AB - The aim of this research was to investigate for the first-time photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue over SrGd2O4 powders co-doped with constant Er3+ (0.5 at.%) and different Yb3+ (1, 2.5 and 5 at.%) concentrations. Samples were successfully prepared via sol-gel assisted combustion method. They exhibit photoluminescence properties which are manifested as red emission at 661 nm (4F9/2 → 4I15/2) and two green emissions at 551 and 523 nm (4S3/2 → 4I15/2 and 2H11/2 → 4I15/2). X-ray Powder Diffraction pattern proved that all samples crystallize as a pure orthorhombic phase. Scanning electron microscopy was used for morphology characterization and it revealed the existence of porous agglomerated round-shaped particles. Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy showed the presence of dopant ions and even distribution of all constituting elements. To calculate the energy band gap, UV-VIS diffuse reflectance spectroscopy was performed and a value of 4.3 eV was obtained, as well as the four additional values from the bands at lower energies. Photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue was monitored using UV-VIS absorption spectroscopy. Obtained results were promising since after 4 h of exposure to the simulating Sun irradiation, more than 50% of the starting dye concentration was mineralized.

AB - In this investigation, samples of strontium-gadolinium-oxide (SrGd2O4) doped with different Yb3+ (2, 4 and 6 at%) and constant Ho3+ (1 at%) contents and co-doped with Bi3+ (2 at%) were prepared using the glycine-assisted sol–gel method. The pure orthorhombic SrGd2O4 phase, space group Pnma, was revealed using X-ray diffraction in all samples. Transmission electron microscopy discovered agglomerated clusters of spherical particles measuring approximately 150 nm in size. The inclusion of Bi3+ ions into the structure influenced the morphology since the formation of larger grains was observed, with sizes reaching up to ∼1.7 μm. The uniform distribution of all constitutive elements was confirmed by energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. In all samples, up-conversion emission spectra revealed two dominant green (540 and 550 nm), red (671 nm), and infrared (758 nm) emission lines, due to the 5F4,5S2→5I8, 5F5→5I8, and 5F4,5S2 → 5I7 transitions, respectively. The sample co-doped with Bi3+ showed the most intense photoluminescent emissions, shorter luminescence decay, and the highest quantum yield. Additionally, a significant decrease in the energy band gap value was detected using diffuse reflectance spectroscopy for this sample. Methylene blue was used as a test pollutant to investigate its photocatalytic efficiency under simulated sunlight irradiation. The results show that Bi3+ co-doping deteriorates the photocatalytic efficiency of the SrGd2O4:Yb3+/Ho3+ phase by reducing hydroxyl radical formation.

AB - Nanopowders of up-conversion SrGd2O4 orthorhombic (Pnma) phase co-doped with different Yb3+ (1, 2.5 and 5 at%) and constant Er3+ (0.5 at%) ions were successfully prepared via sol-gel assisted combustion. Rietveld refinement indicated unit cell lattice parameters increase with Yb3+ and Er3+ ions doping. Scanning transmission electron microscopy with corresponding energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy revealed that obtained powders are composed of agglomerated nanoparticles that have a uniform distribution of all constituting elements. Photoluminescence measurements implied intensification of the up-conversion (UC) emission in the visible part of spectrum with the increase of Yb3+ content, which is followed by a significant change in the green to red ratio. Two-photon UC processes are established as a result of Er3+ f-f electronic transitions: green emission at 523 and 551 nm (2H11/2, 4S3/2 → 4I15/2) as well as a red emission at 661 nm (4F9/2 → 4I15/2). The highest value of absolute quantum yield of 0.055% is determined for SrGd2O4 nanoparticles doped with 0.5 at% of Er3+ and co-doped with 5 at% of Yb3+ (λexc = 976 nm, power density 200 W/cm2).

