AB - Ceramic/polymer composites can be chemically stable, mechanically strong, and flexible, which make them candidates for electric devices, such as pressure or temperature sensors, energy storage or harvesting devices, actuators, and so forth. Depending on the application, various electrical properties are of importance. Polymers usually have low dielectric permittivity, but increased dielectric permittivity can be achieved by the addition of the ceramic fillers with high dielectric constant. With the aim to enhance dielectric properties of the composite without loss of flexibility, 5 wt% of BaTiO3-Fe2O3 powder was added into a polyvinylidene fluoride matrix. The powder was prepared by different synthesis conditions to produce core/shell structures. The effect of the phase composition and morphology of the BaTiO3-Fe2O3 core/shell filler on the structure and lattice dynamics of the polymer composites was investigated. Based on the results of the thermal analysis, various parameters of ceramic/polymer composites were determined. Differences in the phase composition and morphology of the filler have an influence on the formation of various polyvinylidene fluoride allomorphs and the degree of crystallinity. Furthermore, the dielectric performances of pure polyvinylidene fluoride and the polymer/ceramic composites were measured.

AB - The hybrid multifunctional magnetic organic/inorganic composite materials, with addition of optimal filler type and quantities are attractive due to wide range of potential application, from various pressure sensors, through smart packaging, to tissue engineering and medicine. The structural, morphological and magnetic properties of polyvinylidene fluoride/nanocellulose/magnetite@BaTiO3 hybrid films were investigated. The presented study revealed significant impact of nanocellulose (NC) content on formation of the polymorphs of PVDF, responsible for ferro-, piezo- and pyroelectric properties. The structural characterization, XRD and Raman measurements confirmed enhancement of the β and γ phases when the loading of NC higher then 4 wt% in multi-component hybrid films. The saturation magnetization value gradually raises with increasing amount of NC and reaches its maximum value of 41.2 emu/g at content of 4 wt% NC. Further, addition of NC decreases saturation magnetization value regardless of constant amount of magnetite, indicating optimal content of NC substrate for co-precipitation of Fe3O4 onto NC matrix.

AB - In the search for environmentally friendly materials with a wide range of properties, polymer composites have emerged as a promising alternative due to their multifunctional properties. This study focuses on the synthesis of composite materials consisting of four components: bacterial nanocellulose (BNC) modified with magnetic Fe3O4, and a mixture of BaTiO3 (BT) and polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF). The BT powder was mechanically activated prior to mixing with PVDF. The influence of BT mechanical activation and BNC with magnetic particles on the PVDF matrix was investigated. The obtained composite films’ structural characteristics, morphology, and dielectric properties are presented. This research provides insights into the relationship between mechanical activation of the filler and structural and dielectric properties in the PVDF/BT/BNC/Fe3O4 system, creating the way for the development of materials with a wide range of diverse properties that support the concept of green technologies.

abstract = "In the search for environmentally friendly materials with a wide range of properties, polymer composites have emerged as a promising alternative due to their multifunctional properties. This research provides insights into the relationship between mechanical activation of the filler and structural and dielectric properties in the PVDF/BT/BNC/Fe3O4 system, creating the way for the development of materials with a wide range of diverse properties that support the concept of green technologies.",

AB - Barium titanate (BaTiO3) and polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) based multifunctional materials are attracting a great scientific interest due to their excellent piezoelectric, pyroelectric and ferroelectric properties. These materials undergo controlled transformations through physical interactions and respond to environmental stimuli, such as temperature, pressure, electric and magnetic fields. Their properties strongly depend on synthesis procedures and obtained microstructures. This include intergranular contact surfaces of BaTiO3 based materials, as well as, porous structure and cross-linking patterns of PVDF prepared by electrospinning. It has been found that these microstructures can have fractal structure and that the fractal analysis can be used as a powerful tool for describing structural and functional properties of these materials. Having this in mind, in this research we have used different fractal methods for the reconstructions of various BaTiO3 and PVDF microstructure morphologies. Fractal analysis has been performed by using scanning electron microscope micrographs and computational modeling tools. Fractal dimension of irregular morphologies which exhibit fractal regularity were determined by using box-counting method. This method enables the analysis of self-similar microstructure morphologies by quantifying the rate at which an object's geometrical details develop at increasingly fine scales. Theory of Iterated Function Systems and Voronoi tessellation, have been used for modeling BaTiO3 random microstructures and PVDF porous structures. A python algorithm was created to determine the distribution of pore areas in SEM micrographs. Algorithm’s distribution of calculated pore surface areas was compared with measured pore surface areas and fractal reconstructions of different morphologies and their connection with functional properties were analyzed.

