AB  - The Orthodox renewal movements represent an important part of the history of the Orthodox churches in Eastern and Southeastern Europe during the 20th century. Renewal movements also had an impact on the Romanian Orthodox Church in the Yugoslav Banat, with the first communities of the Lord’s Army movement founded in the second half of the twentieth century. The first local organizations were established in Uzdin, Straja, Sân Mihai and Doloave, and during the ’30 in almost all the Romanian Orthodox parishes in inter-war Yugoslavia. The renewal movements contributed to the significant changes of the orthodoxy, both Romanian and Serbian Orthodox Church. Collaboration between Romanian – Lord’s Army and Serbian God’s Worshippers movement existed which was an important factor for the interconfessional relations in the Banat during the interwar period.

lucrării redactate de către Aleksandra Đurić-Milovanović și
Mircea Măran, Biserica Ortodoxă Română din Banatul Iugoslav
în perioada interbelică (1918-1941) este unul evident, se
acoperă în mod profesionist de către cei doi autori, care sunt
binecunoscuți în istoriografiile nu doar din România și Serbia,
ci și în alte spații culturale europene prin contribuțiile lor
anterioare, unele apărute la edituri de prestigiu din Europa, un
segment important din istoria românilor din Banatul sârbesc.
AB  - Kao pravoslavni vernici, Rumuni u Banatu su se tokom
XVIII veka i u prvih šest decenija XIX veka nalazili pod
crkvenom jurisdikcijom Karlovačke mitropolije. Prvi odlučniji
pokušaji izdvajanja Rumuna iz sastava srpske pravoslavne
crkvene organizacije zabeleženi su u prvoj polovini XIX veka,
a dobili su zreliju formu u revolucionarnim događajima 1848-
49. U parohijama u kojima je živelo rumunsko stanovništvo
liturgija se odvijala na maternjem jeziku vernika, dok se u
mešovitim naseljima, u zavisnosti od brojčanog odnosa između
rumunskog i srpskog stanovništva, ali i od konkretne situacije
u svakom mestu, alternativno koristio srpski i rumunski jezik
kako u liturgijama, tako i u administrativnim poslovima

AB  - Cilj ovog rada je prikazivanje nekih manje poznatih detalja iz
života velikog banatskog slikara Nikolaja Popeskua (Nicolae Popescu, 1835-
1877), na osnovu do sada neobjavljene arhivske građe i savremenih
novinskih članaka koji do sada nisu korišćeni u monografijama i studijama
koje su posvećene ovom umetniku. U neku ruku tragična ličnost istorije
banatske umetnosti XIX veka, iako akademski slikar, Popesku se ceo svoj
život borio sa problemima koji su bili posledica društvenih suprotnosti
prisutnih u austrougarskom društvu druge polovine XIX veka, a pre svega
odnosa tog društva prema umetnosti, cenjene i prihvaćene, ali ipak ne u
dovoljnoj meri da bi obezbedila siguran i lagodan život svima koji je
praktikuju. Glavnu pažnju smo usmerili na boravak i umetnički rad ovog
slikara na prostorima današnje Vojvodine (srpski Banat), pre svega na
njegov boravak u Vršcu i na oslikavanje rumunske pravoslavne crkve u
Seleušu, koje predstavlja jedno od remek-dela crkvenog slikarstva na našim
prostorima u XIX veku.

AB  - Over the last few years the study on religion of various ethnic groups in Banat has increasingly attracted the attention of ethnologists and anthropologists, as well as other related disciplines. Our research has included Romanians in Banat that belong to the Romanian Orthodox Church, Greek Catholic (Uniate) Church and neo-Protestant communities. In this paper we present the results of ethnographic field and archival research on religiosity of the Romanians in Banat, indicating a dynamic and diverse religious life within this ethnic group. Research in local parish archives brought a series of data from church history, primarily unpublished documents on the Romanian parishes within the diocese of Vršac before ecclesiastical division (1864) and during the church division, documents on the establishment of the Romanian Orthodox Metropolitanate (1865) and the Romanian diocese based in Caransebes and Arad. This research has included the topic of the Romanian Orthodox pilgrimages in Banat, between the two world wars and during the period of socialist Yugoslavia. In this paper we will analyze the phenomenon of Orthodox Christian renewal movement – the Lord’s Army (Rom. Oastea Domnului), which has been developed within the Romanian Orthodox Church in Banat at the time the largest expansion of neo-Protestant communities. Presenting the above-mentioned forms of religiosity of the Romanians, with short overview on their history and present state, we will emphasize the role of religion and the research of so called „alternative religious traditions “, as an important part of the intangible cultural heritage of this region.

AB  - This paper presents some aspects regarding the liturgical language used by religious 
Romanian communities from the Serbian Banat, including the Romanian Orthodox Church, the 
Unitarian Church and the neo-Protestant communities that have existed within this ethnic group. 
Following the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, the Romanian Orthodox parishes found 
within the Yugoslav state remained under the ROC, the Romanian language remaining until today 
the language of both the liturgy and the church administration. The same situation is present in the 
Romanian Church United with Rome (the Greek Catholic Church), the Romanian language also 
being used by neo-Protestant churches. As for matters concerning the neo-Protestants (the 
Nazarenes, Baptists, Pentecostals and Adventists), in places with mixed Romanian-Serbian 
population, the religious services are conducted as needed in both languages - Romanian and 
Serbian, that is in the mother tongue of the faithful.
