AB - Cellulose is a biopolymer with a wide range of properties like biocompatibility, hydrophilicity, porosity, good mechanical properties, biodegradability and non-toxicity. The properties and application of cellulose based materials are related to the source of the cellulose production. Despite the fact that the plant cellulose is playing a leading role in obtaining cellulose fibers, it has been found that ecologically and economically, a better source for obtaining cellulose is by fermenting a particular strain of bacteria. Although bacterial nano cellulose (BCN) based materials can be used in numerous industries, from the paper and food industries to biomedicine, their application in electronics is limited because bacterial cellulose does not have conductive and ferromagnetic properties. Having this in mind in this research, the results of the development of nanocomposite materials based on BCN modified with Fe3O4 has been presented. The differences in the interaction of Fe3O4 nanoparticles and BCN obtained by varying precipitation parameters were investigated and the effect of reaction time was followed by SEM-EDS, XRD, and FTIR analysis. It has been found that this type of modifications of the initial BCN, enables development of new composite materials with superior properties, which can be used in various fields of electronics.

AB - The mechanical activation of the starting mixtures of cordierite (2MgO*2Al2O3*5SiO2) with 5.00 mass % TiO2 was performed in a high energy ball mill during 10-80 min. The applied compaction pressure before the sintering process was 2t/cm2. The sintering process was performed at 1350°C for 2h and 4h in air atmosphere. Scanning electron microscopy was performed to analyze the microstructure of both compacted and sintered samples. Atomic force microscope was used to investigate the surface of the sintered samples. This paper investigates the influence of prolonged sintering time on the densities of the sintered samples, along with electrical properties.

AB - Mechanochemical activation of 2MgO•2Al2O3•5SiO2, starting components of cordierite, was used in aim to decrease the sintering temperature. Cordierite is very attractive ceramic material due to its properties, excellent thermal shock resistance, low dielectric constants (~5) and low thermal expansions (20•10-7 ºC-1). Specific surface area of the activated components was detected by the BET method. TG and DTA methods have followed behaviors of the three-component system. To see the influence of relaxation time on the activated components, FT IR has analyzed the starting components as well as activated mixture after 24h and 24 months. TG analyses of starting cordierite mixture activated 5 to 240 minutes showed a mass decrease from 8 to12%. DT analyses showed the influence of mechanochemical activation of the starting components as increasing energy of the starting cordierite mixture, which resulted in moving the endothermic and exothermic effects to lower temperatures. The increasing of the temperatures of these effects was about 100°C, depending on activation time. IR analyses showed that relaxation time, that is laying-off time to the moment of sintering, do not influence changes of activated mixtures. Since the given results, it can be concluded that the activated sample has no changes to the moment of using for a certain purpose (sintering) for any time since activation.

The effects of sintering, composition, and morphology were followed by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and EDS analysis. It has been found that, in addition to the liquid phase, Bi2O3 produces intermediate metastable compounds with MgO and Al2O3. The sintering of MAS ceramics with 10% Bi2O3 at 1000 °C, 1100 °C and 1200 °C was also performed. Binary systems MgO / Bi2O3 at 820 ºC and 1100 ºC, Al2O3 / Bi2O3 and SiO2 / Bi2O3 were sintered at 1100 ºC, as well as MgO, Al2O3, SiO2 / Bi2O3 at 1000 ºC, 1100 ºC and 1200 ºC to examine the reaction of the cordierite synthesis. The results show the formation of a liquid phase at 820 °C (melting temperature Bi2O3), as well as the formation of metastable compounds forming MgO and Al2O3 with Bi2O3 at 1100 °C and which diffuse through the liquid phase, thus enabling the mechanism of reaction in the multi-component system to be accelerated from two aspects. By the sintering of a three-component MAS system in the presence of Bi2O3, the existence of cordierite was established. The lowest temperature at which the tracer cordierite was observed (in hexagonal form - indialite) is 1100 °C, while in the sintered system at 1200 ºC the most frequent phase is indialite. This study found that the presence of Bi2O3 in basic cordierite mixture allows the sintering temperature to decrease by ~ 170 ºC relative to the temperature of the formation of cordierite ceramics from the mixture without the presence of functional additives.

