AB - This article examines attitudes toward the development of a cultural route based on Ottoman heritage in Europe among university students from Bulgaria, Serbia, North Macedonia, Croatia, and Hungary. The online survey results outline the basic preconditions and potential obstacles to the development of such a cultural route, with the lack of public support in most countries identified as one of the major problems. The general conclusion is that both the attractiveness of the route’s content and public support can increase if the thematic focus is set on cultural interactions between different nations rather than on ‘pure’ Ottoman heritage and Islamic religion. This can lead to greater public acceptance and increased interest among stakeholders at the local, national, and international levels, and create the conditions for effective functionality and long-term sustainability of the route.

AB - The history and cultural memory of hajduk's and uskok's movements in the Balkan territory are well-documented, and even became recognized as a part of tangible and intangible heritage through the Balkan region. The historical and cultural importance of those movements is mostly reflected in oral epic literature, toponomastics, and some local traditions and customs. The research aims to analyze the contexts of "hajduks and uskoks" heritage in the territory of former Yugoslavia (Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro), and in particular, the reflections of cultural remains of those movements emphasized in oral traditions and traditional sports and games as intangible cultural heritage of the region. Special focus is placed on various traditional "hajduk games and skills" which were transmitted to the traditional sports events, and reflect great similarities on a regional level. This is confirmed by a comparison of selected events of the ex-Yugoslav area within different contexts. These events are perceived as part of living folk culture and sort of public memorialization of hajduk's and uskok's movements and historic battles, recently becoming a prospective element of intangible cultural heritage with international recognition (eg. Nevesinje Olympics, Alka of Sinj, Ljubičevo Equestrian Games, etc.). However, under the process of popularization and globalization, traditional folk sports and games became a sort of invented tradition under the process of commoditization and commercialization. The scopes and popularity of such sports events and traditions are limited and endangered, demanding more public attention, reaffirmation and support.

AB - The noticeable urgent need for the preservation of collective and cultural memory in Europe, coupled with a fear of loss of important aspects of heritage, indicates the importance of educating the youth who will become future policymakers in the field. Analyses of the survey conducted through this research show the current perspective of youth on the typology of World War II memorials on the territories of the former republics, now independent states, of SFR Yugoslavia in Southeast Europe. Targeting architecture and civil engineering students as a specific youth group who are directly involved in learning about the built memorial structures, as well as the phenomenological background of space, creation of place and memories, resulted in a qualitative observation of the group’s understanding and judgement of the topic. This article investigates the level of knowledge and emotional response to memorial heritage within the target group. It addresses relevant issues of age, gender, level of study, and respondents’ backgrounds, demonstrating the existence of an initial interest in memorial heritage among the architecture-oriented youth. With an additional focus on a possible active role in heritage preservation and future placement, the research indicates a segment in the youth’s comprehension of valuable memorial heritage that needs to be improved.

Personalities shaping travel behaviors: post-COVID Scenario

AB - Purpose
This study aims to offer insights into a sounder understanding of tourist behavior and travel patterns by systematically identifying psychological manifestations reflected in the basic human value system in the pandemic-induced environment.

Design/methodology/approach
A large random sample (49,519 respondents from 29 European countries), generated from the core module Round 9 of the European Social Survey, was used. A post-COVID-19 psychological travel behavior model was constructed by using 12 variables within two opposing value structures (openness to change versus conservatism), shaping specific personalities.

Findings
Four types of tourists were identified by using K-means cluster analysis (risk-sensitive, risk-indifferent, risk-tolerant and risk-resistant). The risk-sensibility varied across the groups and was influenced by socio-demographic characteristics, economic status and even differed geographically among nations and traveling cultures.

Research limitations/implications
First, data were collected before the pandemic and did not include information on tourism participation. Second, the model was fully driven by internal factors – motivation. Investigation of additional variables, especially those related to socialization aspects, and some external factors of influence on travel behaviors during and after the crisis, will provide more precise scientific reasoning.

Originality/value
The model was upgraded to some current constructs of salient short-term post-COVID-19 travel behavior embedded in the core principles of universal human values. By separating specific segments of tourists who appreciate personal safety and conformity, from those sharing the extensive need for self-direction and adventure, the suggested model presents a strong background for predicting flows in the post-COVID-19 era.

AB - The study examines how tourists perceive the security crisis in the MENA region and to what extent it affects their travel decision process. It is based on a survey conducted among Serbian young adult and younger middle-aged residents. The survey tracked the demographic and socioeconomic characteristics of the respondents, their travel habits and attitudes towards the security situation in the Mediterranean. The research shows that the target population is well-aware of the current security situation. The non-parametric statistical tests conducted reveal differences by gender in risk perception. Even though a relocation of tourism demand in Serbia has occurred because of the security crisis, the study findings indicate that the security situation is not a decisive factor in destination selection.

