This essay consists of three parts. The first part offers a diagnosis of the present
crisis of Serbian society, which has accumulated the effects of structural, systematic, and transitional
crisis factors. The crisis has been deepened by external and internal conflicts to the point of anomie –
which is “more than a crisis.” Like no other country undergoing post-socialist transition, Serbia has been
compelled to survive international sanctions, NATO aggression and bombardment, media satanization,
ethnic persecution of Serbs and the resulting influx of a multitude of refugees, hyperinflation, devastation
of the economy and social institutions, and the occupation and attempted amputation of a key part of its
territory – Kosovo and Metohija.
In the second and third part of the essay, the author suggests a possible therapy, proposing a
crisis exit strategy that draws on Serbia’s own inner resources and tradition, and listing the necessary
conditions and important elements of institutional, comprehensive institutional reforms in Serbia,
such as: spiritual renewal of the social community, development of new work and business ethics,
strengthening of local self-government, participation of employees in corporate management, revival
of the tradition of Serbian cooperatives, with an emphasis on the significance of a new agrarian reform.",