AB - Thermally activated processes in cordierite-based ceramics were investigated to determine the effect of the mechanical activation and the addition of TeO2 on kinetic and thermodynamic parameters of these processes. Using a combination of dilatometry and DTA measurements in the 100–1400 °C temperature range, it was established that both the mechanical activation and the addition of TeO2 have a significant effect on processes in cordierite-based ceramics. A combination of 5 mass% addition of TeO2 and mechanical activation for 40 min reduced the sintering temperature of cordierite ceramics to around 1100 °C. In addition, the analysis of DTA measurements of mechanically activated samples indicates that the mechanical activation leads to intensification of the cordierite formation through an increase in concentration of surface defects and an increase in grain contact surface in the initial powder.

AB - Due to pozzolanic characteristics, fly ash is commonly used as a cement replacement in construction composites. Addition of natural clays with sorption ability (i.e. zeolite and bentonite) in to the fly ash based construction materials is of both scientific and industrial interest. Namely, due to the application of sorptive clay minerals, it is possible to immobilize toxic heavy metals from the composite structure. The thermal compatibility of fly ash and zeolite, as well as fly ash and bentonite, within the composite was observed during sintering procedure. The starting components were used in 1:1 ratio and they were applied without additional mechanical treatment. The used compaction pressure for the tablets was 2 t•cm-2. The sintering process was conducted at 1000ºC and 1200ºC for two hours in the air atmosphere. The mineralogical phase composition of the non-treated and sintered samples was analyzed using X-ray diffraction method. Scanning electron microscopy was applied in the analysis of the microstructure of starting and sintered samples. The thermal behavior was observed via DTA method. The influence of temperature on the properties of fly ash-zeolite and fly ash-bentonite composites was investigated

AB - In this study, sintering of two systems was investigated in parallel, pure cordierite 2MgO:2Al2O3:5SiO2, and cordierite with addition of 5 mass % TeO2. Green bodies were prepared from powder mixtures mechanically activated for 0, 10 and 40minutes by uniaxial pressing at 20 MPa followed by cold isostatic pressing (CIP) at 1000 MPa. The pressure-less sintering of these specimens was performed at a temperature of 1350 oC for 1 h, with 10 oC/min heating rate. Densities over 96 % of theoretical values were obtained for samples activated for 40 minutes. XRD measurements of MAS-40 sintered sample pointed at a mixture that consisted of several phases, majority of cordierite (> 73 %), spinel MgAl2O4 (> 22 %), ZrSiO4 (2.5 %), and Al2O3 (1.8%), while XRD pattern of MAS-40-TeO2 contained majority of cordierite (> 72 %), spinel MgAl2O4 (> 23 %), ZrSiO4 (1.9 %), and Al2O3 (1.9 %). The relative permittivities of the samples were measured in an open test fixture. The results for the real part of the complex relative permittivity of the samples, measured at 200 MHz, are shown in Table I. The loss tangent for all samples was very small, below the resolution of the measurement setup (0.005).
There is a strong correlation between the relative permittivity and the density, which agrees with our previous results.

AB - Cordierite 2MgO+2Al2O3+5SiO2 is frequently used ceramic material, that is commonly used as a carrier of electrical components due to its low dielectric constant (~ 5), and low temperature thermal expansion coefficient (20·10-7 oC-1). In order to accelerate the process of sintering, 5.00 mass% TeO2 was added to the starting mixtures. System was tested in two parallel mixtures, one with no additives, and the other one with TeO2. The mechanical activation of the both mixtures was performed in a highenergy ball mill in time intervals from 0 to 40 min with ball to powder mass ratio 1:40. The particle size analysis (PSA) was employed in order to determine the changes in the particle size of the mechanically treated powders. The phase composition of the starting powders as well as microstructures was analyzed by the means of X-ray diffraction method and SEM.