AB - The convergence of nano-, bio-, and information technologies is based on the understanding of complex hierarchical structures and systems, as well as on the material unity at the nanoscale and on technology integration from that scale. A growing interest in these technologies is a result of their potential to provide solutions to numerous societal challenges, such as advanced healthcare, environmental remediation, sustainable development, and adoption of cyber-physical systems based on the Internet of Things and the Internet of Systems. Taking into account that hybrid nanomaterials possess extraordinary physical and chemical properties derived from their size in the nanoscale, the aim of this work is to present the connection between processing parameters and multifunctional properties of nano scale hybrid materials, focusing on the study of ceramic-polymer structures before they can be nano-engineered into functional devices. The unique functionality of these nanostructures has enabled their applications in numerous devices such as: micro and nano-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS/NEMS), sensors, microactuators, surface acoustic wave devices, polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells, switches, thermistors, resonators and filters, electrooptic devices, etc. In this study special attention has been paid to their applications in the fields of electronics, biotechnology, environmental protection and remediation.

AB - Due to the growing number of people infected with the new coronavirus globally, which weakens immunity, there has been an increase in bacterial infections. Hence, knowledge about simple and low-cost synthesis methods of materials with good structural and antimicrobial properties is of great importance. A material obtained through the combination of a nanoscale hydroxyapatite material (with good biocompatibility) and titanium dioxide (with good degradation properties of organic molecules) can absorb and decompose bacteria. In this investigation, three different synthesis routes used to prepare hydroxyapatite/titanium dioxide nanomaterials are examined. The morphology and semiquantitative chemical composition are characterized by scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray analysis (SEM-EDX). The obtained materials’ phase and structural characterization are determined using the X-ray powder diffraction method (XRD). The crystallite sizes of the obtained materials are in the range of 8 nm to 15 nm. Based on XRD peak positions, the hexagonal hydroxyapatite phases are formed in all samples along with TiO2 anatase and rutile phases. According to SEM and TEM analyses, the morphology of the prepared samples differs depending on the synthesis route. The EDX analysis confirmed the presence of Ti, Ca, P, and O in the obtained materials. The IR spectroscopy verified the vibration bands characteristic for HAp and titanium. The investigated materials show excellent antimicrobial and photocatalytic properties.

AB - The rise of innovation in the electrical industry is driven by the controlled design of new materials. The hybrid materials based on magnetite/nanocellulose are highly interesting due to their various applications in medicine, ecology, catalysis and electronics. In this study, the structure and morphology of nanocellulose/magnetite hybrid nanomaterials were investigated. The effect of nanocellulose loading on the crystal structure of synthesized composites was investigated by XRD and FTIR methods. The presented study reveals that the interaction between the cellulose and magnetic nanoparticles depends on the nanocellulose content. Further, a transition from cellulose II to cellulose I allomorph is observed. SEM and EDS are employed to determine the variation in morphology with changes in component concentrations. By the calculation of magnetic interactions between adjacent Fe3+ and Fe2+ ions within composites, it is determined that ferromagnetic coupling predominates.

abstract = "The rise of innovation in the electrical industry is driven by the controlled design of new materials. By the calculation of magnetic interactions between adjacent Fe3+ and Fe2+ ions within composites, it is determined that ferromagnetic coupling predominates.",

AB - In this study, microstructure evolution and dielectric properties of SrTiO3 ceramic have been investigated, whereby mechanical activation of SrTiO3 powders was used to modify the functional properties of ceramic materials. Microstructural SEM analysis of SrTiO3 ceramics showed that the increase in mechanical activation time results in less porous samples. Raman spectroscopy indicated changes in the broadening and asymmetry of the TO2 mode with a change in the time of mechanical activation. TO2 mode showed a Fano asymmetry due to its interaction with polarization fluctuations in polar micro-regions, which are a consequence of the presence of oxygen vacancies caused by activation. The maximum value of dielectric permittivity was observed in the sample activated for 10 min. Also, the sample activated for 10 min exhibits relatively low values of loss tangent, compared to the other mechanically activated samples, providing the best overall dielectric performance compared to other samples.

