abstract = "У раду се анализира семантика три блискозначне лексеме у старословенском: чоудо, дивЪ и диво. Показује се да се у случају речи чоудо ради о транспозицији термина из дохришћанског у хришћански терминолошки систем, уз контекстуално семантичко прилагођавање праћено губљењем изворне значењске амбиваленције. Насупрот томе, дивЪ нема терминолошки статус и чува прасловенско значење, док је диво потврђено само једанпут, као књишки неологизам., This paper analyzes three semantically closely related Old Church Slavonic words:
čudo, divъ and divo, sometimes presented as synonymous. It is shown that čudo
obtained terminological status in Old Church Slavonic by the transposition of the
Common Slavic *čudo ‘something that is beyond ordinary, miracle, wonder, omen’
into the Christian terminological system: ‘miracle’. In this process the word lost its
original semantic ambivalence (good/bad), while being semantically adapted to
the new religious system. The fact that čudo was used to translate different Greek
words, i.e. the contextual meanings of partially synonymous Greek words, shows
that we are dealing with a terminological transposition. Exceptionally rarely and
only in specific non-sacral contexts it exhibits the vernacular meaning ‘wonder’.
On the other hand, divъ did not have terminological status. It retained its Common
Slavic semantics ‘astonishment, amazement’, and further, depending on the context,
‘horror’, ‘admiration’. The lexeme divo ‘miracle’ was a bookish neologism, attested
only once in the corpus. This is corroborated by the fact that it was not characteristic
for South Slavic vernaculars.",