AB - Cordierite-based ceramic materials are attracting much interest for their various applications in industry, for manufacturing multilayer circuit boards, catalytic converters, filters, thermal insulation, kiln furniture, components of portable electronic devices, etc. In order to reduce production costs and modify cordierite-based materials, mechanical activation can be used. In this study, microstructural and electrical properties of mechanically activated MgO-Al2O3-SiO2 system have been analyzed. The mixtures of MgO-Al2O3-SiO2 powders were mechanically activated in a planetary ball mill for the time periods from 0 to 160 min. Morphological investigations have been performed on the obtained powders. The effects of activation and two-step sintering process on microstructure were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Electrical measurements showed variations of the dielectric constant (εr) and loss tangent (tan δ) as a function of time of mechanical treatment.

AB - Since cordierite, 2MgO·2Al2O3·5SiO2 (MAS), is a very useful high-temperature ceramic material, it is important to decrease its sintering temperature. In order to accelerate the process of sintering, 5.00 mass% MoO3 was added to the starting mixtures. The mechanical activation of the starting mixtures was performed in a high-energy ball mill in time intervals from 0 to 160 min. After the activation, starting mixtures were sintered at 1300 °C for 2 h. In order to determine the impact of mechanical activation on particle size distribution and powders morphology, the mechanically treated powders were characterized by a laser light-scattering particle size analyzer and scanning electron microscopy. The phase composition of the starting mixtures and sintered samples was analyzed by the X-ray diffraction method. In order to determine temperature intervals of chemical reactions and phase transitions, differential thermal analyses (DTA) and thermo-gravimetric analysis were used. Kissinger’s equation was employed to calculate apparent activation energies of various processes that occur within the system during heating. Based on the obtained DTA results, it was established that mechanical activation along with MoO3 additive has influence on sintering temperature which was decreased for more than 100 °C, comparing to the literature data.

Kissinger’s equation was employed to calculate apparent activation energies of various processes that occur within the system during heating. Based on the obtained DTA results, it was established that mechanical activation along with MoO3 additive has influence on sintering temperature which was decreased for more than 100 °C, comparing to the literature data.",

AB - Cordierite 2MgO+2Al2O3+5SiO2 is frequently used ceramic material, that is commonly used as a carrier of electrical components due to its low dielectric constant (~ 5), and low temperature thermal expansion coefficient (20•10-7 ºC-1). In order to accelerate the process of sintering, 5.00 mass% TeO2 was added to the starting mixtures. System was tested in two parallel mixtures, one with no added additives, and the other one with TeO2. The mechanical activation of the both mixtures was performed in a high-energy ball mill in time intervals from 0 to 40 min with ball to powder mass ratio 1:40. The particle size analysis (PSA) was employed in order to determine the changes in the particle size of the mechanically treated powders. The phase composition of the starting powders as well as microstructures was analyzed by the means of X-ray diffraction method and SEM.

AB - The mechanical activation can help reduce production costs and modify cordierite-based materials. In this study, the structure and electrical properties of the mechanically activated MgO-Al2O3-SiO2 system have been analyzed. The mixtures of MgO-Al2O3-SiO2 powders were mechanically activated in a planetary ball mill for time periods ranging from 0 to 160 min. Structural investigations were performed on the obtained powders. The effects of activation and a two-step sintering process on the microstructure and crystal structure were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The thermal stability was analyzed using DTA. Electrical measurements showed variations of the dielectric constant (εr) and loss tangent (tan δ) as a function of the time of mechanical treatment.

AB - Fire protection coatings on steel constructions for outdoor conditions on the basis of organic solutions have been analyzed. The first layer of coating is corrosion protection, alkyd paint „PROTHERM STEEL PRIMEPOX“ manufactorer „ITALVIS PROTECT“ Italy. The second layer of coating is an expanding coat for outdoor conditions „PROTHERM STEEL (EXT)“ solvent-bazed, „AMONNFIRE“ Italy. The third layer is final colors for metal „AMOTHERM STEEL TOP PU SB“ „AMONNFIRE“ Italy. XRD, DTA/TG and FTIR methods were used for sample characterization. It was found that primary and outer layer had very good adhesion. The second layer, for fire protection possesses 2.5 mass % humidity, which resulted in decrease of adhesion. XRD and FTIR analysis showed that those materials are adequate materials for fire protection up to 1000°C. Principles of fire protection are based on chemical reaction that are taking place in the temperature range 400-700°C.

