AB  - The study aims to explore the factors underlying the non-canonical postnominal positioning of adnominal modifiers in the noun phrasе in the Gurbet Romani variety spoken in Еаstern Serbia. The noun phrases are excerpted from the Knjaževac Gurbet Romani corpus, which consists of adults’ and children’s samples of transcribed oral narratives. The quantitative analysis shows that the prenominal position of modifiers is the default one, given the low frequency of postposed modifiers in the adults’  and children’s samples (3.7% and 1.3%, respectively). The main part of the study is focused on the reasons for the non-canonical positioning of modifiers in the NP, and points towards several pragmatic factors as relevant for the postnominal positioning: the contrastive and information focus and stylistic effects.
AB  - Ова студија има за циљ да истражи услове који доводе до позиционирања адноминалних модификатора у постпозицију у именичкој фрази у гурбетском варијетету ромског језика којим се говори у источној Србији. Именичке фразе су ексцерпиране из књажевачког корпуса гурбетског варијетета ромског који се састоји од узорака транскрибованих усмених наратива одраслих и деце. Квантитативна анализа показује да је преноминална позиција модификатора типична, имајући у виду низак проценат модификатора у постноминалној позицији у узорку одраслих (3,7%) и деце (1,3%). Централни део истраживања фокусиран је на разлоге због којих се модификатори позиционирају постноминално у именичкој фрази, а као најрелевантнији издвојени су прагматички фактори – контрастни и информацијски фокус и стилски ефекти.

AB  - The aim of this article is to investigate the sociolinguistic situation in parts of the Torlak dialect area—the Prizren-Timok dialect area in Serbia and the adjacent closely related dialects in Western
Bulgaria. We present the current state of research on Torlak in the domain of its general sociolinguistic situation, and provide an analysis and a synthesis of the previous and contemporary sociolinguistic approaches to Torlak as a whole and to its local varieties in Serbia and Bulgaria.
We address the issues of subjective differentiation among dialects along the border area between Serbia and Bulgaria as well as the types of linguistic situations and language perceptions in the area.
AB  - Cilj ovog članka je da istraži sociolingvističku situaciju u delu torlačke dijalekatske zone - prizrensko-timočke dijlekatske zone u Srbiji i njoj srpdnih dijalekata u Zapadnoj Bugarskoj. Prestavljena su aktuelna istraživanja PT dijalekatske zone u domenu njegove opšte sociolingvističke situacije,kao i analiza i sinteza prethodnih sociolingvističkih pristupa PT dijalekatskoj zoni kao celini i njenih lokalnih varijeteta u Srbiji i Bugarskoj. Ukazuje se na pitanja subjektivne diferencijacije među dijalektima uz granicu između Srbije i Bugarske kao i na tipove lingvističkig situacija i percepcija ovog areala.

AB  - The aim of the paper is to present various steps in the process of data collection in the Torlak areas in Eastern Serbia and Western Bulgaria. In this article the linguonym Torlak refers to a complex of balkanized West South Slavic dialects spoken on the territories of the westernmost parts of Bulgaria, Eastern and Southern Serbia, and northern parts of North Macedonia. Additionally, this complex of dialects encompasses some insular South Slavic varieties spoken
in Romania and Bulgaria. The term Torlak in this article is not used to designate an endonym or exonym for the subethnic group to which its speakers belong.
AB  - Cilj ovog raa je da predstavi različite procese prilkom dokumentovanja građe sa torlačkog areala i Istočnoj Srbiji i Zapadnoj Bugarskoj. U ovom članku lingvonim Torlak se odnosi na kompleks balkanizovanih zapadno-slovenskih dijalekata koji se govore na teritoriji na samom zapadu Bugarsje, Istočne i Južne Srbije i severnom delu Severne Makedonije. AB  - This paper deals with particular linguistic features in Timok variety of Prizren-Timok dialect zone. The features in focus are: 1) marking indirect object and possessor, 2) post-positive demonstratives/ articles, 3) particle si,, and 4) auxiliary omission in the perfect tense. Analysis included socio-geographic factors. Methodologies applied in the analysis included quantitative as well as corpus-based approach. Additionally, variations were observed in contemporary data from speakers across Timok  region.
AB  - Ovaj rad ima za cilj analizu specifičnih crta u timočkom varijetetu prizrensko-timoćke dijalekatske zone. Jezičke crte u fokusu su: 1) markiranje indirektnog objekta i posesora, 2) postpozitivne demosntrative/ članove, 3) partikulu si, 4) izostavljanje pomoćnog glagola u perfektu. Analiza uklučuje i socio-geografske faktore. Metodologiji analize pomenutih crta se pristupa iz kvantitativne i korpusne perspektive.  Varijacije su uoćčene u savremenim podacima dobijenim od govornika timoćkog regiona.

