Друштвено-историјске околности калушарског плеса у Гребенцу

Abstract

Caluș dance is an element of the ICH Representative List of UNESCO inscribed by Romania in 2008. The same dance has also been performed in the territory of Bulgaria and Serbia by minority communities (Vlachs in Bulgaria, Romanians in Serbian Banat). Historically and semantically different traditions of practicing the Caluș ritual in various national and social contexts also conditioned the diversity of its structuralactional shaping. This paper deals with one geographical and cultural variants of the Caluș dance through the diachronic prism of its performance in the village of Grebenac (Southern Banat, Serbia). The context of the historical-cultural-social dimension of the Grebenac Caluș dance is analyzed since the beginning of its practice at the end of 19th century until nowadays. The available historical data shed light to the cultural-socialpolitical circumstances of the Caluș performance, and current fi eldwork data showed its maintenance in spite of the harsh COVID-19 restrictions.
