A Failed "Leader" and the Serbian Conservative Core: Milan Stojadinović and the Short-Lived Serbian Radical Party
Abstract
Probably the least known period in the life and political career of Milan Stojadinović spans from his fall from power to the moment when the Yugoslav government handed him over to the British in Greece in March 1941. This period was marked by his opposition to the Cvetković–Maček Agreement, which in time evolved into an organized political action through the founding of the Serbian Radical Party (SRS), which has so far attracted very little attention in historical
scholarship.1 This paper attempts to shed light on the emergence of SRS, its short-lived activism and Stojadinović’s fate as its central figure, which reflected the fate of the party he had founded.