AB  - The study aims to provide a model of the morphological adaptation of Serbian loanverbs to Gurbet Romani spoken in Eastern Serbia and compare the adaptation patterns in speakers of different ages. The loanverbs are excerpted from two samples of narratives: the adults’ sample and the children’s sample. The adaptation markers in the loanverbs were quantitatively analysed across tense (present and past) and valency categories (transitive and intransitive loanverbs and pe-loanverbs and constructions) and showed similar tendencies across the ages. The results point towards the simplification of the adaptation system as the reduction of the adaptation markers to the vocalic components prevails in the present tense. In the past tense, the marker -sard- prevails for both transitive and intransitive loanverbs, while the marker -salj- is typically used to mark reflexivity and borrowed se-constructions. The study suggests that a more fine-grained analysis of the valency is needed, taking into account agentivity as the relevant factor in the distribution of the markers.
AB  - Циљ истраживања је да понуди модел морфолошке адаптације глагола позајмљених из српског језика у гурбетски варијетет ромског којим се говори у источној Србији и да упореди обрасце адаптације код говорника различитих узраста. Позајмљени глаголи су ексцерпирани из два узорка наратива: узорка одраслих и дечијег узорка. Адаптациони маркери код позајмљених глагола су квантитативно анализирани према категорији времена (садашње и прошло) и категорији валенце (транзитивни и интранзитивни позајмљени глаголи и pe-глаголи и конструкције). Анализа показује сличне тенденције међу различитим узрастима. Резултати указују на поједностављење адаптационог система будући да редукција адаптационих маркера на вокалске компоненте доминира у садашњем времену. У прошлом времену, маркер -sard- преовлађује и код транзитивних и код интранзитивних глагола, док се маркер -salj- уобичајено користи за обележавање рефлексивности и позајмљених се-конструкција. Истраживање указује да је потребна прецизнија анализа валенце, која би узела у обзир агентивност као релевантан фактор у дистрибуцији маркера.

In the past tense, the marker -sard- prevails for both transitive and intransitive loanverbs, while the marker -salj- is typically used to mark reflexivity and borrowed se-constructions. The study suggests that a more fine-grained analysis of the valency is needed, taking into account agentivity as the relevant factor in the distribution of the markers., Циљ истраживања је да понуди модел морфолошке адаптације глагола позајмљених из српског језика у гурбетски варијетет ромског којим се говори у источној Србији и да упореди обрасце адаптације код говорника различитих узраста. Позајмљени глаголи су ексцерпирани из два узорка наратива: узорка одраслих и дечијег узорка. Адаптациони маркери код позајмљених глагола су квантитативно анализирани према категорији времена (садашње и прошло) и категорији валенце (транзитивни и интранзитивни позајмљени глаголи и pe-глаголи и конструкције). Анализа показује сличне тенденције међу различитим узрастима. Резултати указују на поједностављење адаптационог система будући да редукција адаптационих маркера на вокалске компоненте доминира у садашњем времену. У прошлом времену, маркер -sard- преовлађује и код транзитивних и код интранзитивних глагола, док се маркер -salj- уобичајено користи за обележавање рефлексивности и позајмљених се-конструкција. Истраживање указује да је потребна прецизнија анализа валенце, која би узела у обзир агентивност као релевантан фактор у дистрибуцији маркера.",

