Sintering of ZnO, ZnTiO3, and (YCd)2O3 ceramic powders by spark plasma sintering

AB  - The main aim of this work is the study of the compactification of nano-sized semiconductive powders of ZnO, ZnTiO3, and (YCd)2O3 using an advanced spark plasma sintering (SPS) technique. The compacting/sintering process was carried out at a relatively low temperature of 1000 °C and pressure of 50 MPa at 10 min of dwelling time in a vacuum. The samples prepared by this approach were characterized in detail both before and after sintering by SPS: crystallinity and phase composition were determined by the combination of XRD and Raman spectroscopy, thermal stability was analyzed by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC/TG), and, structural characterization was carried out by the electron microscopy. At the same time, mechanical properties were evaluated by micro-nano indentation.