AB - A crisis caused by COVID-19 pandemic affected the whole world leaving long-lasting effects on almost every aspect of human lives. The aim of this study was to test how different effects of COVID-19, expressed through job insecurity, employees' health complaints occurred during isolation, risk-taking behavior at workplace and changes in the organization, may impact work-related attitudes (job motivation and job satisfaction) and turnover intentions of the employees in hospitality industry. Based on the data collected from 624 hospitality workers from Serbia, the results indicated that job insecurity and changes in the organization were predictors of all outcomes, in a negative direction, while risk-taking behavior acted as a predictor of job satisfaction only, also in a negative direction. The significance of demographic characteristics, as control variables, showed that age and marital status had significant impact on job motivation and turnover intentions. The theoretical and practical implications were discussed.

AB - Numerous local initiatives for joint cooperation in the area of improvement of natural environment and resources, heritage protection and the promotion tourism development of Banat are evident. Since Banat is a geographic and historical region that belongs to the three countries, Romania, Serbia and Hungary, for centuries it represented a space for collisions and cooperation between different peoples and cultures. This type of cooperation is nowadays enabled primarily through the emergence of EU financial aid programs, through the development of cross-border regions, and specifically through the so called IPA Cross-Border Cooperation Program. This program contributed to the emergence of a large number of projects aimed at improving primarily social and economic development. In particular, we will focus on presenting projects of promoting natural and cultural resources in the Banat area and along with them in direct connection the tourism development potentials of this area.

AB - Historic towns and their fortresses represent attractive tourist destinations. Cultural tourism in such areas records constant growth, especially when fortresses are located within large urban centers. Fortresses, as important historical sites, are often a subject to various urban plans and projects, aiming at their physical improvement, proper use and better management of cultural resources. The subject of this study is to present the proposals for reconstruction and revitalisation of fortresses, taking the Belgrade Fortress as case study. Based on several architectural and urban-planning ideas proposed during the 20th century for the space of the Belgrade Fortress, the paper will discuss how these visions and solutions have contributed to increase of the attractiveness of this cultural heritage. The Belgrade Fortress complex was first placed under protection in 1946, followed by its declaration for a cultural monument in 1956, issued by the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments of the City of Belgrade. Today, the Belgrade Fortress with Kalemegdan Park is a historic complex enjoying the highest level of heritage protection as a cultural property of outstanding national significance. There were numerous plans for reconstructions and revitalisation of Belgrade fortress and Kalemegdan area. In 1969, a detailed master plan for the Kalemegdan area was developed with long term perspective of the heritage protection. With a view to upgrading Belgrade’s tourism and cultural offer, a priority item on the heritage protection and planning services in the area is generally in accordance with its historical importance and current social needs. The high quality of heritage assets, accumulated in a relatively small area of Belgrade fortress, attracts a large number of tourists every year. However, Belgrade fortresses encounter some problems in sustainable development and proper management, which were partially overcome by the establishment of the strong managing body Public Company „Belgrade Fortress“ in 2002. A visit to historical locations is considered as cultural aspect of tourism. It arises from strong cultural needs of visitors, and relies on their high educational, experiential and visual requirements and expectations. Therefore there is a need for designing high quality tourist offer and a variety of tourist facilities and programmes. Since the historic sites in Serbia is currently in unfavourable situation, dealing with a number of problems in terms of conservation, protection and revitalization, development plans point out the potentials and solutions which can be found in affirmation of tourism. This paper aims to present historical conceptual designs for spatial planning of the Belgrade Fortress, as well as various principles in conservation, protection, improvement and use of fortress as public space, with a special focus on their cultural and tourist significance.

AB - Destinations and cultural resources that are used and respected by both residents and tourists are the ultimate goal of sustainable tourism
development. Sustainable tourism as an emerging paradigm seems to enhance the existing conceptual frameworks on tourism planning and development by making the residents its focal point. In that sense, opinions, and attitudes
of residents on the protection of cultural heritage and the possibilities of tourism development in their environment are very important. The Danube region in Serbia is recognized as a region of high-quality natural characteristics and cultural resources which gives an outstanding opportunity for tourism development. The purpose of the study is to examine the current state of the heritage management in the Danube region in Serbia and to outline the tourism development potentials of the area. The objective of the study is to examine
the role of the local communities in these aspects. The methods used in the study were a public opinion survey, a focus group interview of 12 experts and the evaluation of the sustainable cultural tourism development indicators. The
results have shown that local population in the Danube region in Serbia has, in general, a positive opinion and initial enthusiasm when it comes to tourism development, but their role is marginalized in the process. This is the key proposition to start an initiative for the local communities to actively participate in tourism development.

AB - During the turn of the century, the current data of registered fires in Stara planina were insufficient to up date and incomplete, which directly conditioned unintended purpose of prevention and fire protection. With the advent and development of new technologies (remote sensing, GIS, GPS, etc.), since 2010 various data patterns of fire have been collected, recorded, processed and analyzed. Based on the collected and processed data since 2010 preventive measures against fire and better management of natural resources of protected areas have been implemented. The aim of this paper is spatial analysis and mapping of risk zones of fire in Stara planina, consisting of different vegetation cover, the complex structure of the terrain and heterogeneous composition of the soil. In Stara planina, a total of 44505 fires in the open space, in the period from 2010 to 2012, was registered. Cartographic locating, plotting the recorded ''hot spots'' and analyzing topography (aspect, slope, etc) and collected data for this period, the authors identified and zoned endangered belts of Stara planina.