AB  - The aim of this paper is to describe the ongoing development of an electronic corpus of the Timok vernacular, a rare example of an oral dialect corpus of the Serbian language. The corpus comprises data relevant for both linguistics and studies of (traditional) culture, and as such it can help bridge the gap currently present between corpus linguistics and digital humanities. The material contained in the corpus is a result of fieldwork research conducted between 2015 and 2017, mainly within the project Protecting the intangible culture of the Timok vernacular. The paper outlines the phases of fieldwork research, in particular the selection of villages and participants, as well as the open-ended interview methodology applied in data collection. The steps in corpus development are presented next: transcription, annotation (part-of-speech tagging, lemmatization, normalization), and the resulting search options. In addition, an overview of previous and ongoing studies based on the collected material are provided, capturing the domains of dialectology, Balkan linguistics, socio-, areal and anthropological linguistics, as well as studies of folklore and traditional culture, with suggestions for future research in these domains.

AB  - Bibi is non-canonised Romani saint, who occupies a significant part in the 
tradicional culture of some Romani Orthodox communities in Serbia. Based on 
various available sources – ethnographic literature, newspaper articles published 
in daily newspapers in Serbia, recent field research and videos posted on the 
YouTube platform, this paper points out the importance of the Bibi’s cult for 
Romani traditional culture. The given sources are considered in the spatial and 
temporal context. The application of such an analysis enables pointing out the 
classical elements of the Bibi’s cult, possible interpretations of different segments 
of the ritual and its transformation and variation of the narratives about Bibi.
AB  - Бибија је неканонизована ромска светица која у неким 
ромским православним заједницама у Србији заузима значајно место у традицијској култури. У овом раду се на основу различитих доступних извора – 
етнографске литературе, новинских чланака објављених у дневним новинама 
у Србији, рецентних теренских истраживања и видео-снимака постављених 
на платформу Јутјуб – указује на значај култа Бибије за ромску традицијску

AB  - The paper offers a critical survey of vulnerable and endangered languages and linguistic varieties in Serbia presented in three international inventories: UNESCO’s Atlas
of the World’s Languages in Danger, Ethnologue and The Catalogue of Endangered Languages. As the inventories differ widely in terms of assessing the exact level of language endangerment and vulnerability, and lack to provide empirical support for their assessment,
the paper provides thorough information from official local sources, relevant studies and
the authors’ own field research, when available, on the language categorized as endangered

AB  - This paper is based on the fieldwork anthropological and linguistic data, documented
from 2015 to 2017 in Knjaževac and surrounding villages. On the one hand, the paper aims
at pointing out the place of ecology in social sciences and humanities, highlighting the most
important terms and directions of studies in the field of ecology. On the other hand, the fragments
of fieldwork interviews indicate ecological consciousness of the participants who spontaneously
highlight the environmental vulnerability and observe the consequences of the disturbed
equilibrium in nature for everyday life. Paying attention to these issues in fieldwork narratives
triggers the need for systematical study of ecological awareness in social sciences and humanities, as well as for its urgency.

