dc.description.abstract	On the basis of fieldwork recordings made in several Bayash communities from Serbia, Croatia and Bulgaria, the author explores the way in which the interlocutors assume an identity and try to construct a past for their people, using etiological legends about the origin of their community which combine old and new historical information.	sr