AB - In this work we present new up-conversion materials, consisted of SrGd2O4 doped with different concentration of Yb3+ (2, 4, 6 at%) ions and constant concentration of Tm3+ (1 at%), prepared by the combustion method. X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD) showed that assynthesized nanoparticles have orthorhombic structure (Pnma), assigned to the JCPDS Card No:01-072-6387. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) revealed that obtained nanostructure is composed of porous agglomerated nanoparticles, while energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) confirmed presence and uniform distribution of all constituting elements accross the sample. Luminescent properties were evaluated and discovered two blue emission bands at 450 nm and 474 nm, and one red emission band at 650 nm. The sample co-doped with 4 at% Tm3+ showed the most intense photoluminescent emission, and because of that was used in the photocatalytic exiperiment. UV-VIS Diffuse Reflectance Spectroscopy was performed in order to examine materials bandgap, and value of 4.3 eV was obtained as well as the additional values from the bands at lower energies, which indicate potentially good photocatalytic properties. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) revealed presence of OHgroups on the surface which also have positive impact on the photocatalytic performances of the material. UV-VIS Absorption Spectroscopy was used to measure changes of the methylene blue concentration during the photocatalytic degradation process. After 4 h of exposure to the simulating Sun irradiation, the results indicate successful dye decomposition rate. Reaction parameters (MB concentration and catalyst mass) were altered in order to achieve the best photocatalytic performances of this newly synthesized materials.

Up-conversion emission properties were evaluated from photoluminescent emission spectra and intensity dependence on excitation power after excitation at 976 nm. Dominant green (550 nm), red (671 nm), and infrared (758 nm) 5F4, 5S2 → 5I8, 5F5 → 5I8, 5F4, 5S2 → 5I7 transition emissions, respectively, are detected in all samples. Including Bi3+ ions into the structure influenced the morphology of the sample showing fine packing of pyramidal-shaped nanoparticles. The uniform distribution of constitutive elements in the samples was confirmed by energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). The sample co-doped with Bi3+ showed the most intense photoluminescent emission.",

AB - Iron(III) titanates are attracting rapidly growing interest as very promising candidates for applications in solar energy and optoelectronics because they contain earth-rich elements. Potentially, Fe2TiO5 is a thermoelectric material. We used a Vibrating Sample Magnetometer and Superconducting Quantum Interferometer Device Magnetometer to study the magnetic properties of the pseudobrookite material Fe2TiO5. The material was synthesized by the sol-gel method. The structural parameters of the synthesized samples were investigated by X-ray analysis. The diffractogram was refined with the help of Rietveld refinement on FullProf Suite. Temperature-dependent ZFC and FC magnetization was measured on SQUID for lower temperature down to 2 K and on VSM for higher temperatures up to 1000 K. A transition was observed at 815 K with a separation between the ZFC and FC curves. Parallelly the bifurcation in the isothermal hysteresis measurements indicates that the system exhibits dominant canted AFM (or weak FM) with a small amount of spin glass. The small value of the moment was also pointing towards the canted AFM ordering. The size and morphology of the particles was determined using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).