AB  - The aim of this paper is to demonstrate the transformation of everyday life of the residents of the rural communities, during the period from the Second World War to the present, based on field material recently documented in the villages in Eastern Serbia. The transformations are studied through the context of socioeconomic changes that occurred during the socialist period and the transition period, on the one hand, and in the context of contemporary legislation, on the other, which has been changing considerably and limiting everyday life in rural communities, one of the consequences being changes in view on what used to be everyday activities. The analysis is limited to the phenomenon of the disappearance of hemp and hemp cloth, which once had great value and constituted the basis for clothing in the studied rural communities. The contribution is based on material collecting during team field research, part of the 'Protecting Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Torlak Vernacular' project, conducted from 2015 to 2017. The motive for initiating this project was the fact that Torlak is on UNESCO list of endangered languages, classified as vulnerable.
AB  - Cilj ovog rada je da ukaže na transformaciju svakodnevnog života stanovnika ruralnih zajednica, tokom perioda od Drugog svetskog rata do danas, i to na osnovu terenskog materijala nedavno dokumentovanog u selima Istočne Srbije. Transformacije su istraživane u kontekstu socioekonomskih promena koje su se odigrale tokom socijalističkog, ali i tranzicionog perioda, s jedne strane, i u kontekstu savremene legislative, s druge, koje su se drastično menjale i ograničavale svakodnevni život u ruralnim zajednicama. Analiza je ograničena na fenomen nestajanja konoplje i odeće od konoplje, koja je nekada imala veliku vrednost i činila osnovu odevanja u ruralnim zajednicama. Rad je zasnovana na materijalu dokumentovanom u terenskim istraživanjima u okviru projekta  „Čuvari nematerijalne baštine timočkih govora“, sprovođenog od 2015. do 2017. godine. Motiv za pokretanje ovog projekta je činjenica da se timočki govori nalaze na Uneskovoj listi ugroženih jezika, te da su klasifikovani kao ranjivi.

Прилог представља наставак ауторових истраживања из области невербалне комуникације и методологије визуелних теренских истраживања. Овом приликом биће разматрана једна од не честих ситуација у теренским антрополошко-лингвистичкм истраживањима, ситуација у којој се и саговорник и истраживач налазе у истом кадру током видео-документовања теренског разговора. Уочено је да овакав спацијални распоред истраживача и саговорника омогућава тактилни контакт између њих, одн. да саговорник користи тактилни гест у комуникацији са истраживачем. Анализа примера ексцерпираних из теренског разговора вођеног у Дињашу указује да се тактилни гестови користе у функцији скретања пажње, маркирања наративног фокуса, колективног знања, смеха, као и за симулацију описиване радње.

AB  - The paper reports on "Romani-Serbian Dictionary of the Knjaževac Gurbet Variety" (Ćirković & Mirić 2017), which originated from work on the project "Exploring the Language and Folklore of Roma in Knjaževac", financed by the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Serbia in two project cycles, 2016 and 2017. The project was spearheaded by the “Njegoš” National Library in Knjaževac. The linguistic team in cooperation with local Roma activists carried out field documentation of the language and folklore tradition of the Roma in Knjaževac and Minićevo. The primary goal was the documentation of Romani language and tradition, the secondary the development and practical implementation of the specific field work methodology. The language material collected was used to compile a Romani-Serbian dictionary with a brief collection of selected texts in Romani.

За потребе овог рада креиран је мултимодални корпус наратива на тему гајења и прераде конопље, који осим дословно транскрибованих вербалних елемената наратива, садржи и маркиране невербалне елементе – гестове, неодвојиво повезане са вербалним елементима, тј. пратећим речима (lexical affiliates). Анализа гестова и пратећих вербалних делова разговора има за циљ да покаже да се за потребе симулације описиваних радњи, илустрације предмета који се користе приликом тих радњи и производа који настају као њихов резултат углавном користе иконички гестови, док се указивање на просторне релације, илустрацију облика и величине неког предмета користе деиктички гестови. Деиктички гестови се често јављају заједно са иконичким гестовима, али су пратеће речи деиктици (најчешће показне заменице). Ритмички гест се користи за потребе динамизовања нарације. Низањем гестова у оквиру једне гестовне јединице истиче се сукцесивност, али и динамичност радње у целини. У раду се дискутује и веза гестова са врстом и граматичким категоријама пратећих речи.
AB  - This work was based on material collected during anthropological and linguistic research in settlements in the Timok Valley as part of  a project entitled Protecting the Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Torlak Vernacular. Although the primary goal of the project was to document language and traditional culture, the use of video cameras in field interviews provided opportunities for research into non-verbal communication. For the purposes of this paper, a small multimodal corpus of narratives on the topic of the cultivation and processing of hemp was created. Besides the literally transcribed verbal elements of the narratives, the corpus also contains non-verbal elements - gestures, inseparably linked to verbal elements (lexical affiliates). Analysis of gestures and the accompanying verbal parts of the conversation aims to show that, iconic gestures are mostly used to simulate the actions described or illustrate the objects used in them and the resulting products, while deictic gestures are used to indicate spatial relations and illustrate the form and size of an object. Deictic gestures often appear together with iconic gestures, but the lexical affiliates are deictics (usually demonstrative pronouns). The beat is used to dynamize narration. By bridging the gestures within a single gesture unit, successiveness is emphasized, as well as the dynamics of the action as a whole. The paper also discusses the connection of gestures and the type and grammatical categories of the lexical affiliates.

