њихови преци су неколико векова живели у селу Бајрамич, да би 1922. године били
протерани и плански насељени у Краљевину Југославију, у село Пехчево у
Македонији. У првом делу рада изнети су историјски и подаци из литературе, као и
сазнања казивача сакупљена током теренских истраживања у августа 2016. године о
пореклу и миграцијама Галипољаца. Други део рада посвећен је анализи обликовања,
модификовања, преношења и интерпретирања предања о пореклу у прошлости и
данас.
AB  - Gallipols in Pehčevo, a small town in what is today Eastern Macedonia, are descendants of
population originating from the Gallipoli (Gelibolu) Peninsula in Turkey. Until the end of
the First World War their ancestors had for several centuries lived in the village of Bajramič
(Bayramli); in 1922 they were expelled and resettled in the village of Pehčevo in Macedonia,
then part of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. In the first part of this paper historical data and
facts from the literature are presented, as well as informants’ accounts on the origin and
migration of Gallipols, collected during field research in August 2016. The second part
contains the analysis of the formation, modification, passing down, and interpretation of the
traditions on community’s origin in the past and present.

AB  - Тема прве свеске Гласника Етнографског института САНУ за 2018.
годину нуди поглед уназад на личности, установе и теоријско-методолошке
правце у српској етнологији (и антропологији). „Историјске ретроспективе
етнологије и антропологије“ представљају групу научних радова који дају
нове доприносе критичким интерпретацијама дисциплинарне прошлости у
нас. Разматрања етноантрополошке историје су последњих година све
бројнија у Србији и суседним земљама, и овај темат употпуњује овај успешан
низ студија, настојећи да додатно осветли развој етнологије у 20. веку на
овдашњем простору. Већина радова у овом темату настала је као резултат
излагања на међународној научној конференцији „Ретроспективе и
перспективе етнологије и антропологије“ (Сирогојно, 8. до 10. септембар

AB  - Based on memoires, printed media sources and informants' recollections, this paper
 discusses relations between towns of Maribor (Slovenia) and Kraljevo (Serbia) and between
 inhabitants of these two towns. Politics and ideology have immensely influenced
 establishing of different forms and levels of mutual connections, but also the creation of
 memories about these relations.

AB  - У раду се бавимо етнички различитим категоријама становништва Кнежевине и Краљевине Србије у пописима становништва 1834–1910. Не бавимо се првенствено бројчаним резултатима и статистичким анализама, већ пописима као таквим, које сматрамо значајним инструментом у рукама државе, која има моћ да пребројава, разграничава и
 категоризује становништво. Начин на који су етнички другачије групе становника третиране у пописима сматрамо индикативним и за њихов положај у држави.
AB  - In this paper we deal with ethnically diverse categories of residents of the Duchy and the Kingdom
of Serbia in national censuses conducted between 1834 and 1910, with an accent on those conducted from 1862 – the period when official state statistics institutions were established. We do not deal foremost with numbers and statistical analyses, but with censuses as such – as we consider censuses to be an important instrument in the hands of the state which has the power to count, delineate and categorize the population.

AB  - У излагању представиће се научно-методолошки процес истраживања и досадашњи резултати рада на теми Срби у Батањи етничка
идентификација и стратификација. Истраживачка стратегија подразумева: историјску димензију – реконструкцију прошлости, синхронијску
раван – проучавање свакодневног живота у мултиетничкој средини и
симболички систем у обликовању етничког идентитета. Етнолошки рад
подразумева комплексна теренска истраживања која се заснивају на сакупљању обимне писане и усмене грађе, фото и видео записима, анкетама и
интервијума и др. У излагању се назначавају даље смернице и перспективе
истраживања етничких процеса у оквиру савремених процеса интеграција и културних и друштвених специфичности. У том смислу етнолошка
монографска истраживања мултиетничких средина и регионалних целина јесу релевантни научни пројекти у међуинституционалној и међудржавној сарадњи.
AB  - The paper shall present scientific-methodological research process and so far
achieved results of work on the topic Serbs in Battonya – ethnic identification and
stratification. The research strategy entails: diachronic realm – reconstruction of
past, synchronic realm – studying of the everyday life in a multiethnic environment and symbolic system in shaping the ethnic identity. Ethnological work
involves complex field research based on collection of voluminous written and
oral material, photo and video records, polls and interviews etc. The presentation
indicates further guidelines and perspectives of research of ethnic processes
within contemporary integration processes and cultural and social specificities.
In that sense, ethnological monographic research of multiethnic environments
and regional entities indeed are relevant scientific projects in inter-institutional
and international cooperation.

rétegződés” [Срби у Батањи, етничка идентификација и стратификација]
téma kutatásának tudományos-módszertani folyamatai és eddigi eredményei. A

AB  - Transition as a process of transformation
from a dictatorship and planned economy into a
democratic, pluralistic society and market economy,
has happened in Romania after the1989 revolution.
The process is not over yet, even though Romania
was admitted into EU in 2007. This paper analyzes
several transitional processes, such as reaffirmation
of religious and ethnic membership, and changes towards minorities and
multiculturalism- and their influences on customary life of the Serbs in Timisoara.
The paper accentuates the roles and meanings of new and/or old altered customs in
the life of an individual, family and community, within ethnic and social spheres.
The basis for this analyses is the fieldwork performed in the Serbian minority
community in Timisoara, in 2002-2006, along with literature and magazine Naša
Reč, published in Timisoara in Serbian.