AB - The process where long-wavelength excitation radiation is converted into shorter wavelength output radiation is known as photon upconversion (UC). Research of up conversion materials is mainly focused on chloride, bromide, fluoride and oxide compounds doped with Pr3+, Nd3+, Dy3+, Ho3+, Er3+ and Yb3+ as activators [1]. Activators are incorporated in the form of rear earth elements (REE) at a proper position in the host lattice. The unique emission mechanism of REE is associated with the incompletely filled 4f shell which enables large numbers of sharp intra-4f electronic transitions and the existence of abundant, long-living electronic excited states. Oxides possess relatively low phonon energy, high thermal stability and admirable intrinsic luminescence properties compared to chlorides and fluorides as host crystal lattice [2,3]. Various host latticed and dopant metal ions have been implemented for obtaining new UC compounds and in our work we studied Ln2MoO6 (Ln=Y,Gd) and Sr2Gd2O4 doped with various concentrations of Yb3+ at constant Er3+ concentration. Synthesized powders were examined by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and luminescence emission and excitation spectroscopy. XRD analyses showed that SrGd2O4 single phase is obtained at 1100 °C, Gd2MoO6 phase starts to form at 750 °C and the pure phase is obtained at 900 °C, while Y2MoO6 was obtained at the lowest temperature of 600 °C. TEM analyses gave insight into particle size - powders obtained at lowest temperatures (Y2MoO6) have the smallest particle size in the range of ~10 nm (Figure 1a), while SrGd2O4 exhibited grain sizes in 150-200 nm range (Figure 1b). The EDS mapping confirmed presence of Yb3+, uniformly distributed in host lattice. Photoluminescence spectra of SrGd2O4 showed emission peaks that can be assigned to the trivalent Er3+ f-f electronic transitions in the following way: two green emission bands at 523 and 551 nm while the red emission band at 661 nm. Continual intensification of UC with the increase of Yb3+ content indicates that the SrGd2O4 host matrix easily accommodates high dopant concentration without quenching. Photoluminescence properties showed that co-doped Y2MoO6 has double emitting luminescence with green emission band at 546 and 560 nm (2H11/2, 4S3/2 → 4I15/2) and red emission band at 655 nm (4F9/2 → 4I15/2); Gd2MoO6 showed double emitting luminescence with two green emission bands at 525 and 546 nm as well as a red emission band at 657 nm. The green UC emission intensity increased gradually with the increment of Yb3+ ion concentration. In comparison, the optimal doping concentration for the red UC emission was found to be 2.5 at %, which was much higher than that of the green UC emission. While the change of Yb3+ ion concentration does not influence the band position, it led to the change of the emission intensity. Increase of Yb3+ concentration in the host lattice leads to change of the green to red ratio, showing the ability for fine-tuning of the color output. Therefore, these materials can be used in lasers and devices for optical communications because of the infrared-to-visible light conversion.

AB - In recent decades, inorganic luminescent materials have gathered significant attention due to their great potential for various applications [1-4]. The rare-earth (RE)-based UC luminescent materials are particularly interesting for their exceptional optical, electronic, and magnetic properties. These materials have distinct intra-4f electronic transitions and existence of plenty long-living electronic excited states at different energies, all of which makes electron promotion to high-energy states possible [5, 6]. RE-based UC luminescent materials are composed of a host material (matrix), a sensitizer (absorbs the IC radiation), and an activator (provides emission in the visible and UV part of the spectrum) [7]. So far, the best results have been gained by co-doping the matrix using Yb3+ as sensitizer and Er3+, Ho3+, Tm3+, etc. as activators [8-10]. As for the hosts, rare-earth oxides (ARE2O4; A = Ca, Sr, Ba and RE = trivalent rare-earth ions) have great perspective for producing highly efficient luminescent materials. To the best of our knowledge, SrGd2O4 has been poorly investigated so far, although it has an enormous potential for variety of applications since it is environmentally friendly, has high thermal stability and good chemical durability [11]. In this work, we will present new UC luminescent material composed of SrGd2O4 (host) doped with Yb3+ (sensitizer) and Tm3+ (activator). Control of particle morphology has attracted a great deal of attention from researchers, so efforts for finding appropriate synthesis method are still very current issue. The morphology of the obtained particles is mostly influenced by the synthesis methods used for preparing the material. Luminescent properties mainly interested for us, are in very close connection with the morphology. Here, samples were synthesized using glycine-assisted combustion method, with constant concentration of Tm3+ (1 at%) and different concentration of Yb3+ (2, 4, 6 at%). All samples were heated in the furnace at 500 °C for 1.5h and then thermally treated for 2.5 h at 1000 °C. X-ray diffraction (XRD) was used to see phase crystallinity and purity, and revealed that all peaks are assigned to the pure orthorhombic lattice of SrGd2O4 with space group Pnma (JCPDS Card No.:01-072-6387). Luminescent properties were investigated after recording UC luminescence spectra at room temperature under 980 nm excitation for all samples. The spectra revealed strong blue emission bands which originates from Tm3+ ions 1D2 → 3F4 and 1G4 → 3H6 and weak red emission 1G4 → 3F4 transitions. Morphology and structure were thoroughly studied by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), whilst energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) was used to provide additional information about constituting elements and their distribution. FE-SEM analysis revealed irregular spherical-like morphology with all samples, and particle size of around 100 nm. TEM examination showed nanostructures organized as a group of agglomerated nanoparticles. EDS verified uniform distribution of all composing elements through every sample [12].