A multimodal transcript of narrative on the cultivation and processing of hemp was created. It shows that besides verbal elements in narration, non-verbal elements – gestures are used too. An analysis of the multimodal transcript of narrative indicates the dominant use of three types of gestures – iconic, deictic, and beat, whose lexical affiliates belong to the category of verbs, adjectives and deictic words (mostly demonstrative pronouns). The paper also discusses the possibility of creating comparable multimodal corpora.

AB  - Први део рада чини преглед теренских лингвистичких истраживања ромског језика у Србији, обављаних у крајем 20. и 21. веку, организованих од стране научних институција из земаља Западне Европе. У питању су резултати укључени у онлајн лексичке и морфосинтаксичке базе, архивирани у великим универзитетским и истраживачким центрима и доступни свим лингвистима. У другом делу рада анлизирана су дисциплинарно различито усмерена истраживања ромских заједница у Србији, која обављају истраживачи из Србије, с тим да се она углавном обављају на српском језику, те прикупљен теренски материјал није подесан за лингвистичка истраживања ромског језика. Резултати малобројних, спорадичних и несистематских истраживања ромског језика у Србији најчешће нису доступни осталим истраживачима (пре свега лингвистима). У раду се, стога, скреће пажња на неопходност умрежавања научних институција у Србији, систематско спровођење теренских истраживања и потребу да се креирају корпуси ромског језика, са циљем да се установи дистрибуција ромских дијалеката и варијетета на територији Србије и омогуће њихова лингвистичка истраживања. Пример добре праксе представља рад на пројекту Језик и фолклор Рома у Књажевцу, у коме је сарадња лингвиста, локалних институција, и локалне ромске заједнице резултирала ромско-српским речником, као и развијеним моделом заштите ромског језика.
AB  - This paper provides an overview of team field linguistic research of the Romani language in Serbia, conducted in the 21st century, organized by scientific institutions from the countries of Western Europe, whose results are included in online lexical and morpho-syntactic bases, and archived in universities and research centers. The results of these researches are available to all linguists interested in the Romani language. Researchers of the academia in Serbia are conducting a large number of disciplinary heterogeneous researches of Roma communities in Serbia, with field research being conducted in the Serbian language. The collected field material is not suitable for linguistic research into the Roma language. The results of small, sporadic and non-systematic linguistic research of Romani language in Serbia are usually not available to other researchers (primarily linguists). 
The paper therefore draws attention to the necessity of networking of scientific institutions in Serbia, the systematically organized field research and the need to create Romani language corpus. The main goal of these researches would be creating the map of Roma dialects and varieties in the territory of Serbia and creating corpora for linguistic research of Romani language in Serbia. An example of good practice is the work on the project Romani Language and Folklore in Knjaževac, where the cooperation of linguists, local institutions and local Roma communities resulted in Romani-Serbian dictionary, as well as a model for the protection and preservation of the vulnerable Romani language.

