abstract = "Овај рад представља резултате синтаксичко-семантички усмереног дијалектолошког истраживања српског језика, а формално-синтаксички ограниченог на падежне моделе детерминативног типа забележене у романијском говору Старог Влаха, односно у говору романијског
платоа, који сврставамо у српске говоре с конзервативном структуром
падежног система., The book offers a description of how case systems operate in the determinative
function. The dialectal corpus used is that of the Romanija plateau
idiom, which was extracted from a spontaneous fl ow of a long uninterrupted
speech of the informants. The choice of topic has been infl uenced by the fact
that the syntax of the Serbian vernacular dialects has been the least extensively
researched fi eld, producing few book-length studies.
The geographic area explored in this study is bordered by the mountain
Romanija and its ridges, the river Kaljina and mountain Javor, the region
of Borika and Tetima with Rogatica in the east, and the area north of the
river Prača in the south. The vernacular explored in the thesis belongs to the
Herzegovina-Krajina dialect, or to be more precise, to the section of a transitional
subdialect which displays more pronounced phonetic and morphological
traits of the south-eastern subdialect. The comparison of the linguistic
situation in the Romanija plateau area with the situation in neighbouring
idioms and a wider dialect environment will be elucidated in this thesis from
the aspect of the syntax of cases to the degree allowed by the available dialectological
literature.
In order to form determinative case systems, the starting point is the semantics
of case constructions, observing the mutual complementary and / or
competitive relationship of case units within the semantic structure of a particular
category. This approach is based on the theoretically well-developed
structure of majority of semantic categories, which is most frequently applied
to the corpus of the standardised language, but also on both dialect and historical
language corpora. The choice of case constructions for the syntactic
expression of the observed semantic categories is justifi ed by the fact that
case units are the most developed linguistic means of expressing spatiality ,
which is the only semantic category grounded in sensory cognition characterising
this vernacular variety.
The book pays special attention to the metaphorisation of space or the
use of linguistic signs with the primary spatial meaning, as the source domain
which is grounded in sensory perception, and their function of indicating
those relationships which are of non-spatial, abstract nature and have the role of the target domain. The metaphorisation of space was the guiding principle
in the determination of semantic fi elds which will be inspected in the thesis.
That is why the fi rst chapter deals with the source domain – spatial semantic
fi eld, as prototype of semantic localisations, and its semantic structure
which is determined by two key semantic parameters– dynamic and positional
parameters of spatial relations.
Subsequent chapters deal with target domains – abstract semantic
fi elds: temporality, qualifi cability (including instrumentality, qualifi cability
in a narrower sense, concomitancy, the criterion / basis of the qualifi cative
type, comparability and quantifi ability), intentionality, causality, conditionality
and concessionality.
The end of each chapter offers an analysis of the status of proto-locative
case model features as they are transposed into the spheres of abstract semantic
relations in which those features assume new expression – the one
which corresponds to the source or is modifi ed to a certain degree but also
neutralised.",
