AB  - This paper is a repeated review of the establishment of the terminological system within the Society of Serbian letters with the aim of viewing this establishment from different aspects on the basis of published and manuscript documentation. The idea of the Society that the work on the terminology should be institutionalized is completely right because there is achieved criticality in the selection of terms, the width of its use and authority in recommending it to the public. However, there exist a few dead ends to which, as it seems, the Society came in its work. If the work on terminology is considered as a whole, it is possible to notice several key reasons for its short life and failure: enlightenment utilitarian, and not scientific aims; discursivity in the work of Society members; attitudes different from Vukovians’ in terms of the vision about the structure of the lexicon of the future language standard.

да се конституише
као научна
дисциплина,
схваћена
у духу
тадашње
западноевропске
традиције.
Посебна
пажња
посвећена
је стању
у старословенском
језику,
те је додатно
поређење
реализовано
на основу
грађе
забележене
у старословенском
речнику
(Старославянский
словарь
(по рукописям
X–XI веков)).
AB  - This paper compares terminology in the field of astronomy recorded in (1)
Serbian medieval manuscripts – according to the corpus recorded in Astronomija u
starim srpskim rukopisima written by N. Jankovic (1989) – with the terminological
system registered in (2) textbooks and reference books from the 18th and 19th century,
published in Serbia in the period 1783–1867. The comparison is made for the
purpose of noticing similarities and differences, i. e. the degree of continuity in the
terminological system of astronomy from the first translations into Serbian dedicated
to this area of knowledge (13th century) until the time when astronomy in Serbia was
getting constituted as a scientific field perceived in the spirit of the Western European
tradition of that time. Special attention is paid to the state in Old Church Slavonic
so that the additional comparison was made on the basis of the corpus recorded
in the work Старославянский словарь (по рукописям X–XI веков) from 1994.