AB  - На основу теренских видео и аудио записа, насталих током 2015. и 2016. у
насељима у околини Књажевца, радом се успоставља инвентар лековитог биља код
саговорника који се њиме баве на традиционалан начин, за сопствену употребу.
Овај инвентар упоређен је са одговорајућим терминима у референтном Ботаничком
речнику Драгутина Симоновића, а посебно су издвојени фитоними којих нема у
овом речнику, као ни у одговарајућим дијалекатским речницима тимочких говора
Јакше Динића и Љубише Рајковића (спуркатњача, лизбиље, тиквин цвет, мачји
језик). У разговорима добијени подаци: називи биљака, место на којем расту, кад
се беру, садрже и „метаподатке“ који подразумевају упућивање на биљку, њен и
изглед невербалним средствима – углавном гестом. Аудио-снимањем ови остају
невидљиви, а с обзиром на то да истраживачи не транскрибују разговоре одмах
након снимања, могу остати изгубљени. Стога се истиче потреба за видео-
бележењем, које би допринело бољем разумевању контекста теренског наратива.
AB  - Аn inventory of medicinal herbs is established оn the basis of field video and
audio recordings created during 2015 and 2016 in settlements close to Knjaževac. The
inventory reflects interlocutors’ dealing with medicinal herbs. This inventory is compared
with the corresponding terms in the referent botanical dictionary of Dragutin Simonović,
as well as in the corresponding dialect dictionaries of the Timok speeches of Jakša Dinić
and Ljubiša Rajković. The phytonyms which are not registered in these dictionaries are
particulary highlighted (e.g. spurkatnjača, lizbilje, tikvin cvet, mačji jezik).
Talking about medicinal plants and their place in traditional culture draw attention
to important topics of humanities – the role of medicinal herbs in traditional healing
and knowledge of medicinal plants that are acquired over time, but also lost under the
influence of modern drugs, which points to the need for institutional protection of this
type of knowledge. Since medicinal plants are used for the healing or treatment of disease
(or distress), talk about medicinal plants draws attention to the traditional approach

abstract = "На основу теренских видео и аудио записа, насталих током 2015. и 2016. у
насељима у околини Књажевца, радом се успоставља инвентар лековитог биља код
саговорника који се њиме баве на традиционалан начин, за сопствену употребу.
Овај инвентар упоређен је са одговорајућим терминима у референтном Ботаничком
речнику Драгутина Симоновића, а посебно су издвојени фитоними којих нема у
овом речнику, као ни у одговарајућим дијалекатским речницима тимочких говора
Јакше Динића и Љубише Рајковића (спуркатњача, лизбиље, тиквин цвет, мачји
језик). У разговорима добијени подаци: називи биљака, место на којем расту, кад
се беру, садрже и „метаподатке“ који подразумевају упућивање на биљку, њен и
изглед невербалним средствима – углавном гестом. Аудио-снимањем ови остају
невидљиви, а с обзиром на то да истраживачи не транскрибују разговоре одмах
након снимања, могу остати изгубљени. Стога се истиче потреба за видео-
бележењем, које би допринело бољем разумевању контекста теренског наратива., Аn inventory of medicinal herbs is established оn the basis of field video and
audio recordings created during 2015 and 2016 in settlements close to Knjaževac. The
inventory reflects interlocutors’ dealing with medicinal herbs. This inventory is compared
with the corresponding terms in the referent botanical dictionary of Dragutin Simonović,
as well as in the corresponding dialect dictionaries of the Timok speeches of Jakša Dinić
and Ljubiša Rajković. The phytonyms which are not registered in these dictionaries are
particulary highlighted (e.g. spurkatnjača, lizbilje, tikvin cvet, mačji jezik).
Talking about medicinal plants and their place in traditional culture draw attention
to important topics of humanities – the role of medicinal herbs in traditional healing
and knowledge of medicinal plants that are acquired over time, but also lost under the
influence of modern drugs, which points to the need for institutional protection of this
type of knowledge. Since medicinal plants are used for the healing or treatment of disease
(or distress), talk about medicinal plants draws attention to the traditional approach
to diseases – what is considered a disease, how it is treated, and who are people with
knowledge and skills in healing.",