AB - The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of the deposition of vanadium oxide epitaxial layer on the photoresponse of TiO2/CH3NH3PbI3 heterojunction. TiO2 nanotube array was synthesized via anodization of titanium foil at three different voltages. After annealing at 450 °C, vanadium oxide was deposited by direct deposition from vanadyl(IV) sulfate solution. Microstructure analysis has been used for the investigation of the influence of different voltages of anodization on tube diameter. Spectroscopy measurements pointed out the red shift in diffusion reflectance spectra after deposition of vanadium oxide. The presence of V5+ oxidation state has been detected on the surface of nanotube arrays by chemical analysis. CH3NH3PbI3 monocrystal was dry pressed on top of the nanotubes in order to make a photodiode. The current-voltage characteristics of the photodiode were recorded and it was observed that the sample with the smallest wall thickness and higher amount of vanadium has the best photocurrent response.

AB - The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of vanadium oxide photosensitive surface layer on the photoactivity of TiO2 nanotubes. Nanotube arrays were synthesized by anodization of titanium foil at different voltages, and vanadium-oxide was deposited by wet chemical deposition. Deposition of the vanadium-oxide layer was confirmed by XPS analysis, which provided the chemical composition of the sample surface. Photovoltaic characteristics and photocatalytic performance for photodegradation of methyl orange dye of modified TiO2 nanotubes were correlated with the nanotube morphology (and anodization voltage). Optimal anodization voltage was determined, in conjunction with the deposition of the surface vanadium oxide layer, in order to achieve maximum performance of the modified TiO2 electrodes. This has been correlated with changes in the optical properties of the TiO2 electrodes, the nanotube length and diameter, as they occur with the change in the anodization voltage, as well as the changes in the vanadium-oxide content in the samples, where the vanadium-oxide content was found to be determined by the nanotube morphology. The photovoltaic performance of the optimized modified TiO2 electrode with the surface vanadium-oxide layer was found to be significantly better than both the performance of the corresponding TiO2 electrode, and the performance of all the other TiO2 electrodes included in the study.

AB - Nanocrystalline Zn2SnO4/SnO2 powder was obtained by a solid state reaction of ZnO and SnO2 nanopowders mixed in the molar ratio 1:1. The phase composition of the obtained powder was studied by XRD and Raman spectroscopy, morphology and texture were characterized by FESEM, TEM, BET and Hg porosimetry, while XPS and FTIR spectroscopy were used to determine the surface chemistry. The influence of humidity on complex impedance was monitored on bulk samples in the relative humidity (RH) range 30–90% in a climatic chamber in the frequency range 42 Hz- 1 MHz at working temperatures of 25 and 50 °C. Change in RH had a significant influence on impedance reduction, especially noticeable in the lower frequency range, indicating potential application of this nanocomposite as a humidity sensing material. Increase in RH led to an increase in AC conductivity that changed with frequency according to the Jonscher power law. The frequency exponent decreased with increase in RH and sample temperature indicating that the correlated hopping barrier model is the dominant conduction mechanism. Complex impedance was analyzed using an equivalent circuit consisting of a parallel resistance and constant phase element, showing the dominant influence of grain boundaries at both working temperatures (25 and 50 °C). The resistance decreased, while the capacitance and relaxation frequency increased with increase in RH. At high humidity an added Wartburg element enabled modeling of the charge diffusion process