AB  - The first part of the paper includes a broad
description of a variety of the Serbian minority activities
in Timisoara – from religious and cultural to beneficiary,
sports and political. The second part of the paper
discusses the minority’ efforts in keeping and expressing
national identity, in the process of assimilation. The
minority’ activities and organizations, in the past as well
in the present, have, apart from being centers of a social
life, a very important role in preservation of the national identity, recognized by the
informants also. They also represented means and centers used to fight assimilation
(influences of German, Hungarian and Romanian origins) that had tried to influence
the Serbian minority for more than three centuries. The organizations also have
played an important part in formation of the specific Serbian culture in Timisoara,
but also in wider Romanian society and in the homeland.

AB  - This paper deals with international relations
between the Serbian minority community and the
Hungarian majority in Battonya, and in addition, the
relations between the two minority groups – Serbs and
Romanians, from historical perspective, with a special
emphasis on the attitudes of the Serbian minority. Various
levels and types of the inter-relations among these
communities are being assessed and analyzed – on public,
private, individual and collective level. Moreover, the
paper discusses the most important factors that have influenced the creation of
ethnic boundaries between the Serbs and Hungarians and Romanians on the other
side.
The analysis shows that the inter-relations between the Serbs and
Hungarians have gone through different stages: from a total separation before WW
II, following their institutional cooperation later, to harmonious and deeper personal
relations of the members at present. On the other hand, the inter-relations of the
Serbs and Romanians, during the whole period, were marked by a mutual tolerance
and ethnic boundary flexibility, though recently, there has been some degree of
separation between the two.

AB  - The first part of the paper describes a variety of changes that encompass the traditional model of Christmas celebration among Serbs living in Timisoara Romania (reduction, simplification, revival of tradition, adoption of foreign cultural elements and so on), during different time periods. My analysis shows that Christmas customs stand for as markers of the Serbian family and minority in both ethnic and social sense; at the same time, the customs serve as means of ethnic identification and facilitate social hierarchy within the given minority and majority.

My analysis shows that Christmas customs stand for as markers of the Serbian family and minority in both ethnic and social sense; at the same time, the customs serve as means of ethnic identification and facilitate social hierarchy within the given minority and majority.",

AB  - This paper discusses the issue of ethnic/regional identity among Serbian national minority living in Timisoara, Romania. We examine how the Serbs perceive the
relationship between globalization, which acts as a system of complex, diverse and
sometimes contradictory political and cultural processes, and the course of reaffirmation of their regional identity (the Banat district). The analysis shows that the Serbs
have not developed a formed perception of the Banat regional identity; however, they
do acknowledge the Banat region and Timisoara as places with extraordinary cultural
values that represent symbols of European multicultural situation and tolerance. Such
an opinion could facilitate the desirable processes of European integration, but at the
same time, could intensify the gap within the Serbian community. This gap appears as
a difference in cultural and character features, but in fact, it represents a struggle for
higher social positions within the Serbian community.

AB  - The relationship between an ethnicity and different phases of integration (adaptation, acculturation, assimilation) of the Serbian ethnic community in Timisoara is being discussed in various historical periods (the Turkish, Austro-Hungarian and Romanian periods), with an emphasis on an administrative division, space segregation and social mobility of the Serbian population. The analysis shows that the Serbs in Timisoara have been exposed to various kinds of acculturation and assimilation which have sometimes been aggressive, resulting in decrease of the Serbian population. In spite of these facts, the Serbs are nevertheless solidly integrated in the socio-economic life of the city, preserving at the same time, specific cultural characteristics and maintaining a network of institutions of various kinds that affect social life of the community, at the level of the city and the state.

AB  - Based on the data gathered during original research in the Serbian community of Timisoara, in 2002. and 2003, this paper discusses one of the symbols of ethnic identity, namely, the native language. The methods used in the research include questionnaires, interviews, everyday conversation and the participant-observation technique. The analysis covers various aspects and levels of knowledge, as well as the usage of Serbian language; in addition it also includes the most important features that influence the language's persistence during many centuries, as well as noted changes in a multinational environment. Namely, the Serbs in Timisoara have preserved their native, Serbian language as a second language; then-native Serbian language is constantly under the heavy influence of the Romanian language which is the dominant and official language in the area. The analysis shows that the knowledge of Serbian is much higher among the Serbs who received education in their native language, as well as among the older generation while mixed marriages with Romanians contribute to its loss. Romanian language, on the other hand, gradually becomes more and more dominant even in the traditional spheres of life where native language was once in use among family members, minority organizations and in interactions among Mends of Serbian origin. Moreover, mixed marriages and education in the native language influence the persistence of the native language. In spite of many changes in all aspects and usages, Serbian language still remains the symbol of ethnic identity among the Serbs in Timisoara: the language marks the special unity among the Serbs in relation to the surrounding majority and other ethnic groups in the city of Timisoara, and functions as a connection with the tradition and culture of the homeland.

AB  - The Serbs in Temisoara constitute an ethnic/national community of minority type, characterized by a rich history of centuries-long existence in the multi-ethnic setting of a country neighboring to their fatherland, and by a multitude of present-day problems faced in the state hit by social and political transition.
Through the use of symbolic and functional analysis, the paper undertakes to provide an explanation and interpretation as to how and why the Temisoara Serbs have formed, preserved, and expressed their ethnic identity, and to survey the forms and facts of its manifestations in the past and in the present. A contemporary concept of ethnicity/ethnic identity, whose accent is on the situation approach, on the subjective dimension, on the symbolic character, but also on the combined cultural and social aspects of ethnic communion or diversity, represents undoubtedly the most appropriate viewpoint. The focus of research is, consequently, on indicators and symbols (language, faith, traditional customs, norms and values, food, music, etc.) of the actual or imagined compatibility or heterogeneousness in the we-they relations and along the line of ethnic boundaries.