AB - Cordierite (MAS) is difficult to sinter because of the very narrow sintering temperature range (1300-1400ºC). Because a low temperature process is desirable, it is necessary to find functional ads which can allow easier sintering process at lower temperature. The influence of MoO3 on the preparation process of cordierite ceramics was investigated. 2MgO-2Al2O3-5SiO2 was researched by sintering followed binary systems: MgO/MoO3, Al2O3/MoO3 and SiO2/MoO3 (all sintered at 850ºC and 1100ºC, sintering time 2h). Composition of these systems was 80 mass% of oxide and 20 mass% MoO3. The effects of sintering, the composition and morphology were followed by X-ray diffraction and SEM microscopy. It has been found that MoO3, beside liquid phase, forms intermediary unstable compounds with MgO and Al2O3, which is the significance information for further research. MAS ceramics were sintered with 20 mass% MoO3 at 1100ºC, 1200ºC and 1300ºC, during 2h. © 2014 Science of Sintering.

AB - Cordierite, 2MgO•2Al2O3•5SiO2 (MAS), is high-temperature ceramic material. Cordierite is commonly used material because of outstanding electrical properties, low temperature expansion coefficient and low dielectric constant. In order to accelerate the process of sintering, 5.00 mass% MoO3 has been added to the starting mixtures. The mechanical activation of the starting mixtures was performed in a high energy ball mill during 0-160 minutes. All starting mixtures were sintered at 1100°C, 1200°C and 1300°C for 2h. The particle size analysis (PSA) was employed in order to determine the changes in the particle size of the mechanically treated powders. The phase composition of the starting powders was analyzed by the X-ray diffraction method. Differential thermal (DTA) and thermogravimetric (TG) analysis were used in order to determine characteristic temperatures within the system during heating. Based on the obtained DTA results, it was established that mechanical activation with additive MoO3, has influence on decreasing sintering temperatures for about 150°C.

AB - Mechanical activation is a commonly used and relatively fast and inexpensive procedure for sample preparation before the sintering process. Cordierite, a stoichiometric mixture of three different oxides (2MgO⋅2Al2O3⋅5SiO2) is a very attractive, widely used high-temperature ceramic material. The mechanical activation of the starting mixtures with 5.00 mass% TiO2 was performed in a high energy ball mill during 10-80 min. The applied compaction pressure before the sintering process was 2t/cm2, based on our recent investigation. The sintering process was performed at 1350oC for 2h and 4h in air atmosphere. X-ray diffraction was used to analyze the phase composition of non-activated and 80 min activated samples, sintered for 2 and 4h, respectively. Scanning electron microscopy was performed to analyze the microstructure of both compacted and sintered samples. Atomic force microscope was used to investigate the surface of the sintered samples. This paper investigates the influence of prolonged sintering time on the densities of the sintered samples, along with electrical properties. [Projekat Ministarstva nauke Republike Srbije, br. AB - According to its low temperature thermal expansion coefficient, low dielectric constant, also good mechanical properties, cordierite, 2MgO×2Al2O3×5SiO2, represents a very attractive hightemperature ceramic material. In this study, cordierite was prepared by solid state reaction of the MgO, Al2O3 and SiO2 mixture. One of the components from the mixture, SiO2, was mechanically activated in a high energy ball mill during 5 and 10 minutes. The applied pressure before the sintering process was 2 t/cm2. Sintering process of mixtures containing non-activated and activated SiO2 powder was performed at 1350 oC for 4h in the air atmosphere. The phase composition of starting oxides and sintered samples was analyzed by the X-ray diffraction method. Particle size analysis was performed to investigate the differences between starting components. Scanning electron microscopy was done to analyze the microstructure of both components and sintered samples. This paper investigates the influence of one mechanically activated SiO2 component on the densities of green bodies as well as on the sintered samples, along with electrical properties of cordierite ceramics.