AB - Structures and different life functions of microorganisms, like motion, are based on molecular biology processes, which comprise molecular and submolecular particles. It is very important to determine relation between molecular and microorganisms levels. The aim of our research is the analysis of Brownian motion as a general phenomenon and the consequence of structures hierarchy from molecular to microorganisms level. If we approach this idea from the aspect of biomimetic correlations at the level of the alive and nonalive matter system particles, the condensed matter particles could be considered as a part of micro, nano and molecular microorganisms structures. In this research we used the experimental results of bacterial motion influenced by different energy impulses. The important goal of this research paper is to obtain significant data regarding Brownian motion in the frame of fractal nature similarities, as an integrative property of living and nonliving systems particles processes. This opens new frontiers for submicroelectronics relations within the integrated supermicro biophysical systems. This is a potential new trend in nowadays advanced research, where we integrate the knowledges of complex relations between the electrons or other particles and their clusters as joint structures in alive and condensed matter, what could be a possible direction for new microelectronics complex biodevices and integrations.

AB - Neodymium zinc titanate (NZT) is a very attractive perovskite due to its magnetic and dielectric properties. Considering the microstructure influence NZT stability and performance, it is of great importance to establish an approach for the analysis and prediction of grain boundary phenomena. The fractal nature analysis has already proved to be valuable for the reconstruction and prediction of ceramics intergranular electrical properties. However, no researches were performed on the fractal analysis applied on magnetic materials. This method could give an insight in magnetic properties change from the bulk to the grain interface level. In this study, fractal analysis was applied for the Curie-Weiss law correction, introducing fractal correction into magnetic materials for the first time. NZT powders used in this research for fractal analysis were obtained after sintering at different temperatures in the range from 1450°C to 1675°C.Connection between the microstructure fractal nature and the resulting magnetic permeability has been established, enabling the application on different magnetic materials in the future. This creates a foundation for new researches that will lead to further miniaturization of satellite and mobile devices.

AB - Predicting the ceramic materials properties and designing the desired microstructures characteristics are very important objectives in ceramic samples consolidating process. The goal of our research is to calculate the density within consolidated BaTiO3-ceramic samples for different consolidation parameters, like sintering temperature, using obtained experimental data from the material’s surface, by applying back propagation neural network (BP). This method, as a very powerful tool, provides the possibility to calculate the exact values of desired microelectronic parameter at the level of the grains’ coating layers. The artificial neural networks, which have biomimetic similarities with biological neural networks, propagate the input signal forward, unlike the output signal, designated as error, which is propagated backwards spreading throughout the whole network, from output to input neuron layers. Between these two neuron layers, there are usually one or more hidden layers, where the grains of the sintered material are represented by network neurons. Adjustable coefficients, called weights, are forward propagated, like input signals, but they modify the calculated output error, so the neural network training procedure is necessary for reducing the error. Different consolidated samples density values, measured on the bulk, substituted the errors, which are calculated as contribution of all network elements, thus enabling the density calculation of all constituents of ceramic structure presented by neural network. In our future research we plan to increase the number of neurons and hidden layers in order to improve this method to become even more accurate and precise.

AB - The focus of this study is on the control of layers between grains by applying graph theory. We performed modification of BaTiO3 nanoparticles with Y2O3. The results of capacitance change on submicron level are the part of the measured values on the bulk samples. The original idea is to develop the new approach to use graph theory for networking of electronic parameters between the neighboring grains in order to compare the values measured on the sample, and to present them through the edges in graph between corresponding vertices. Capacitance change with DC bias was measured on bulk samples, and the modified nanoparticles showed stability up to 90 V. After using graph theory with the different number of neighboring grains and on different voltages, it has been shown that capacitance change can be successfully calculated on the layers between grains. Original calculations presented as 1D cases were performed, confirming graph application as a tool with which measured bulk results can be downsized to an appropriate intergranular level, opening the new perspectives in the area of miniaturization and micropackaging.

AB - After pioneering attempts for the introduction of graph theory in the field of ceramics and microstructures, where 1D and 2D graphs were used, in this paper we applied 3D graphs for the breakdown voltage calculation in BaTiO3sample with some predefined constraints. We have described the relations between grains in the sample and established a mathematical approach for the calculation of breakdown voltage using experimental results. As a result, we introduced mapping between the property of sample and grain structure, then between the grain structure and mathematical graph, using various crystal structures. The main idea was to apply 3D graph theory for the distribution of electronic parameters between the neighboring grains. With this study, we successfully confirmed the possibilities for applications of graphs as a tool for the determination of properties even at the intergranular level.

