Digitizing Serbian Folklore: What has Been Done and What is to Be Done

Abstract

Овај рад најпре даје кратак преглед главних и најпознатијих јужнословенских дигиталних фолклорних и етнографских база података, библиотека, архива и репозиторија. Његов главни део је усмерен на Србију. Пре свега, описујемо специјализоване фолклорне базе и издања које су осмислиле фолклористкиње Мирјана Детелић, Снежана Самарџија и Лидија Делић, и инжењер Бранислав Томић, за које смо уверени, да могу послужити као узор и ван граница Србије. Затим представљамо дигитализацију фолклорних и етнографских студија које спроводе матичне државне библиотеке, научне, образовне и културне установе, регионалне библиотеке и музеји. Нудимо и кратак опис најважнијих волонтерских иницијатива у дигитализацији фолклора, и дајемо информације о дигитализацији јужнословенског фолклора која се одвија ван региона. На крају, изнели смо неке предлоге шта треба да се уради на дигитализацији српског фолклора.

This paper first provides a brief overview of the main and best-known South Slavic digital folklore and ethnographic databases, libraries, archives and repositories. Its main part is focused on Serbia. First of all, we describe the specialised folklore databases and editions designed by the folklore scholars Mirjana Detelić, Snežana Samardžija, Lidija Delić, together with an engineer Branislav Tomić, which we are confident, can serve as a model beyond Serbia. Then, we present the digitisation of folklore and ethnographic studies carried out by the main state libraries, scientific, educational and cultural institutions, and regional libraries and museums. We also offer a brief description of the most important volunteer initiatives in folklore digitisation, and provide information on the digitisation of South Slavic folklore which is taking place outside the region. Finally, we put forward some suggestions as to what needs to be done in the digitisation of Serbian folklore.