EDS verified uniform distribution of all composing elements through every sample [12].",

AB - Optically active materials have a wide range of applications. The phenomenon of light conversion includes two main types: up-conversion, which is the ability of convertion lower energy photons into the ones with the higher energy, and down-conversion, which is vice versa. Orthorhorhombic SrGd2O4 doped with rare earth elements is established to have promising optical characteristics, but rarely explored until nowadays as up-converting material. Due to the phonon energy of around 475 cm-1, which is lower than in many other compounds commonly used hosts, this one has a great perspective as an optically active material. Here, for the first time two combinations of rare earth dopant ions, Yb3+/Ho3+ and Yb3+/Tm3+, with different mutual ratios were chosen as pairs for inducing up-conversion. Sol-gel assisted combustion synthesis, which comprises citric acid as chelator and glycine as fuel, was used to obtain powdered samples that are subsequently thermally treated for 3.5 h at 1100°C. X-ray powder diffraction analysis (XRPD) was performed to determine crystal structure. Morphology characteristics were observed by scanning and transmission electron microscopy (SEM/TEM). Photoluminescent up-converting properties were measured in function of laser power (976 nm) in order to define optimal doping concentration and upconversion mechanism.

AB - Up-conversion properties of SrGd2O4 nanoparticles co-doped with different Yb3+ and constant Er3+ ions were successfully prepared via sol- gel assisted combustion. Rietveld refinement and scanning/transmission electron microscopy with corresponding energydispersive X-ray spectroscopy revealed that obtained powders are composed of agglomerated nanoparticles with orthorhombic (Pnma) structure that have a uniform distribution of all constituting elements. Photoluminescence measurements implied intensification of the upconversion (UC) emission in the visible part of spectrum with the increase of Yb3+ content, which is followed by a significant change in the green to red ratio. Two-photon UC processes are established as a result of Er3+ f-f electronic transitions: green emission at 523 and 551 nm (2H11/2, 4S3/2 → 4I15/2) as well as a red emission at 661 nm (4F9/2 → 4I15/2). The highest value of absolute quantum efficiency (0.055%) is determined for SrGd2O4 nanoparticles doped with 0.5 at% of Er3+ and co-doped with 5 at% of Yb3+ (λexc=976 nm, power density 200W/cm2).

Of all the samples, the one activated for 270 min exibited the most prominent piezoelectric effect of up to 1.17 mV under the applied pressure of 113 kPa with the relaxation time of 85 s. The pressure dependence of voltage showed three successive, distinct domains in which the voltage rise differed, with the rate of 0.09 mV/kPa in the initial one (ranging from 0.00 kPa to 5.66 kPa of the external pressure), 0.01 mV/kPa in the second one (from 5.66 kPa to 56.60 kPa) and ultimately the plateau occuring from approximately 60 kPa onwards. When heated to 200 °C, the same sample manifested the biggest pyroelectric effect as well, being 0.55 mV with no external field applied, as well as 1.04 mV when subjected to the homogenous magnetic field of 50 kA/m, thus yielding a 89% net increase of the incited voltage observed.

AB - In this work we present new up-conversion materials, consisted of SrGd2O4 matrix co-doped with different Yb3+ (1, 2.5 and 5 at%) and constant Er3+ (0.5 at%) concentrations, prepared by gycine-assisted combustion method. X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD) showed that assynthesized nanoparticles have orthorhombic structure (Pnma), assigned to the JCPDS Card No:01-072-6387. Rietveld refinement indicated a decrease in the size of the unit cell, lattice parameters, and cell volume, due to successful doping of Yb3+ and Er3+ ions into the matrix. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) revealed that obtained nanostructure is composed of agglomerated nanoparticles, while energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) confirmed uniform distribution of all constituting elements in them. Up-conversion (UC) luminescence spectra measured in function of laser pumping power indicated that two-photon UC process is established in nanoparticles as a result of the trivalent erbium f-f electronic transitions: there are two green emission bands at 523 and 551 nm (2H11/2, 4S3/2 → 4I15/2) and a red emission band at 661 nm (4F9/2 → 4I15/2). The rise of Yb3+ concentration from 1 to 5 at% provokes a considerable change of the green to red ratio which indicates the possibility to optimize the color output.

