AB - Beside a short account on the summation/integration methods for slowly
convergent series (Laplace transform method for numerical and trigonometric series and the
method of contour integration over a rectangle), a method based on a new transformation of
the series to a weighted integral, with respect to the weight function
over R+, is presented. Such a method is applied to calculation of the values of the Riemann
zeta function. Several numerical examples are included.

AB - In order to improve the interpretation of measurement results and to achieve the optimal performance of microfluidic biosensors, advanced mathematical models of their time response and noise are needed. The random nature of adsorption–desorption and mass transfer (MT) processes that generate the sensor response makes the sensor output signal inherently stochastic and necessitates the use of a stochastic approach in sensor response analysis. We present a stochastic model of the sensor time response, which takes into account the coupling of adsorption–desorption and MT processes. It is used for the analysis of response kinetics and ultimate noise performance of protein biosensors. We show that slow MT not only decelerates the response kinetics, but also increases the noise and decreases the sensor’s maximal achievable signal-to-noise ratio, thus degrading the ultimate sensor performance, including the minimal detectable/quantifiable analyte concentration. The results illustrate the significance of the presented model for the correct interpretation of measurement data, for the estimation of sensors’ noise performance metrics important for reliable analyte detection/quantification, as well as for sensor optimization in terms of the lower detection/quantification limit. They are also incentives for the further investigation of the MT influence in nanoscale sensors, as a possible cause of false-negative results in analyte detection experiments.

zeros and the extremal coefficients of the polynomial. The obtained results sharpen as well as
generalize the Erdo˝s-Lax inequality and its extension by Aziz and Dawood and other related

An efficient computation of parameters in the Rys quadrature formula

PY - 2018

AB - We present an efficient procedure for constructing the so-called Gauss-Rys
quadrature formulas and the corresponding polynomials orthogonal on (−1, 1) with respect
to the even weight function w(t; x) = exp(−xt2), where x a positive parameter. Such GaussRys quadrature formulas were investigated earlier e.g. by M. Dupuis, J. Rys, H.F. King [J.
Chem. Phys. 65 (1976), 111 − 116; J. Comput. Chem. 4 (1983), 154 − 157], D.W. Schwenke
[Comput. Phys. Comm. 185 (2014), 762 − 763], and B.D. Shizgal [Comput. Theor. Chem.
1074 (2015), 178 − 184], and were used to evaluate electron repulsion integrals in quantum chemistry computer codes. The approach in this paper is based to a transformation of
quadratures on (−1, 1) with N nodes to ones on (0, 1) with only [(N + 1)/2] nodes and their
construction. The method of modified moments is used for getting recurrence coefficients.
Numerical experiments are included.