AB - Forensic photography, also referred to as crime scene photography, is an activity that records the initial appearance of the crime scene and physical evidence in order to provide a permanent record for the court. Nowadays, we cannot imagine a crime scene investigation without photographic evidence. Crime or accident scene photographs can often be reanalyzed in cold cases or when the images need to be enlarged to show critical details. Fractals are rough or fragmented geometric shapes that can be subdivided into parts, each of which is a reduced copy of the whole. Fractal dimension (FD) is an important fractal geometry feature. There are many applications of fractals in various forensic fields, including image processing, image analysis, texture segmentation, shape classification, and identifying the image features such as roughness and smoothness of an image. Fractal analysis is applicable in forensic archeology and paleontology, as well. The damaged image can be reviewed, analyzed, and reconstructed by fractal nature analysis.

AB - The goal of our research is to establish the direction of coronavirus chaotic motion to control corona dynamic by fractal nature analysis. These microorganisms attaching the different cells and organs in the human body getting very dangerous because we don’t have corona antivirus prevention and protection but also the unpredictable these viruses motion directions what resulting in very important distractions. Our idea is to develop the method and procedure to control the virus motion direction with the intention to prognose on which cells and organs could attach. We combined very rear coronavirus motion sub-microstructures images from worldwide experimental microstructure analysis. The problem of the recording this motion is from one point of view magnification, but the other side in resolution, because the virus size is minimum 10 times less than bacterizes. But all these images have been good data to resolve by time interval method and fractals, the points on the motion trajectory. We successfully defined the diagrams on the way to establish control over Brownian chaotic motion as a bridge between chaotic disorder to control disorder. This opens a very new perspective to future research to get complete control of coronavirus cases.

AB - Biophysical and condensed matter systems connection is of great importance nowadays due to the need for a new approach in microelectronic biodevices, biocomputers or biochips advanced development. Considering that the living and nonliving systems’ submicroparticles are identical, we can establish the biunivocally correspondent relation between these two particle systems, as a biomimetic correlation based on Brownian motion fractal nature similarities, as the integrative property. In our research, we used the experimental results of bacterial motion under the influence of energetic impulses, like music, and also some biomolecule motion data. Our goal is to define the relation between biophysical and physical particle systems, by introducing mathematical analytical forms and applying Brownian motion fractal nature characterization and fractal interpolation. This work is an advanced research in the field of new solutions for high-level microelectronic integrations, which include submicrobiosystems like part of even organic microelectronic considerations, together with some physical systems of particles in solid-state solutions as a nonorganic part. Our research is based on Brownian motion minimal joint properties within the integrated biophysical systems in the wholeness of nature.

AB - There are a lot of recently published research papers regarding representing nanostructures and biomimetic materials, using simple but powerful mathematical methods. In most of them, fractal theory, graph theory and neural networks are used. Having in mind variety of those methods, but in the same time complementarity and compatibility, they became very useful tool, and we named it “Holly Trinity” of mathematical approach in nanostructures. In this research we give an overview on interesting results in modelling nanostructures and their electrochemical and magnetic parameters, using those very actual and “easy to use” methods: fractal theory, graph theory and neural networks. We also compare them, in order to conclude about areas of their most useful applications.

AB - Polymers offer the possibility of different reinforcement incorporation due to a broad range of chemical structures. Along with this feature, their light weight and processing ease made them a class of materials that have been applied in construction parts, drug delivery agents or electronic devices. Epoxy-based composites have used as insulators in microelectronic devices due to its chemical resistance, good adhesion properties and endurance. As epoxies have low fracture resistance, they are often reinforced with different kinds of fibers. With thorough knowledge of the structure, physical properties can be predicted and included in the processing of future composites, especially that electronic materials minituarization brought micro- and nanoscale level properties at spotlight. Fractal nature analysis is a mathematical method that has proved to be efficient in grain interface properties applied on perovskite ceramic materials. In our study, fiber shape reconstruction and determination of Hausdorff dimension have been achieved with the application of fractal regression model employed in software Fractal Real Finder opening a new path for the prediction of reinforcement shape and size, all with the aim of processing composite materials with desired properties