AB - Mixtures of high purity powders of 50 mass% Fe, 4 mass% Pb, 3 mass% Zr and 43 mass% BaTiO3 were activated in a rotary ball mill for durations ranging from 30 min to 300 min; samples were then sintered in the air atmosphere for 2 hours at 1200 °C. Crystal structure prediction has been performed using Bond ValenceCalculation (BVC) method. Moreover, theoretical stability of theperovskite structure for synthesized and calculated Fe/Pb/Zr-codoped barium titanatecompounds has been investigated using the Goldschmidttolerance factor (Gt) and global instability index (GII).It was observed that magnetization of the system decreased after the sintering, with the most dramatic drop of 90.11% belonging to the sample activated for 150 min. In comparison with initial powders, X-ray powder diffractiondata confirmed the presence of newphases of BaFe12O19 and Ba1.696Ti0.228O3 in sintered samples. Utilizing the field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), it was found that with the increase of activation time the morphology of the samples progressed from irregural, spherical grains to mostly rod-like ones. Energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis identified the presence of Pb and Zr occupying the same locations on the surface of sintered samples, whilst Fe was uniformly deployed regardless of the activation time.

AB - Producing green and efficient energy sources is a major challenge. As a consequence, the use of photovoltaic devices for conversion of light into electricity is growing worldwide. A lot of effort had been invested to create high-efficient solar cells, but their durability, stability, flexibility and efficiency at low light intensities are still unexplored. Here, we built a flexible solar cell made of p-doped, amorphized a-undoped and n-doped Sb2S3 solid carrier loaded with electrolyte. Indium tin oxide glass was the working electrode, and aluminium was the counter electrode. Every (p–a–n) flexible Sb2S3/solid carrier layers were obtained using a cheap casting/solvent evaporation technique, from a blend consisted of chitosan, polyethylene glycol and electrolyte containing 0.5 M potassium iodide and 0.05 M iodine, and corresponding synthesized amorphized a-undoped and p and n-doped Sb2S3 semiconductor. Results show that flexible Sb2S3 solar cell possesses good stability and efficiency of about 10% at 5% sun. Overall, our findings demonstrate for the first time that flexible solar cell can be made and used for low light intensity applications. © 2018, Springer International Publishing AG, part of Springer Nature.

AB - Rod-like and flake-like up-converting Y2O3:Yb3+/Ho3+ particles which are composed of nanoparticles with size less than 100 nm, are prepared by a simple hydrothermal processing at 473 K (3 h) followed by additional thermal treatment at 1373 K (3 and 12 h). The effect of precursor pH value on the formation of Y2O3:Yb3+/Ho3+ is followed through X-ray powder diffractometry (XRPD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). Structural refinement confirms formation of the cubic bixbyte structure (S.G. Ia-3) with the non-uniform accommodation of dopants at C2 and S6 cationic sites. Under 978 nm laser excitation, strong green (530–570 nm) up-conversion is observed in all samples. The emission shows a decrease in intensity with an increase in external temperature, indicating FIR (fluorescence intensity ratio) based temperature sensing behavior of 0.52% for the 5F4 → 5I8/5S2 → 5I8 transitions.

AB - Sub-micronic, spherical Y2O3:Yb/Er particles comprising clustered nano-units (70 nm) were prepared via ultrasonic spray pyrolysis from pure nitrate precursor solutions with different Yb/Er dopant ratios. The particles were additionally thermally treated at 1100 °C for 12, 24 and 48 h. The structural and morphological characteristics of particles were studied by X-ray powder diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, field-emission scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray analysis and specific surface area (BET) and were further correlated with their advanced optical properties. For the recorded up-conversion emissions, originating from the following Er3+ transitions: [2H9/2→4I15/2] in blue (407–420 nm); [2H11/2, 4S3/2→4I15/2] green: 510–590 nm; and [4F9/2→4I15/2] in red (640–720 nm) spectral region, the corresponding lifetimes were acquired in the wide temperature range (10–300 K). The most intense green up-conversion emission with the long decay of 550 ms is recorded for Y1.97Yb0.02Er0.01O3 particles thermally treated at 1100 °C for 24 h.

