This paper deals with the issue of morphological adaptation of foreign anthroponymic
units denoting male individuals. The aim of the paper is to determine the degree to which foreign
anthroponyms are embedded in Serbian noun declination based on journalistic discourse.
The conducted research shows that the process of assimilating foreign nouns to the grammatical
structure of Serbian language is rather slow and unbalanced. That is substantiated by numerous
examples of inconsistent and hesitant use of foreign anthroponyms and by examples which are
not in accordance with the normative rules related to this issue. Namely, various phenomena
regarding the usage and the adaptation of foreign lexical material have been noted in the registry
of newspaper articles, such as: 1) the tendency to not change a foreign first name of a male
in combination with the last name, 2) the deviation from the rule of inserting the intervocalic
-j- in dependent cases and 3) hesitant interpretation of t...he final vowel as a part of the basis or as
a suffix.
