easy communication
between them, together with quality of infrastructure and health facilities show the highest level
of statistical correlation. These are the main propositions to start an initiative for the authorities in
local communities to actively participate in sustainable rural development. The findings provide
tourism stakeholders with relevant respondents’ perceptions pertaining to the tourism development
in non-urban areas.

AB - This research presents improved results on modelling relationship between the flow of charged particles that are coming from the Sun and hurricanes. For establishing eventual link, the methods of Big Data, such as Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS), Parallel Calculations, Fractal analysis etc., are applied. The parameters of solar activity were used as model input data, while data on hurricane phenomenon were used as model output, and both of these on daily level for May–October in period 1999–2013. The nonlinear R/S analysis was conducted to determine the degree of randomness for time series of input and output parameters. The time lag of 0–10 days was taken into account in the research. It led to growing input parameters up to 99. The problem of finding hidden dependencies in large databases refers to the problems of Data Mining. The ANFIS with Sugeno function of zero order was selected as a method of output fuzzy system. The “brute-force attack” method was used to find the most significant factors from all data. To do this, more than 3 million ANFIS models were tested on Computer Cluster using Parallel Calculation. Within the experiments, eight input factors were calculated as a base for building the final ANFIS models. These models can predict up to 39% of the hurricanes. This means, if causal link exists, approximately every third penetration of charged particles from coronary hole(s) or/and from the energetic region(s) toward the Earth precede the hurricanes.

AB - Located on the coast of the Adriatic Sea, Montenegro has been an important receptive market for decades. In accordance with strategic documents, tourism has been identified as а leading economic activity in Montenegro. Although it has а diversified tourist offer, the emphasis has been put on coastal tourism. Adapting to changes in the market, the offer has been transformed from mass, social vacations towards individual products intended to premium customers. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to evaluate the effects of the current tourism policy defined Ьу Montenegro tourism development strategy to 2020. The analysis includes the key indicatшs of the tourism industry. The results have shown that seasonality is the major obstacle for the balanced tourism development. Hence, all eff orts should Ье directed towards creating products that exceed classic "sun, sand, and sea" tourism model.

AB - Nowadays, tourism is one of the leading activities both at the global and the local level. However,
the continuous mass tourism development, especially in the second half of the 20th century, apart from positive economic effects, has caused numerous problems. They relate primarily to environmental, but also socio-cultural challenges that are incompatible with the concept of sustainable development presented at the Rio conference in the early 1990s. Therefore, the empirical research encompassed the area of Zlatibor tourist center located in Central Serbia. Due to the emphasized natural and cultural values, it is one of the most visited resorts after Belgrade and Vrnjačka Banja. The aim of this paper is to point out the tourism sustainability in this area and the possibilities for its improvement. In that context, we applied European Union five group comparative indicators. For this purpose, the data from statistical yearbooks as well as the existing spatial-planning documents were used. Additionally, the data of Regional development agency regarding visitor satisfaction were also evaluated. The research results showed that
the tourism situation in this area designated as critical (red zone) in respect of certain socio-cultural and environmental indicators. On the other hand, significantly better results were achieved in terms of economic indicators and tourist satisfaction. Finally, these indicators can serve stakeholders in order to ensure destination sustainability and its competitiveness in the future.

AB - This study discusses tourism as a means of regional development by focusing on specific cultural indicators. In this paper, we are dealing with the case of the Djerdap National Park – the largest national park in Serbia and one of the most popular of the country's destinations. This area has an extraordinary diversity of geomorphological forms, it is rich in cultural and historical monuments. At the same time, this area is sparsely populated and is demonstrating an insufficient economic growth. For our analysis, we apply comparative indicators to measure sustainable regional tourism development that were proposed by the European Union’s experts. This set of indicators consists of five groups and includes the ratio of accommodation capacities to the number of local inhabitants and the intensity of tourism. Our calculations are based on the statistical data on accommodation capacities and the tourist traffic provided in several municipalities. These data are provided by the Statistical Office of Serbia (2015). We also use the 2011 census data on the number of local inhabitants. We have found that the ratio of accommodation capacities to the number of local inhabitants in Djerdap is in the so-called ‘green’ zone, which shows the sustainability of tourism in this region and an insignificant impact that tourism has on the cultural identity of the local community. The intensity of tourism in Djerdap is in the ‘red’ zone, however, which demonstrates an alarming trend and requires further analysis, especially regarding the carrying capacity of the area. Thus, the conclusion is made that the development of tourism in Djerdap should be balanced with the protection of natural resources.