AB - The opportunities of the hot wall aerosol synthesis, i.e. conventional spray pyrolysis (CSP) method are demonstrated for the generation of highly spherical three-dimensional (3D) nanostructured phosphor particles with uniformly distributed components, phases and nano-clustered inner structure. With the presumption that certain particle morphology is formed during the evaporation/drying stage, the aerosol transport properties and powder generation are correlated with the particles structural and morphological features. With the help of various analyzing techniques like Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FE-SEM), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) coupled with energy dispersive X-ray Analysis and STEM mode (TEM/EDS), X-ray Powder Diffraction (XRPD) and fluorescence measurements the feasible processing of up-conversion rare-earth Y2O3:Er, Yb phosphors powders are discussed.

abstract = "The opportunities of the hot wall aerosol synthesis, i.e. conventional spray pyrolysis (CSP) method are demonstrated for the generation of highly spherical three-dimensional (3D) nanostructured phosphor particles with uniformly distributed components, phases and nano-clustered inner structure. With the presumption that certain particle morphology is formed during the evaporation/drying stage, the aerosol transport properties and powder generation are correlated with the particles structural and morphological features. With the help of various analyzing techniques like Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FE-SEM), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) coupled with energy dispersive X-ray Analysis and STEM mode (TEM/EDS), X-ray Powder Diffraction (XRPD) and fluorescence measurements the feasible processing of up-conversion rare-earth Y2O3:Er, Yb phosphors powders are discussed.",

AB - Nanocrystalline up-converting Y₂ O₃Yb³⁺ Er³⁺ phosphor particles were processed in a dispersed system-aerosol, generated ultrasonically at 1.3 MHz from common nitrate precursor solution having fixed ytterbium-to-erbium concentration ratio. The appropriate process parameters: residence time 21 s, carrier gas (air) flow rate 1.6 dm3/min, synthesis temperature 900 °C, led to the formation of un-agglomerated spherical nanostructured secondary particles, having mean particle size of approx 450 nm, composed of primary nanoscaled (20 nm) subunits. In order to reach targeting phase crystallinity, the as-prepared particles were additionally annealed at 1100 °C in air for 12, 24 and 48 h, respectively. Particle structure, morphology and purity were analyzed by X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD), scanning electron microscopy (FESEM/SEM), analytical and high resolution transmission electron microscopy (TEM/HRTEM) in combination with energy dispersive X-ray analysis and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). All samples crystallized in a cubic bixbyte-structure, space group Ia-3. The crystallite size changed with annealing time from 30 nm in as-prepared sample to 135 nm in sample annealed for 48 h, respectively. Emission spectra were assigned to the following trivalent erbium f–f electronic transitions: ²H₉/₂ → ⁴I₁₅/₂ (blue: 407–420 nm), (²H₁₁/₂̦ ⁴S₃/₂) → ⁴I₁₅/₂ (green: 510–590 nm), and ⁴F₉/₂ → ⁴I₁₅/₂ (red: 640–720 nm). The significant improvement of the emission decay times were observed after thermal treatment and this effect is correlated further with the structural and morphological particles characteristics. For the anneal-ing time of 12 h a quite high emission decay times were achieved (blue: 0.14 ms, green: 0.32 ms and red: 0.39 ms).

AB - Up-converting yttrium oxide powders doped with Yb3+ and co-doped with Ho3+ were
synthesized through hydrothermal processing at 200 °C/3 h. Reverse precipitation of the starting nitrates mixture is performed with the help of ammonium hydrogen carbonate (AHC) solution up to pH 7 or pH 9 prior to hydrothermal treatment. Morphological features of the as-prepared (asp)powders and rare earth oxides obtained after powders additional annealing at 1100 oC (3 and 12 h)are discussed based on X-ray powder diffractometry (XRPD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). Structural refinement confirmed generation of the cubic bixbyte-structure (S.G. Ia-3) with non-uniform accomodation of dopants at C2 and S6 cationic sites. SEM revealed that the particles have plate-like or rod-like morphology in dependence of hydrothermal processing (pH). Due to the fact that are composed from nanograins (30-100 nm) they demonstrate prominent green luminescence centered at 550 nm after been excited with the infrared laser source (λ=978 nm).

AB - Thermographic phosphors are oxides doped With rare-earth or transition metal ions that will emit visible, Infrared, or UV light upon excitation from an external energy source This materials have received significant attention due to the potential application as optical temperature sensor In this report, we have investigated yttrium oxide co-doped with changeable ytterbium to erbium ratio (Y1.94YbO.05Er001 and Y1 97YbO 02ErO 01) fabricated through hydrothermal synthesis Process conditions (2h, 200 'C) and additional thermal treatment (3h, 1100 'C) allows obtaining nanoparticles of appropriate composition and morphology which further affect on improved photoluminescent characteristics. The fluorescence Intensity ratio (FIR) technique is used to examine potential usage of samples as low temperature sensors. This optical method is based on ratio between two emission lines or areas In photoluminescence spectrum which show temperature dependence. Photoluminescent measurements (PL) are recorded In the temperature range from 10K to 300 K under 978 nm exciting
wavelength Observing changes In following transitions blue 2H912~4115/2, green (2H1112, 4S3/2) ~ 411512 and red 4F912~4115/2 Obtained experimental results imply that the fluorescent intensity ratio of the blue, green and red lines

AB - Recently, trivalent rare earth doped materials have received significant attention due to the strong temperature dependence of the fluorescence emission of these materials, which can be useful in temperature sensing. Here, we investigated Y2O3 ceramic powders doped with Yb3+ and co-doped with either Tm3+ or Ho3+. The powders were obtained via spray pyrolysis at 900 °C and additionally thermally treated at 1100 °C for 24 h. Structural characterization using X-ray powder diffraction confirmed the cubic bixbyte structure. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) revealed that the particles exhibit a uniform spherical morphology. The up-conversion emissions were measured using laser excitation at 978 nm, resulting in the following transitions: blue emission in the range of 450–500 nm, weak red emission in the range of 650–680 nm and near infrared emission in the range of 765–840 nm for Tm3+, as well as green emission centered at 550 nm and weak near infrared emission at 755 nm for the Ho3+ ions. In addition, the temperature dependence of the fluorescence intensity ratios of different Stark components was analyzed in the range of 10–300 K. Significant temperature sensitivity was detected for several components, with the largest value of 0.097 K−1 related to the intensity ratio of I536 and I772 emissions observed for the Y2O3:Yb,Ho powder.

abstract = "Recently, trivalent rare earth doped materials have received significant attention due to the strong temperature dependence of the fluorescence emission of these materials, which can be useful in temperature sensing. Significant temperature sensitivity was detected for several components, with the largest value of 0.097 K−1 related to the intensity ratio of I536 and I772 emissions observed for the Y2O3:Yb,Ho powder.",

AB - Nanocrystalline up-converting Y2O3:Yb3+, Er3+ phosphor particles were processed in a dispersed system-aerosol, generated ultrasonically at 1.3 MHz from common nitrate precursor solution having fixed ytterbium-to-erbium concentration ratio. Emission spectra were assigned to the following trivalent erbium f–f electronic transitions: 2H9/2 → 4I15/2 (blue: 407–420 nm), (2H11/2, 4S3/2) → 4I15/2 (green: 510–590 nm), and 4F9/2 → 4I15/2 (red: 640–720 nm). The significant improvement of the emission decay times were observed after thermal treatment and this effect is correlated further with the structural and morphological particles characteristics. For the annealing time of 12 h a quite high emission decay times were achieved (blue: 0.14 ms, green: 0.32 ms and red: 0.39 ms).
